Anyone watch tonight's episide of The Amazing Race? They were up around Alesund, and in the background while the team was getting ready to sky dive was the Magic!

Yes, we watched it too. It was exciting to see them race around areas that we actually visited in 2015. Unfortunately, it was not the Magic anchored in Geiranger. That would have been very cool though.

Ah, in the quick glance in my tv it looked like it (red funnels). It was fun to see the places I had been on the magic, nevertheless. :)

That isn't the Disney Magic.

LOL, at first glance I thought it was, too!! Then I rewound the DVR and looked closer...:-) After watching that episode and seeing the "Magic", I really really want to take that Norwegian cruise!! Beautiful!

That's the Cunard Queen Elizabeth. Pretty similar with the dark hull and red funnel, but the Disney ships have two funnels, and there are some other more subtle differences.

My wife and I thought the same thing, too. Then we rewound the DVR to take a closer look and realized it wasn't the Magic. It didn't have 2 funnels, didn't have the duck tail, and didn't have enough lifeboats. We were excited for a minute, though.

It made me want to go again! Norway is breath taking!

Wife, son and I along with another couple and their daughter are signed up for the Disney Magic, 10 night Norwegian Fjord and Iceland next year.
If you have any tips and not to be missed ideas to pass along that would be greatly appreciated!

Love them being in Norway. I want to go back now.
We did a 3 1/2 week cruise with Princess a couple years ago.......Norway, Iceland, etc. It was wonderful.

We have been watching TARace for years. They often go somewhere we have been on a DCL cruise. The show was filmed near us (Portland, OR) a couple of years ago when the contestants zip-lined from the Bridge of the Gods to an island in the middle of the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington. We also saw the cruise ship on the last show, but knew (after 7 DCL cruises) it was not a Mouse ship. We will keep watching in case they catch one of the DCL vessels or a mouse land or world.

Unfortunately your cruise doesn't go to my favorite Norwegian port, Geiranger. That was the most beautiful spot ever and the cruise through the fjord to get there was breathtaking!

The two ports the cruise I did and the one you are doing have in common are Stavanger and Alesund. Both ports are super walkable from the ship and easy to explore by foot. What you want to do there totally depends on your interests. In Stavanger we did "Time Travel through the Fjord". If you like history and being out on the water for sightseeing, it's a great excursion. I learned a ton and it was absolutely beautiful! My 5yo loved it as well. We did the earliest one, so in the afternoon my dd stayed in the club and I went out and walked all around Stavanger, exploring shops and sights. There is a beautiful lake/pond up in the middle of the downtown area and the views down the hill from the town are gorgeous. If you walk out of the main cruise area, you get more into smaller shops the locals shop at and stuff. I explored a bookstore, yarn store, candy store, etc. A lot of people in my cruise meet did a boat in Lysenfjord and loved it at this port as well. They coordinated and booked a boat privately due to the cost of the DCL excursion.

In Alesund we did the Anna and Elsa excursion at Sunmore. After all, my daughter was 5 (nearely 6). They do offer an excursion to Sunmore in the morning without the frozen tie in that is more pocketbook friendly. It's a wonderful open-air architectural type museum. The thing I loved about the excursion we did was that we learned a ton about Norwegian culture. They had local volunteers there running all sorts of things, like making Lefse, printmaking, games, etc. It was a great cultural experience. I don't know how much of that is available without the super expensive Anna and Elsa part. ;) My MIL who was on the cruise with us did an excursion where you go out to the lighthouse (island of Giske) and loved it. A lot of others on our cruise went up Mt. Askla (doable on your own easily). I highly recommend going up there - I did not get to, but I heard it was wonderful from everyone who went. If there is an option to head into the fjord around Alesund on the water, I would probably choose that as the fjords the further north you go are even more scenic!

I would recommend outdoor excursions as much as possible in Norway, the scenery is just fantastic and not to be missed. Also, look for the brown cheese (brunost) and try some. It's delicious! I drive 45 minutes from home to a little Scandinavian store to buy it here in the states!

haha my husband said the same thing - look that looks like a Disney ship! I noticed only one funnel so knew it wasn't her but still cool that Disney follows the classic designs, glad to know we weren't the only one with DCL on the brain :)

and yes after watching that episode, had no idea Norway was so gorgeous, now I want to go!

We thought it was a Disney ship also and rewound the dvr to get a better look.... it wasn't the Magic. But, after seeing how beautiful that city was, we will be looking into that itinerary in the future.

We sailed on The Magic out of NYC and went to Canada when The Magic returned from Europe. Cannot give you suggestions on Adventures. My dh loved going to see all the movies while we sailed. We both agreed we should of exchanged to earlier dining, 8:30 was to late for us.

Don't know why but for my wife and I it just feels more special watching Disney movies on a Disney ship, especially for the movie opener. Last trip on the Dream we saw two movies that we missed here at our local theaters.

We too are use to eating early, had two cruises where we had late seating a seven night and a four night cruise. Never again; even on a cruise as short as four nights.
