Just thought I would post this as when I was searching for information regarding the kids races I didnt find alot. We went ahead and registered them not knowing what it would be like, we are so happy and proud with the experience.

We arrived at Disney Wide World Sports on Thursday Jan 4th when the expo opened and the lines for the marathon & half were very long the kids line was not long at all. (Dh & I would go back the next day to get our documents)
The children were asked to find their name and proceed to the booth to complete registration.

Parents are encouraged to run with their children. Makes it great for the kids that are hesitant to go out and do it on their own.

For not knowing what to expect we found it very organized. Each age group has their own start point with the same finish line. The 7&8 year olds went first and as they ran by the start points of the younger groups (waiting for their turn) all the parents and children are clapping and cheering. This made the younger groups excited for their turn.

It was the highlight of their and our vacation!

Great pics Angela!

The 'Pirates & Princessses' races were great fun.

To get to the race track, you walk past the football or soccor fields to the end. There were lots of football players around that morning.

We arrived probably about 45 minutes or so before the races were to begin. The wait time wasn't too bad as there was entertainment. Music and a pirate host up on stage, and Mickey Mouse too! Also lots of pirates and wenches (princesses?) roaming about and interacting with the crowd. Towards the end there were hip hop dancers doing routines as well.

There were a few benches or bleachers set up at the finish line, the majority of people had to stand.

The runners were sent out in 'waves' in the different age groups, there were no 1st, 2nd or 3rd place finishes.

After a race would finish there would be an announcement, a child looking for their parents. Considering the number of children running all at once, etc, one or two separations seemed possible. They were reunited quite quickly.

There were a few injuries. I noticed a few children limping, scratched knees, etc.

After the race was complete and you were exiting the field there were castmates giving out medals to all the children wearing their race numbers. There was also tables with huge piles of a granola type bar for everyone.

It was a great experience and we are going back next year!

Hi Kelly

Great information added

Have a nice day
Angela

Do you have a close up picture of the medals? What are they made out of?

Thanks!

Im sure I will be able to find a close up. They are made of a rubbery material and are 4" diameter and 1/4" thick. One side was for the kids princess run and the other side for the boys pirate.

Have a great day
Angela

Thanks so much for the pictures! My DD is really looking forward to this next January - she will be 7 then. I am going to enter my 1 year old too ;)
