disney magic? exactly how much do we expect?

I'll tell you what isn't magical is walking through the hallways of a deluxe in the afternoon to my room, passing 2 or 3 keepers that are speaking a foreign language, and not even getting a hello or smile from them. They're just having their own little conversation like nobody else is around. Not magical.

My expectations are about the same as the majority on this thread.

That said, I think Disney has themselves and their loyal customers (DISsers etc.) for the high expectations a lot of people have come to expect.

Have not read the whole thread... just wanted everyone on both sides of the towel animal issue to know that a towel swan is very prominently displayed on the cover of the Disney Resort Collection brochure.

I don't know if this brochure is in all WDW resort hotel rooms, but it is in DVC rooms. They are clearly marketing towel animals, and as a new/first time guest, I would be disappointed not to get one.

To add to that, they also use birthdays/other celebrations as marketing tools. They also promote the "magical" Disney experience and going above and beyond in terms of customer service (or at least they used to).

It's not hard to see why people are getting upset when their "celebrations" aren't acknowledged, especially since Disney had an entire ad campaign dedicated to it.

I will tell you what is funny. A foreigner talking with hands and feet to Mousekeeping because of his language.
O and the horror this also happens in the values were we low lives stay.

Just remember you are only one border line away from be called a XXXX.
The same can happen to you .

I will not spend weeks planning my every minute while at Disney
I will not hesitate to leave a park and go back to the hotel if my kids feel more like swimming than doing rides...

I don’t care if we spend all day in the pool as long as we are together. If I don’t use all the days on the tickets or don’t make it to all the restaurants we wanted to eat at, that’s ok.

People spend small fortunes for these vacations and expect Disney to reimburse them and then some in. People forget why they are there; it is vacation and it should be relaxing. I don’t want to come back to work MORE tired than when I left.

And don't forget the golden rule of all:
I will not put my overweight 10 yeard old kid in a stroller so he doesn't have a meltdown so we can get more done

Really this made your stay not magical. I think you expectations are out of whack. Try turning on the news and seeing true devastation. Not getting a hello for Mousekeeping is not even a blip on the radar of what is important in life.

Oh please, so because it is advertised, Disney should make it happen? They show a child walking across the bridge with just Mickey, holding hands, and no one else in sight, do I think that should happen for every child....ummm no. I have seen ads where Alice is spinning in the teacups with a couple of kids...does that happen for everyone or is it a NICE SURPRISE AKA MAGIC that Disney has happen. It is cool if it happens to you but you cant expect because of an ad!

Really it is a towel people, not gold pieces or even chocolate

If I choose to stay or buy into DVC it wouldn't be for the towel animals.

Rudeness and "accosting" are ugly and uncalled for.

But, considering what it costs to stay at a deluxe, I think it is reasonable to expect that a polite request to have towel animals would be honored.

Our kids were delighted by their first towel animals many years ago at Pop Century. They are now young adults. I speak to the front desk at arrival and ask if we could have them delivered once during our stay. It always starts a session family reminiscing about years of vacations at Disney.

The attitude "I flat out refuse to do towel animals for anybody!" reminds me that mousekeeping is a salaried position. I would keep my envelopes with the Disney pictures on the front and the cash inside to myself. Maybe she doesn't "owe" me a towel animal, but I don't "owe" her a tip.

We don't "expect" anything. IF we get a little magic, it's unexpected but appreciated!

Disney IS magic. We enjoy going there so much, and the things that stand out are the memories we make as a family.

People who expect stuff and then get disappointed when they don't get it deserve their disappointment.

Really!!! The things people freak out about on here make me wonder what they would do if something really serious happened to them. WE have been to Disney tons of time and only once did we have a mousekeeper who did towel animals and that was at POFQ. It was a nice touch and the kids enjoyed but do not expect every time and would never be heartbroken over something so trivial. Oh and best wished to your sister and her family.

I'm not going to call out anyone specifically but there is a lot of overblown expectation on this thread and on these boards.

I don't expect towel animals, free upgrades, people to congratulate me on anything, or any of the other occasional nice special things that the CMs do for guests. If I do get anything like that it is an unexpected added bonus, not something I was entitled to. I do expect a clean room, clean parks, decent food (Disney is not for "foodies"), and working attractions.

The entitlement on these boards (not just here but all over) is just plain ridiculous. There are people who claim their trip is ruined because they couldn't get into a certain restaurant, they didn't get a towel animal, no one congratulated them on their <what ever>, or a CM didn't stop what they were doing, sprinkle pixie dust one them, and let them know that they were the most specialist pretty princess of them all.

You are in Disney World, lighten up and enjoy it. You'd think someone being stuck at a Value was relegated to a tree hut in the Ivory Coast waiting to have their hands macheted off based on some of the threads I've seen here.

Thanks. I just don't get it either. If not getting a towel animal is upsetting to a children then the parents have alot more to worry about. Personally I didn't shelter my two sons to have a fit when they didn't receive a towel animal and the parents playing into this madness should be ashamed as well. It all goes with the entitlement issue that we have as Americans. Personally I think the parents make more of a big deal out of it then the kids. Life isn't fair.
