I was just chatting on another thread about towel animals. I have a friend who's daugher is a mousekeeper at one of the deluxes and she flatly refuses to do them anymore. 99% because of the guest.

At least once a week she is accosted with a demand for the towel animals. It's generally always accompanied with a threat (I'll have your job/report you to the manager) and she says some times it's accompanied iwht verbal abuse (fat ^&%tch, lazy, welfare queen). Luckily she documents all the cases and immediately reports it.

Anyway, some one else posted that when they wear a birthday button, they expect to have it acknowledge.

Both of these seem a little crass to me. So when you go to the world, how much do you expect the extra magic? and how are your vacations if you get exactly the basic (room, rides, restaurants, etc).

Does we expect more because of places like the dis, where you read story after story of room upgrades, towel animals and other perks?

We don't "expect" anything. IF we get a little magic, it's unexpected but appreciated!

Disney IS magic. We enjoy going there so much, and the things that stand out are the memories we make as a family.

People who expect stuff and then get disappointed when they don't get it deserve their disappointment. :teeth:

I agree!

My feelings exactly.

Nothing at all and look what mousekeeping left us only to day.

We respect our housekeeping lady as a human and tell her that AND don't live like pigs in our room.:lmao:

Ugh! I hate that entitlement mentality. What is wrong with these people? :sad2:

When I go to WDW, I expect to stay in a nice hotel, eat in nicely themed restaurants & have fun in excellent theme parks. And interact with wonderful, friendly cast members. And that's exactly what happens. DH & I are so happy to be there. We smile & talk nicely to the CMs. And we get smiles & friendly assistance in return.

We feel like we get a good value in what we paid for, or we wouldn't keep going back! :rotfl: If we get "only" exactly what we paid for, that's still great!

I really feel like if you treat CMs (& everyone, for that matter) with kindness & respect, you will get good things in return. And it's so much easier for the "magic" to find you, when you are putting out good vibes yourself.

I was thinking the same thing! :lmao:

What exactly is the thing with the beads? :confused3

I did expect good customer service. I was met with a front desk employee at check in who acted like she could have gave a crap, rude food court employees & a cranky old man that yelled at me for asking how a ride was loaded when he chained it off as we walked up. Granted there were some very nice employees also, but this is what stuck in my mind when I was embarrassed in front of my kids. Felt like a fool for forking out all of that money. Next time it will be offsite for us.

BTW, we had wonderful housekeeping while we were there. I never asked & told my youngest not to expect a towel animal, but we got a few anyways.

I bet they are staying at Port Orleans French Quarter. They pass the beads out there. But maybe I shouldn't put that on the DIS, or EVERYONE will go there and ask for their free beads :confused3 .

Nope Grand Floridian and we did not ask for anything. :rotfl:

to us, just being at wdw IS magic. we expect nothing, except decent customer service, and we find that 99.9% of disney employees go above and beyond that, so we always have a great trip. IF we get a towel animal, we're overjoyed. if not, we don't care. we tip well and pick up after ourselves, so the work for the mousekeepers while we're there is minimal.

My mom used to make her bed at WDW before she left the room - the mousekeeper was so cute, scolding my mom for doing "work on vacation, that's my job!" - my mom took a shine to her, and left her a huge tip. We try to keep things neat when we leave the room, because how can they clean the counters, etc, if our crap is everywhere?

I've found that by making it easy for the mousekeepers to clean our room, we tend (not always, of course!) to get quite a few surprises each trip. Once we even got a vase of flowers! Someone must have left them in a room at checkout, and the mousekeeper shared them with us. We have had towel animals, and we've had our stuffed animals placed in some really funny positions, including one on the toilet!

Of course we don't expect any of this, and we always write a personal note to thank the mousekeeper, and try to track down a supervisor to let them know we really like the service.

It looks like a hat to me.

We have gotten lots of towel animals. We never expect it and certainly never demand it. We just enjoy our vacation. Magic finds us all the time at WDW.

People make their own magic IMO. Places like Disney can provide the setting and so on but magic is in the eyes of the beholder and certainly can't be forced.

These people are pathetic.

To me "the magic" should be the people who work their know just what to say and do to make your day a little bit better

We don't have to ask for towel animals, we always get them...not that we even want them. WDW has always been very good to us, we have been upgraded at AKL EVERY time we have gone (6 times) to Savannah view when booking standard. At Beach Club, we were upgraded to a suite. I love WDW and their service.

We have never had towel animals but that's not a big deal to us. I'm thrilled that others get them and enjoy them so much but that's certainly not why we've gone to WDW so often.

Oh goodness, I hope my post did not imply that. I care nill about towel animals. My kids usually destroy them within the hour and it isn't something I even think about. I would much rather have EARLY maid service, and I'll be happy.:)
