how does disney land compare to disney world>
is it far from disney ladn to get to the beaches or ocean?

DL is like the Magic Kingdom at WDW. There are some attractions at DL that are not at MK, and vice versa. There are also some differences in some attractions that are featured at both parks(i.e., POTC is more elaborate at DL). If you have a chance to go to DL, don't miss it! It's very special.

DL is great, a very nice park. Similar but unique. There is a site somewhere that compares the two, can't find it though.

Disneyland is about 40-60 minutes from the beach, depending on traffic.

It is much, much smaller in size than WDW- it's mostly like having the Magic Kingdom, except more compact with more rides (except for Tomorrowland- unfortunately it's a ghost town at DL right now). The new park, Disney's California Adventure, is very small and only features a few "E" ticket rides at this point.

I grew up going to Disneyland- only went to WDW as an adult. I love Disneyland, but it definitely isn't the same all-encompassing experience as WDW is. But the magic is definitely there, as well as several attractions WDW doesn't have at all: the Matterhorn, Indiana Jones & the Temple of the Forbidden Eye, Alice in Wonderland, Pinocchio, Storybookland Canal Boats & Soarin Over California (at the new park) come to mind. It also has New Orleans Square and doesn't have Liberty Square.
