Disney movies/yard sale ???

I have ALOT of Disney movies that I don't need and plan to sell at the flea market or yard sale . They are in perfect condition ( only reason I don't need them is because they are stepson duplicates - since we are all together now - we don't need two of each movie) My question is - how much should I sell them for ? New they would be $20-$24 , my sister who goes "saleing" frequently says I won't get more than $5 from them - I feel I should get $10 . What is the going rate these days ? (These are the good movies too)

How many days will you have the yard sale? if it is two days I would start out with $10 then lower them the next day. Personally I think $10 might be a little high. I think cheap when I go to yard sales. If you are at a flea market you may get a wee bit more, not sure why I think that. Guess because so many vendors at flea markets are just that. this is more of a business than the yard sale person. I think I would spend about $7 of Disney tapes. But any other tapes, $3.

Why don't you try listing them in the Bargain Column of your local newspaper? This is free in our paper and I think you could get $10 each pretty easily. Or you might try e-bay.

Check ebay and see how much they have been going for there. That should give you an idea of what you can get at a garage sale.

Another thought - donate them. You can write them off for their $20 value and a children's hospital or many other childrens' agencies would love to have them.

I've given old movies to my children's schools and they are also very happy to get them.

I think if they are in good condition (Box as well) ask $8.00.......although you may not get that. I sold videos at my sale for $1.00-3.00 (Barney, Seasame St, etc) they wouldn't go higher than that.
If you have a second time around place near by, try that....or e-bay, some Disney videos go pretty well depending on the title.

You could also try selling the videos at Half.com. I have had a lot of luck getting rid of uwanted videos and DVDs here. They suggest a price to you depending on the condition of your item but you can name any price. If you need help with it---feel free to e-mail me.

My kids sold a lot of their movies this summer to get spending money for WDW (no disney but many Blues Clues etc.) and we got about $5-6 for the name brand videos.

Around here, you would be lucky to get $5 out of them. I would try Ebay though, I have seen alot of the older Disney Videos (Beauty & The Beast, Lion King) go for pretty good money-coudn't hurt to look!

Ive bought at least 20 Disney videos off of EBay in the past few months. Unless they are in the plastic hard covers I dont pay more than 9.00. If they are in just a slip jacket I pay usually between 3-6.00.

My wife and I are huge g-sale fans. Keep in mind that garage sale folks like us are looking to spend around 10% on the dollar. We usually take the risk that the tape or whatever merchandise is working or not. I've been outright lied to about the working condition of items (juicer, coffee pot and pool float - all broken) yet was told that they work great. Not worth my time to go back for the $5 paid for the item.

I saw a bunch of disney tapes for sale last week for $10 each. It was about 11:00 in the morning re: Quiting time for garage sale'rs. Needless to say the person made no money on the tapes. I asked her if the would think of lowering the price if I bought several and their response was that they had paid $20 new for them.

I can get half off bargains at the local Wal-Mart for new stuff. I too walked away.

Hello-

I too was looking to get rid of my Disney tapes. I know own a dvd player and prefer that format. I've noteiced that as the movies get re-released (like Snow White for example). I could buy a new tape for $15.00 so as a purchaser there is no way I would spend $10.00.

I also agree that people going to garage sales are looking for a "great deal" and not likely to spend more than that. I was able to sell a few of them off of Half.com. by the time I bought packing materials and sent them off, I probably only made about $7.00 per tape.

Do you have any other family members that you could just give them to (becuase you're so nice?) I like the suggestion of donating to various children's hospitals etc. Our church hosts homeless families that stay here for a week every 10 weeks or so. They think it's great when we have Disney movies for them to watch (that I have donated).

Good for you for donateing the tapes, but be advised that you can not write off $20.00 per tape just because you paid that much. You may only write off the fair market value of the tapes when they are donated, which is no higher than $10.00 by your own estimate.
