Has anyone ever done this? I am debating on making this my big goal with my weight loss. BUt I've never run a race of any sort (I plan on doing a couple this year here around home) I'm not a runner of any sort either, so I'm really nervous and clueless lol.

Can someone dumb down the Disney one? Also when you register do you pay then? If so how much? They have registering starting Jan 14th for 2009 so I really need to figure this out.

Any information will be appreciated.

I just read about the Minnie Marathon which may actually be more my speed..lol But I also heard that it may be changing for 2009.. I think a trip to Disney solo, or maybe just me and my husband is huge incentive for me to do lose the weight lol.

I miss our trips, just the 2 of us. I love my kids but touring with children is way differnt than with just the two of us...

charity -- i'm going to move this to our sub-forum-- Events and Competition where all the chatter happens for organized Disney and non-Disney events

we have LOTS of WISHers who have completed Disney events so i'm sure you'll get lots of great info. i have done the 1/2 twice and it's an experience I treasure...and i would beg to differ that you are dumb! anyone focusing on getting healthy seems quite smart to me. but if you are referring to non-commpetitive athletes....yes there are plenty on the course!

WELCOME CHARITY!!

I can say I said the same thing!! I joined Utahmama's thread "DISappearing Peeps" and someone thought doing the 5K in DISNEY would be a great motivation - dh thought I should aim for the Half Marathon - so I did - and I'm going to my first ever Half Marathon!!

I started on the WISH thread's Couch to 5K running program which is totally doable!!

Unfortunately I've had several setbacks in my training, but I am more determined than ever -- I know I will finish next Saturday (and the thought makes me queezy!) but the support here is beyond amazing - and so appreciative!!

So go for it!!

Come hang on the weekly traning thread. We will get you to the 2009 half, provided you are willing to do the work. You will have an amazing ride too!

This year, things sold out pretty quickly, but we always post teh percentage full on the threads so that you know when you need to sign on teh dotted line. Yes, wyou will need to pay then. Around $90, I think. It will be posted on the 14th.

BTW, we are ailttle crazy at the training thread right now, as we are 8 adn 9 days out adn this is peak of taper madness (which we can teach you about and nerves). Be sure to check teh race repost when we get back, though. You wll eb amazed adn, hopefully, inspired!

The 1/2 filled on 6/1 and the marathon filled on 8/23 for 08. You have plenty of time to decide. If you lurk around, we will let you know where the % filled is.

You have plenty of time to start slowly trining by working on your base mileage over the next 6 months.

Good luck in 09:)

It is wonderful that you will be doing this event! You definitely CAN do this and since you are starting now you will have a fantastic base on which to train when we get to the more serious part.

Right now, stop by the weekly thread and introduce yourself. Get to know us as we do the same with you and have all the fun as the year progresses!

You do not need to be a runner to do this event! You do need to train through the year to achieve a 16 minute per mile pace and if you can get it down a bit so much the better.

My plan is to do the full marathon in 2010. I've just started to plan and will start actually running this summer or fall. (I want to do the marathon in 2010 because I will be 40 then) I'm only planning to ever do one full marathon in my life, so I can say I've done it, but who knows what will happen when I actually do it.

Hi CharityLynn!!!!

Welcome!!! Which side of the state are you on? Susan, Cathy and I are on the East side of MI. Let us know which races you are looking at and perhaps we'll catch sight of each other this year :) The only race locally I have planned and don't even know the date is the Hanson 5K in Utica. There are a couple of other Michigan folks on the group but I think we're a bit spread out which is a bummer.

BTW I still have yet to get to Kensington to walk/crawl/whatever! But I do get close when I do the Milford 10K over Labor Day which is probably another possible this year. I like seeing progress over the same courses ;)

Welcome and can't wait to hear of your adventure to the Disney Marathon! It's a wild ride :thumbsup2 but in a totally good way!!!!!! LOL

My DH lost 180 lbs two years ago. As a payoff, he treated himself to his 1st race last year....the Disney 1/2 marathon. He liked it this much that this weekend he is running the Goofy (his 1st marathon). This weekend will also be the 1st no kids Disney trip for us. :cheer2:

If you put your heart into it it is totally doable:banana: Good luck:thumbsup2

I live in Battle Creek so its sort of SouthWest..South Central? lol

We are in the Sterling Heights area more outside of Detroit.

But we do find ourselves going farther afield to do most of our races. There was a joke in 2007 that none of our races were IN the state. And actually only 1 was which was the Milford 10k LOL

Last year we drove down and spent 1 night in Cincinnati to do the Flying Pig 10K (and for me the 5K) and did the same for the John Bingham Flying Feather on Thanksgiving. So perhaps we'll still cross paths at something more local :thumbsup2

Happy training!!!!

Have you ever tried the CRIM festival of races in Flint usually the end of August.
Also, new for 2008 is the Brooksie Way 1/2 marathon and 5K on Oct 5th.

I drove by there last summer to drop my dd off at a camp in Paw Paw Michigan!! (my parents live in northeast IN on the border of Michigan!!)

Its a small world!!

Keep posting - stay strong and determined!!

Hi Tiggerfreak!!!

We haven't done the CRIM to date susan and I have avoided it with thoughts that its typically so hot and we're sooo slow LOL

I had not heard of the Brooksie Way race though, the CRIM site looks like it's being remodeled so I will have to remember to check back after we all get home from WDW

Thanks for bringing it up! :thumbsup2
