People also say kids and adults over the age of 10 don't like Disney...

ONE OF MY FRIENDS TELL ME THAT ALL THE TIME! SHE THINKS ITS DUMB. SHE SAID SHE THOUGHT WDW WAS STUPID WHEN SHE WAS 3. WHICH IS DUMB OF HER TO SAY TO A PERSON LIKE ME

I know about this much about emo-ness & scene-ness.

notice how i wrote nothing? yeah. that would sum it up.
but i can listen to emo music.
just as long as it's not emo-screamo.

I hate these threads. I really do. Emo=/=person. emo=/=emotional. emo is a genera of music called EMOTIVE. that came about in the early ninties. And it was good then. Now this 'emo' music is just pitiful. And the 'emo kids' don't even know what it means.

Just being my natural against-the-grain-self and throwing that out there.

Emotional Hardcore it is actually called and it started in the early 80's but who is keeping track ;)

Yeah, uh, scene is different than emo. Thought you should know...
yeah, uh, and scene is more popular than emo so my statement is correct.

To be honest, I don't know much about it, so Schmitty, I can't argue with you. I know my school is filled with people who title themselves as "emo" and when I asked a few kids what it meant they said it means "emotional". They can live, dress, and listen to whatever music they want and as long as they don't bother me, I don't give a crap what they do or what they say. I don't think it's right for people to stereotype. Period. I don't care if it's a type of music, clothing, or whatever. I really don't. I'm not "emo" and never will be. That matters to me and nothing else about this issue. I'm tired...stick a fork in me 'cause I'm done!

alright, y are we ranting about EMO? all i said what that disney was for emos too. so there. no rambling needed to reply to that.

I am keeping track.

It was a part of the 90s hardcore movement. Emotive-hardcore or Emotive was coined to describe bands like Rites Of Spring, which really started it. Then the term "emo" was created by a record lable to put down the kids that liked those bands in that movement. Emo was never something kids called themselves. It was an insult. Tons of bands came in on the Level-Plane record lable and all can be given some credit for the Emotive-Hardcore craze. Most of those original bands have broken up, but Level-Plane is still a major "emo" label.

Level Plne started in 1997 in new york. LP is a screamo label that has some of the most well known screamo acts signed to them. Emo started in 85/84ish in DC. Rites of Spring and Embrace where always called emo. RoS said the first time they were actually called it was by there fans. Its emotional hardcore not emotive lol. I have no idea where you got the idea that its short for emotive from.

Either way...

Hairmetal >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Emo. Today, tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, forever.

And even IF Emo started in the mid-80's, it sure didn't hit it's stride then. Not even close. :confused3

I have to say...

Don't say that you hate stereotypes and then go right on to say that emo kids like Mickey too. In doing that you have totally contradicted yourself.

I don't think I saw anywhere on this thread that ALL "emo" kids like Mickey. I do believe the point has been made that they shouldn't be grouped together as a whole. Some like it, some don't. :goodvibes

I dont like either so I have nothing to say about that.
It depends on what type of emo you liked. If you liked the early more hardcore sounding emo then you can say the first emo bands where the best, if you liked the more indie emo 2nd wave bands then the earlier 90's is the way to go. For screamo it would be the mid to late 90's and still some good ones today.

Emos wear eyeliner
pirates wear eyeliner
jack sparrow is a pirate pirate:
pirates are apart of Disney (pirates of the caribbean 1 & 2)

There you go my opinion, so an emo can like Disney. i don't like stereotypes.

I think she meants guys xD
Guys who wear eyeliner are usualy classifed as emo (I'm not saying that I think this, it's just the stereotype) or are in theater and therefore wear it for plays.
If she meant guys, I think she means the overloading of it. For example the goth wannabee Hilary Duff.
