Disney Magic - disgusting carpet

It's been almost 2 years since we sailed the Magic, but I will say that everything looked pristine at the time. They were even doing some painting of the Aqua Dunk while we were there. For an older ship, it was in fabulous shape. Looked clean & new in all the public areas & most of the private ones. The only visual flaw I remember on the entire ship was that our stateroom bathtub & shower curtain were obviously old. Everything else looked great. I can't believe they'd leave big stains on the atrium carpet. That atrium is the ship's inner showpiece.

For some reason, I can't view the OP's picture. It just gives me an error message. Even so, I'm going to bet that anyone who has sailed on DCL has witnessed a child spilling something on the carpet (the stairs seem have their share of accidents), only to walk through the area an hour later and find no sign what so ever of a stain. We've always joked that Disney must have a dedicated team of carpet cleaners that do nothing but patrol the ship cleaning up spills.

While I am usually a "see it with my own eyes before forming an opinion" kind of gal, I'm going to agree with everyone else that the carpet is not actually stained even though I can't actually see the picture. I'm that impressed with DCL's cleanliness and attention to detail.

And yes, that one picture with the vibrant colors has definitely been enhanced. The carpet is definitely not that color, nor are the walls Vegas gold.

When on the magic last year I witnessed a spilled drink in the atrium. Within two minutes a ma aged was onsite and the area was cordoned off while they waited for housekeeping. I neither heard nor saw anyone call for the manager. It was very quickly a d quietly taken care of. Disney is not going to invest millions of dollars on marketing and get dinged by dirty carpets.

happy to hear most people say it doesn't look bad in person !
While it doesn't "look bad" I'm not a fan of it. I get the whole "each deck is a different level of undersea life" concept, but I don't think it plays that way.

I don't really like the "new" concept.

When we did the Art of the Theme Show tour on the Wonder in August 2016, our tour guide talked about the hundreds of carpet patterns. If they can't get stains out, they replace them--and the larger carpets are 1 piece--like the atrium. It sounded like they have replacement carpets somewhere on the boat, and had recently replaced an area (wrecked by a sprinkler going off?...hard to remember the full story over a year later...)

We just returned from a cruise on the Magic on 9/16. There was so much to see and do we never even noticed the carpet.

I guess I am not one to scrutinize carpet. It seems a little odd to me. I can say one thing. Carpets just don't make or break our cruises.

Yeah, I am there to enjoy my cruise. Not crawl around looking for things that look "off".

Exactly, did you notice any carpet issues whilst about the Magic?

Nope. As I said in one of the other threads where it came up, what some think is "faded" is actually by design to represent the ocean floor.

It looks dirty from above. At least it did on my early summer cruise. It looks dirty enough that I had a couple conversations about it with people.

However it's not dirty. I may have inspected it closely during some events in the lobby and it's probably cleaner than any carpet in my house.

But yea I totally agree that from above it looks stained.

I saw this photo on another thread and I had to open it up to a broader audience, is it acceptable to have the ships main entry room (atrium) have such disgusting carpet? I asked if these were actually stains or just carpets with just an ugly design? The more I look at them the more they look like stains. Hard to believe Disney would allow a central meeting/gathering place to look like this, am I being unreasonable??
I couldn't view your photo, but I thought the carpet looked dirty on our cruise in June. In fact, I mentioned it on our comment card. I imagine a lot of stuff gets spilled on the carpet.

If you go in looking for things that are "wrong" you're going to find them.
Go enjoy you'll have a great time.
Except if it was a non disney cruise ship those dirty carpets would be a big deal to many of you. Then people on these boards would say that "other cruise lines don't maintain their ships like Disney". "You would never see that on a Disney ship" It would be one more validation for many on this board. It's been over a year since I've sailed on the Magic, but I can't remember anything remarkable about the carpet.

We were on the Magic Christmas 2015 and we definitely noticed the carpet. I know it was clean but it did look like there were stains everywhere. It is the way the carpet is made. Poor choice but I imagine it would be hard to know exactly how it would look until it was laid. I am hoping during the next dry dock it is replaced with a different pattern. It seriously looked dirty.

And even if it was stained... It's not the end of the world.

Don't get me wrong: I'm all for aesthetics and I have never been a fan of wear and tear... But the carpet is not a huge criteria in my idea of a successful vacation.

I'm starting to think that the expectations coming from the guests are part of the reasons why the DCL prices are so high... And vice versa.

If you are led to feel that your environment is dirty or not well maintained, that is a problem especially when you are paying a premium vs other cruise lines and the expectation and Disney reputation IS that of a clean as a whistle ship. After all of the feedback it clearly is a design issue , not a cleanliness issue which makes me happy !
