Wife, son and I along with another couple and their daughter are signed up for the Disney Magic, 10 night Norwegian Fjord and Iceland next year.
If you have any tips and not to be missed ideas to pass along that would be greatly appreciated!

Only 480 days, 16 hours, 09 minutes to go
Unfortunately your cruise doesn't go to my favorite Norwegian port, Geiranger. That was the most beautiful spot ever and the cruise through the fjord to get there was breathtaking!
The two ports the cruise I did and the one you are doing have in common are Stavanger and Alesund. Both ports are super walkable from the ship and easy to explore by foot. What you want to do there totally depends on your interests. In Stavanger we did "Time Travel through the Fjord". If you like history and being out on the water for sightseeing, it's a great excursion. I learned a ton and it was absolutely beautiful! My 5yo loved it as well. We did the earliest one, so in the afternoon my dd stayed in the club and I went out and walked all around Stavanger, exploring shops and sights. There is a beautiful lake/pond up in the middle of the downtown area and the views down the hill from the town are gorgeous. If you walk out of the main cruise area, you get more into smaller shops the locals shop at and stuff. I explored a bookstore, yarn store, candy store, etc. A lot of people in my cruise meet did a boat in Lysenfjord and loved it at this port as well. They coordinated and booked a boat privately due to the cost of the
DCL excursion.
In Alesund we did the Anna and Elsa excursion at Sunmore. After all, my daughter was 5 (nearely 6). They do offer an excursion to Sunmore in the morning without the frozen tie in that is more pocketbook friendly. It's a wonderful open-air architectural type museum. The thing I loved about the excursion we did was that we learned a ton about Norwegian culture. They had local volunteers there running all sorts of things, like making Lefse, printmaking, games, etc. It was a great cultural experience. I don't know how much of that is available without the super expensive Anna and Elsa part.

My MIL who was on the cruise with us did an excursion where you go out to the lighthouse (island of Giske) and loved it. A lot of others on our cruise went up Mt. Askla (doable on your own easily). I highly recommend going up there - I did not get to, but I heard it was wonderful from everyone who went. If there is an option to head into the fjord around Alesund on the water, I would probably choose that as the fjords the further north you go are even more scenic!
I would recommend outdoor excursions as much as possible in Norway, the scenery is just fantastic and not to be missed. Also, look for the brown cheese (brunost) and try some. It's delicious! I drive 45 minutes from home to a little Scandinavian store to buy it here in the states!
