Could someone tell me the advantages and disadvantages of the magic bands? or do I have a choice of getting a band vs. plastic card? Thank you!!

If you are onsite you will get them. If you are offsite you could buy them. They connect you to all your info in your MDE. It makes it really simple to FP, MM if you have it, DDP if you have it....etc. if you are offsite you may not need it and could save a few bucks going without.

Thank you, was note sure if you had to buy it. I downloaded an app to my phone that says I can do fp from this app, so I guess I don't need the band.

Benefit 1: You wear them on your wrist instead of wherever you'd keep a plastic ticket
Benefit 2: The long-range capability will link up ride photos without having to scan your band. This is the only way to get ride photos on 7DMT.

Otherwise, they do the exact same thing as the plastic ticket.

You can BOOK the FP+ from the phone app, but you'll need either a magic band or your linked admission media to actually use the FP+ at the attractions.

Advantage: convenience. No need to pull your ticket/room key out for park entry, FP+ or opening your resort room pool gate. It's all on your wrist.
Disadvantage: Some people find that they are uncomfortable and they leave a tan line on your wrist.

We really liked the MB when we went in Feb. We were on site and it was really convenient to have the ticket and charging capabilities on our wrist. But I was traveling with an almost 2 year old, so being able to juggle it all was important. But, in complete honesty... I'm a tech geek and loved it :teeth:

if you are offsite you don't really need the bands, so spending extra is up to you... I personally don't like them much after using them once, and will just use my plastic ticket in the future

You don't need them onsite or offsite. Any card you have linked to your MDE account can also work as a room key(In fact I think you can decline a magic band and get a card instead if you want). As for memory maker, It will add ride videos on certain rides(off hand i remember 7DMT and TOT), but you can use a ticket card for the memory maker also, and you also will get ride photos(not the videos) as long as you tap your ticket on the reader below the picture on the monitor as you exit.

You got the rundown but for a younger child, the band is extremely convenient when it comes to fast passes. Since they are wearing it, they just tap it and go.

Can the mb be reused? Like, for our next vacation?
They cannot be transferred to anyone else but they are re-usable on your future trips. At some point, the RFID battery will wear out but the band will still be usable for things like park entrance, FP+ and making purchases
