Disney is the HOTTEST ticket in town!!!!!

It really wasn't. Frozen merchandise isn't doing all that well, but ELSA merchandise, IS*. If you see all the unsold Annas (poor Anna), all of that is wasted opportunity. Disney clearly knew Frozen would be big for them, but they didn't realize that the sister who is hardly seen in the movie would resonate with fans SO strongly.

I guarantee you, this will be something that Business classes of the future will dissect and analyze just like we did the New Coke debacle.

*And to a lesser degree, Olaf.

And you could very well be right.

What I'm saying though, is that the Frozen "outage" is much more likely to be intentional and "good" than the MDE outage we have seen today. It's like comparing Disney selling out of Elsa dresses because supply was kept low to Disney's website being unable to handle the amount of people coming to buy them and crashing. The latter doesn't make sense.

If it was intentional, limiting the amount given out today so it looks to be sold out makes more sense. Why crash the entire system, so people would look at it and say, "7DMT is popular, but MDE sucks" rather than "7DMT is popular"?

Haha!!!!! You are speechless and that's all good. But- there were over 50,000 FastPass+ reserved before the system finally crashed......that's the silver lining on the cloud. This is just a little "kiddie" coaster and people were saying that they were disappointed, etc. Today they should know they are part of a small minority.....7DMT is already a classic hit and it hasn't even opened yet.

The critics said it couldn't be done but Disney actually got over 50,000 people clamoring to book a reservation in advance for a little kiddie coaster in just 2 hours. I believe Disney is gloating right now. I hope not too long because more people are desperately waiting for this to be fixed.

Plus- the people who stalked this site all year finally got their free dining today!!!! These people don't even care about rides and FastPass+. They just want to go to Disney and eat for free. They know Disney offers a premium product at a premium (ridiculous) price and they just want the discounts!!!!

When the system crashes for other companies like Apple and every other company---- the consumer raises an eyebrow and wonders what they are missing out on. People are impressed by the huge amount of interest and response. The Disney brand is proving to be stronger than ever.

How many people visit MK a day? And we're supposed to be excited because a small percentage if them managed to book FP before the system crashed? Hardly a silver lining for all of the people who were at Disney today when the system crashed. If anything, I find it concerning that Disney didn't realize that announcing free dining and opening FP for 7DMT on the same day might be a problem and appear to have no back up plan in place.

When FP+ was introduced, there was a collective sigh of relief from all those who complained that they could never ride TSMM before because the SB line was too long and they could never get a FP. This new system was going to be their savior. Now, instead of disappointed people in the park, we will have disappointed people at their computers. The SB line for 7DMT will put TSMM to shame, and the difficulty in getting a FP will persist. Only under the old system, there was a guaranteed workaround for getting a FP. It was called getting your butt out of bed. Now, getting a coveted FP seems to be more random. Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss. Yes, demand is immense. But has Disney done anything to marry demand with gratification. That remains to be seen.

I think it's too early to call this ride an instant classic. This ride has been under construction for YEARS, just dangled out of the reach of anyone who has actually visited the MK during that timeframe. OF COURSE everyone wants to know what took so freaking long. The true test of whether this ride is an "instant classic" will come when you have actual guests riding it and are able to give their opinions. Until Disney gets around to doing that, we have no idea whether this ride is a success or not. All the FP+s today are a sign of pent-up anticipation, nothing more.

I think you need to lay off the kool aid for a while. The system crashed because Disney was incapable of maintaining a web site that could handle the volume of traffic from guests who are REQUIRED to make FP+s whether they want to or not. Why would Disney be gloating over a massive system failure that is only showing the world that their much touted system can't handle demand? When the system crashes the Disney brand is shown to be incompetent. People aren't impressed by this (at least those with an ounce of sense). They are much more likely to be disgusted, angry, impatient, or at the very least questioning the wisdom of a corporation that would have 2 major launches in a single day.

We are waiting to board our flight home after a great trip. I kept chuckling to myself the whole week though, because people keep forecasting dismal park attendance because of the changes.:lmao:

There were lots of people, more than I'm used to actually. We usually go at slow times. We still had a wonderful time and had no FP issues. I was able to change times and experiences successfully on several occasions.

No SDMT for me this trip, but we are booked for November so I'll have something to look forward to.

My one complaint was the weather for the final three days. Sheesh, should have worn a wetsuit and flippers. ;)

@luvthemouse71

Great to hear you had a wonderful vacation. How were the crowds at the three non-MK parks?

I can't wait (not really) to see what the standby line is like for this. Let's see if that makes people love Disney more.

But with everyone being able to get 4th and 5th etc FPs, it is quickly moving towards a 100% ride reservation system, so "standby" might soon become irrelevant.

Manufacturing demand by artificially limiting supply (regardless of the means) CAN be effective, provided that you have an outlet in a reasonable amount of time. "Reasonable" is a pretty big variable in that equation. If you can't get the product to customers, you risk pushing them towards substitutes.* But the fact is, almost no companies try doing this because it's incredibly risky. I highly doubt Disney is intentionally trying to limit supply here (either FP or Elsa merch). I think it's far more likely that they were caught flat-footed in both cases. *Why yes, I am in marketing. ;)

I wish you could get to the Disney purse peeps and explain reasonable time to them on behalf of all of us wanting the dang Haunted Mansion Dooney handbag! Also the Small World one......I managed to snag one but not the other and I know the demand is crazy for those bags!

Why are we having this conversation??? OP hasn't even been back....

In all honesty, I wasn't going to bring up Diagon Alley at all but I couldn't resist the chance for people to actually miss out on the complete absurdity of the original post. It really is pretty classic.

Working the graveyard has its rewards.

Just selected QTY 10 FP+ for 7DMT for the 28th and 10 for the 30th-am/afternoon and pm avail. Also did Space and BTMRR and Splash and BTMRR.

Can't wait to tell my coworker-family of 10 that have never been to WDW and wanted some planning help.

:cool1:

System crash equals good. Exactly what shade of rose are those glasses?

I think somebody's been hitting the Kool-Aid way early on a Friday afternoon.

The OP is the go-to authority for me when it comes to the biggest bang for my WDW kiddie-drink bucks. ;)

Ha!!!! You sure are right about that! And- they said nobody was excited about this "kiddie" coaster and that nobody would use FastPass+ because it was stupid and too complicated and the average person couldn't use it. Uh huh....they said that and plenty more. Thanks for reporting back-----so glad you had a great trip!!!!!

It tells me there is demand (desire) for more rides.
You can get rides anywhere..... amusement parks are everywhere. People desire and want more Disney. ::yes::

First, I'm not sure I've ever read critics say that this "couldn't be done." I'm not exactly even sure what you mean by that. FP+ critics are criticizing the process involved, but they never said people would NOT make FP+ reservations.

Second, the fact that "Disney got over 50,000 people clamoring to book a reservation" - is not something to gloat about. We are now FORCED to make a reservation - sometimes two months in advance - in order to even stand a CHANCE to ride it…without a 2-3+ hour wait (see A&E for an example).

Does this make me happy??? That I'm forced to reserve the exact 60-minute window, two months in advance, that I will be riding a kiddie roller coaster??

No. This does not make me happy at all. And to say that Disney is gloating about this makes Disney look like jerks.

JMO.
This is exactly what I am talking about. When I think of a jerk, I think of that crappy ex boyfriend not a billion dollar corporation. I find that correlation to be strange. Then you go on to say that you are being "FORCED" to reserve rides. Last I checked... this is still a free country. There are quality theme parks right up the road at Universal, Sea World, Busch Gardens, LegoLand, virtually anywhere and there is always Disneyland. You are not being forced to do anything that you don't want to. You made the reservations because you want to ride just like the rest of us!!! Any business would love to offer a product that drew so much interest-----where over 50,000 people visited the website to book reservations in just two hours. ::yes::

Haha!!!!! Disney wanted and expected Anna to be the star. I like Anna but Disney could not have been more wrong about that. :rotfl2: I completely agree that this wasn't intentional.

How many people visit MK a day? And we're supposed to be excited because a small percentage if them managed to book FP before the system crashed? I believe Disney underestimated demand. They need to stop doubting themselves and exhibit more confidence in their brand.

When FP+ was introduced, there was a collective sigh of relief from all those who complained that they could never ride TSMM before because the SB line was too long and they could never get a FP. This new system was going to be their savior. Now, instead of disappointed people in the park, we will have disappointed people at their computers. Well- I thought that all the people who woke up early got one.....so I think the same early bird principle applies here. I agree that the system has some room for improvement!!! :)

Nah...I'm going to have to disagree. I'm calling 7DMT an instant classic now. ::yes::

I'm sure this is going to be awesome but most little kids and elderly people won't be able to ride it. Also- a lot of people have vision problems and won't enjoy simucoasters. But- everyone over 38 inches can enjoy 7DMT. I'm more excited about Hogwarts Express and the ice cream shop than Gringotts.

Speaking of absurdity...While I truly believe Diagon Alley will be great, Universal is no significant threat to Disney. WDW enjoys 71% of the Orlando Marketshare. Universal is at 20%. They'll never be able to dethrone the mouse. And there's one major reason....Space. Universal has none and Disney has an abundance of it.
Sent from my IPad using DisBoards.

By definition the ride isn't a classic yet. I'm sure it will be...many years down the road when it's earned that bit of street cred.

Disney has always been the hottest ticket in town (that town being Orlando), with the notable exception of the months following the opening of WWOHP. I'm betting we'll see a similar, albeit relatively short, shift in the excitement when Diagon Alley opens.

I'm THRILLED that the ride is finally open, and THRILLED that people are excited about it. I too am excited to go for a ride. I also HOPE that Disney sees this excitement and buzz it's created with nothing more than a kiddie coaster and builds upon that momentum by continuing to add more and more attractions to the park.

Well- I thought that all the people who woke up early got one.....so I think the same early bird principle applies here. I agree that the system has some room for improvement!!! :)

Everyone who was informed and astute enough to know that FP+s were probably going to open that morning, woke up early one to two months before their vacations, were able to be on the computer on a work/school day, and didn't run into technical difficulties (which apparently, pretty much everyone did after the first hour).

I though FP+ fans said it was going to make things more fair for people who don't wake up early and aren't as informed and crazy-determined as "super users"? Didn't a lot of FP+ haters say that it was just going to change who got shut out? I expect the Mine Train and Anna & Elsa mania to die down eventually, but in the meantime....

If more FP+ are being held back, when are they being released? Random days, so people who frequent certain websites get them? Morning of, so only early-arrivers who know to check get them? In the afternoon, so "super-users" get two and others get none? (Wasn't that one of the "problems" with legacy FP?) How are average guests supposed to know any of this, if customer service is merely telling people they are "sold" out?

Just wanted to say that I just scored 6 7DMT fastpasses about 10min ago also for Sat. May 31st. There were NONE last night after the system crash, but it show them avail at all times (for May 31st) right now. I think they're staggering the release of the FP+s. Go check NOW!

In all honesty, I wasn't going to bring up Diagon Alley at all but I couldn't resist the chance for people to actually miss out on the complete absurdity of the original post. It really is pretty classic.

Absurd?... like someone spending his life on a Disney board saying "nu-uh Universal's better" :) Man, HP is cool. Love the new world. But SDMT will be making memories for children 30 years from now when HP has long since passed.

SDMT crashing the system is not "good" but it does exemplify how overwhelming demand exists for the ride. A&E selling out is not good any more than the Wii U selling out when it released... but again it shows demand is insanely high.

So I guess we conclude:
1) SDMT is a huge, amazing, world-theme-park-altering success.
2) Complainers will complain.
