Dear Ed,

Thank you for booking a Disney Cruise Line Vacation!
I would be happy to assist with your request.

Our ships have three distinct pool areas: Quiet Cove Pool for adults, the Goofy Pool for families, and the Mickey Pool for children.

The Mickey Pool is created in the shape of a Mickey Mouse silhouette, complete with a slide-supported by a familiar white gloved hand. The water is two feet deep. The Goofy Pool is four feet deep. Flotation devices will not be available at the pool, but guests can bring their own.

While our ships have the ability to use filtered sea water in our pools, we choose to use fresh water. Chlorine is used in the pools and bromine in the jacuzzis. The pools are filled on each embarkation day and heated when necessary.

As far as the pools not being kept up, I have sailed numerous times on our ships and have never experienced this. In fact, our crew is extremely fastidious in maintaining not only the pools but all areas of the ship.

I hope this information has been helpful. If you require further assistance in planning your visit, please feel free to contact us.

We look forward to sailing with you!
Have a Magical Day!
Wilma

I'm very concerned, I will be on the Magic Oct.4 and have read some discussion boards that are showing pics of pools that are green and of other issues that I see as totally unacceptable. I am hoping all of these problems will be addressed before our Oct 4 cruise. Thanks, Ed Yulkowski

I have a thought about the pools being dirty. If the ship recently left Norfolk VA and headed back to Port Carnaveral it must have been one heck of a trip. There is a nasty Low Pressure system off the East Coast that has been churning up the seas all week. I would guess I probably wasn't very safe to be working on the pool area during the trip back.

the ones that were causing the ship to vibrate so much that every time we pulled out of port on the EB PC I found myself looking at everyone around me wondering if we were going to make it home..

That wasn't the engines. It was the pre-teens running up and down the stairs and through the halls :lmao:

- The crew and officers have been EXCELLENT and provided the service we have all come to love at DCL. I did not ask for, nor was I offered, any compensation for my issues. They corrected the situation and that's all that any of us can ask for. Things will go wrong, however if they fix it, be happy and I am! (well stateroom wise).

That positive attitude legitimmizes your complaint in my mind. Nice way to approach it.

- The other issues about ship are what I have an issue with. The cruise was not 'discounted' because the ship would not be ready. For full fare, I expect a ship that is ready for us guests.

I can't say that I blame you. I agree for full pay, you should expect fulls service.

I am so concerned after reading all of these posts.
We are sailing on our first cruise in January and now I am rethinking my decision.
I expect top notch accomodations from Disney and most of all a comfortable bed.
I am hoping that I will read some good reviews before I have to make my final payment.

:scared:

I wouldn't be too worried. I sailed the 15 day repo just prior to dry dock and while the ship was definately in need of TLC, we had a great time and I heard no complaints about beds, etc.

I think the OP got a bad room on a bad sailing and DCL took care of him.

The pools are just playing catch up to the rest of the ship (I'm sure they weren't looked after in dry dock and just got green on way back).

The only response was that they just got out of dry dock and they are in progress of fixing it. Which they did.

I wanted to say something to everyone talking about maybe not sailing with Disney. This was not my intention with this thread and beginning to regret starting it. The reason I did was there were so many people wanting to know about the 'new' magic on the Magic. I have learned so much from these boards and wanted to return the favor.

Having said that, I HIGHLY recommend Disney Cruise Line. They, like all companies, will make mistakes. The amazing thing that Disney does best is when they do make a mistake, they fix it. They are working very hard to get the Magic to all her glory. I do disagree with their decision to set sail with the ship in its condition yesterday, but then again I am not a CEO of the cruise line and I am sure they have their reasons.

DCL is amazing. DCL crew are even more amazing. If you are worried about cruising on DCL, don't be... THEY ROCK. If you are considering a first cruise on Disney.. DO IT! They are amazing.

Kevin, thank you for all your postings. Once I read that you run hotels yourself I totally understood why you took pictures you did. As a fellow hotel person, we just notice things that most people wouldn't (it's in our blood :lmao: ).

Glad you got a new room...

I AGREE!!!! We love DCL! :thumbsup2

Ok...but the pools are really grossing me out (after 9 cruises w/ DCL)!

Just thought I'd post and let everyone know...

We checked our reservation online yesterday (we sail Saturday) and found our room # changed. Not upgraded, just changed to another room, same category (8, not a verandah room). This was mildly upsetting to us b/c we have/(had) adjoining rooms, now the new room is two doors down. Not a huge deal...but our TA said that the reason this was done was b/c our "old" room 6022 is "not ready" yet. She also said that "several" rooms were not yet ready.

Wonder what could make them "not ready" if all they are doing is replacing the TV's???

Anyhoo, glad to hear the pools are better. That was just nasty.

Thank you for the updates, Kevin. :thumbsup2

when we boarded the Magic for the 8/3 Mexican Riviera cruise, we stepped outside of Topsiders and noticed that the Mickey Pool was roped off and was green just like the OP's photos of the Goofy Pool. I asked one of the maintenance workers about it and he said the color was from whatever product they use to clean the pool. the water is then drained and fresh, CLEAN water is pumped in. after our lunch, we walked past it and it was sparkling and clear.

I agree it would be better to have this process done before guests arrive. But I would think that the Goofy pool was undergoing the same process and was not dirty and algae infested.

This scares me. We have not booked anything yet and will be cruising for the first time with our kids. I am NOT paying the kind of price tag that goes along with a DCL 7 day and having a shabby stateroom and gross pools.

We are still tossing around which cruise line to go with and I really want to choose DCL. But I also expect close to perfection for the price I am going to pay. I am sorry if that makes me sound snotty or high maintenance, I am not. For example we stayed at All Star Movies at WDW and even though it is classed a "Value", the entire place was spotless and in good repair. I expect at least that on a cruise ship.

Agreed!
And DCL tries to make things right for you should you have issues. They really do. Even to the extent of changing your room.
If you tell them they will work with you. They want you to be happy.
I am SURE they are learning from this 3 day cruise.

I agree!! Disney is a wonderful company! Things happen sometimes, it's what the company does when those things do happen. And they changed his room for him......not just to another cat 6 room, but he was moved to a cat 4 room! They fixed the problem with the goofy pool. From what I've read, these issues are not normal for a Disney cruise!
I know Disney, we live not far from DLR and we go often, and I know how well they take care of things!
I will be taking my first Disney cruise in a little more than 2 weeks, and I'm sure by then everything will be great!!

I wonder what made the Mickey pool brown then.

So how are the pools looking now??? I was really looking forward to enjoying some relaxing time at the adult pool with a adult beverage sitting on cushy lounger but I guess that dream is gone hu? just plastic straps still

I ask as I pack for our first Disney Cruise on Sat.

Hey Kevin - just had a chance to catch up on the post, and I have to say that you've handled this well. You can tell by the way you addressed the issue with DCL that you're a seasoned traveler, and I bet they appreciate your honesty as well as your level-headedness.

Congrats on the new room, and I'm really glad everything worked out for you so that you can fully enjoy your cruise now! :cool1: Thanks for the updates!
