We are going 1/3 - 1/8. I just found out that the Disney Marathon weekend starts 1/6 - 1/9. I'm freaking out a bit as we picked our dates specifically to avoid crowds. Someone who's been during that weekend please tell me how busy does it get?

Try not to freak out too much. We were there one year during marathon weekend and while the restaurants were quite busy the night before we really didn't notice that much of an increase in crowds at the parks.

Many of the marathoners come just for the weekend and are up in the middle of the night to run the marathon early in the morning. There is also a limited amount of people that can sign up for the runs. I know it is in the couple of 1,000 amount but when you think about how many thousands of people are in one park in any given day you won't see a drastic increase especially since many of those people will be more than happy to return to their rooms after the runs and relax.

The parks are not that bad. Traffic getting to the parks can be tricky depending on what park and what time. I think the cut off is about 22000 for the full marathon, They start and finish in the EPCOT parking lot. I would not worry to much.

We've been down for the marathon the last 2 years, and besides the traffic, mainly on Sunday, it's not too bad. I had the kids while my husband, sister and brother i law ran, and we walked onto everything! Traffic on Sunday can be scary - depends on where you are staying and which park you want to get to. If I remember correctly, to get to Epcot, and the MK, we had to go through the TTC.

Don't worry about crowds. Yes, there are tons of people in the resorts, but when it comes to the parks they are all either running in the marathon or watching their family members run it. I've been there as a guest and a runner multiple times, and I've never has a crowd problem. And definitely get to the parks early that weekend, cause they're so empty due to all the people at the races! I totally agree with the above post; allow tons of time to get to your destination on Sunday (marathon day), as all traffic flows through the TTC, it's nuts out there.

Don't sweat it ... HAHAHA - I have been there for the Marathon the pst two years,,, and although the morning of SAT and Sun will be challenging getting around,,,,the crowds in the parks are very manageable,,,, you should not have a problem,,, Rememer to get a lunch and dinner Reservation for Sunday ,,, ALL us runners will be looking to EAT !! after the RACE !! Enjoy !Mark

As a runner multiple times, your only issue should be traffic, especially getting to MK in the morning.

enjoy,
