Disney is Uber Anti-Uber

Just a story from my last trip 6 weeks ago, didn't have time to post it.

I met a friend at Wilderness Lodge who lives outside Disney and she picked me up for dinner. She had no issue getting inside the resort to get me and picked me up out front.

After dinner, we came back and the guard at the WL gave us a hard time. "IS SHE UBER!? IS SHE AN UBER DRIVER!?" the guard stated to us rudely many times. I stated nope, she's just a friend who went to dinner with me.

Never thought it'd be such a hassle bringing a guest in....

I'm thinking of using Uber during my next trip.

Just out of curiosity, is there any reason why Disney should be anti-Uber?

Also, can Uber drivers pick up guests at the theme parks? Will the toll booths let them in without paying the $20 fee?

Is there a gate that the guard raises and lowers manually?

If not, then under these conditions just drive on.

I suppose that Disney has rules regarding taxi and limo and livery services since they have an "official taxi company" (Mears) whose drivers are allowed to pick up and drop off passengers without paying the parking fees. I still suggest that, for guests dropping off at the theme parks, the driver informs the toll taker at the park, thanks him, and then proceeds.

So one guard annoyed you and now Disney is "anti Uber?"

I'm not sure why you would stick around why a guard asked you the same question "many times." Drive away.

How does one just drive away from the gatehouse? Surely you aren't suggesting crashing through the gate.

Sure, why not, :P

I've never parked there; do they have a bar blocking the way in?

I still think this is a silly thing to be stewing over, six weeks later.

Not really stewing on it. Just sharing my experience since as someone else stated they might use Uber. The way the guard acted, it was like Uber comes from the depths of hell and are strictly forbidden.

Also yes there is a gate obviously at WL. How could I just drive off and not get back to my room?

One fiendish idea I have had was to, when someone asks essentially the same question over and over using dfferent words each time, you reply with the same answer verbatim each time.

So the guard also kept the gate down while asking the question? That was in your memory, but it wasn't in the OP so we couldn't know that he was refusing to lift the gate while asking the same question.

The way the guard acted

So how was he acting *along with* asking the question repeatedly? What was he doing when you responded. When/if you asked why he was curious, if there was a problem, etc, what did he say? What happened when you reported his bizarre behavior to the management at WL?

We used Uber to get us to Universal while staying at the Wilderness Lodge. We had zero issues, it all went very smoothly. We were picked up at 6am, and we came back around 6pm and our drivers never had any problems. Just FYI for anyone considering using it. It's much cheaper than a cab and the drivers we had were incredibly professional, and they were both probably the cleanest vehicles I've ever been in in my life. Both of our drivers said they love driving within Disney because it's super easy for them.

So, one cranky guard gate doesn't represent everyone :)

I would have gotten the guards name and complained.

I don't care WHO drives me in those "rent a cops" who are not really providing security are NOT hassling me! (Sorry asking for ONE ID in the car does NOTHING to make you safe LOL! )

While I don't excuse anyone from being rude, those "rent a cops" are doing their job. They don't make policy, they don't randomly decide to check id's, they are following their directions. You know what else that "rent a cop" is doing... working and earning a paycheck to support himself and his family. So maybe they are not serving much use other than show, but you don't have to be superior and snotty about it. He is just punching a clock and making a living the best he can.

As an uber driver, I can say Ive never had that issue. I have had them ask if Im uber, and I say Yes, and they say "have a good night!"

Can you provide a link to your thread? I'd like to read it. Thanks
