Disney is my calling

After reading the rest of the posts I think we should go into business together and start planning Disney trips for families!!! :lmao: What a fantastic dream that would be.

I will NEVER get my hubby to move to Orlando or Florida in general for that matter. However I told him that I want DVC for my fortieth in 4 years!! That would give me a reason to go at least every other year. :cool1:

I believe that you could plan Disney vacations online and wouldn't have to live near Orlando. I know many of the Dreams employees work in other locations. It's mostly through e-mail and online.

AAAAAHHHHHH, I wish!!!:wizard:

Maybe someday.....................

Why do you think they give you that look?
My mom has worked at the same boring office job for over 35 yrs and SHE LOVES IT!!! I have a good job but it's not my passion and she's of the old school mind that you give up your passions to put food on the table when you "grow up". and have kids.

That's interesting. I thought it was more related to economics - as it takes some time to build up a following of clients that will take enough trips to give you enough commission to live on.

Many people who dream of earning money planning Disney vacations don't realize the reality of the job... others mention working a 9-6 office job - selling travel can take more hours per day than that sometimes - as well as weekend and night work. Most agents work on a commission split with their agency, which doesn't get paid to you until after the client travels - which could be many months away.

Don't get me wrong - it can be a lot of fun - but the trips don't just fall in your lap with the money going into your pocket right away.

For me it would be a passion thing. I believe you have to love what you do to be happy. Even if it means hard work/little pay. I guess w/her it comes from having 4 kids....4 kids that ate ALOT!! Even when I told her I'd keep my job and do the DTA thing on the side she was all "when would you have time??" I mean why not work hard at something you'd do for free anyway?? Maybe after I get her tail to Disney in October she'll join me in "the passion":rotfl:

I know many that do it on the side just for the passion, and their earnings are used to pay for their trips - and that is all they care to earn and they are happy with that. The effort that they put into it can mean the difference between a value resort stay and a deluxe resort stay.

Being a disney specialized travel agent would be my dream job....unfortunately there is not a huge calling for it hear in PA and haven't convinced dbf to move to Florida yet!

Location doesn't matter. I just left my customer service management position to become a travel consultant for a major chain travel agency. They are hiring a lot of new people. I took a pay cut but I don't care. I'm finally doing something I love, planning trips. It's not Disney all the time but when I get one, I get super excited to help the client. They have no idea how lucky they are to get me the Disney Expert!:thumbsup2

PM me if you want more info on the company. I don't feel comfortable posting the name.

Or it could just be that Central Illinois "sucks". There is nothing here. I really believe that it makes WDW look even better. Each trip we take my DW and I love Disney more. We constantly talk about what our "dream" Disney CM job would be (bus driver, security guard, etc.). We laugh about what outfit we'd look best in. I always come back to Quality Control. If there is such a thing. I'm anal about everything. If you find your calling...let me know. My DW and I will go with! Follow your dreams and never look back (especially if it is the flat-lands of Illinois)!

If I had some sort of home based travel planning booking business specifically for Disney Illinois would not be so bad.

I know agents from Springfield, IL, Akron, OH; and Wilmington, NC. All do quite well selling Disney vacations. Location doesn't matter as long as people live there that travel to Disney. With Facebook and its reach, people don't even need to be close to you - as long as you have connections.

These agents use their relationships with families, friends and coworkers to get the word out that they are selling Disney trips, and once they booked a few trips and word got out of how happy these people are with their vacation planners, the business just ramps up.

You need to hustle and work to get the word out though, you can't just sit around and expect it to come to you.

You can do it if you really want to.

I am recently unemployed and have been thinking about moving down there to get my foot in the door as well. Unfortunately, that cann't happen when you have less than $200 to one's name. One day. The positive is I'm going to be in DLR in less than 3 months and WDW in the beginning of October. The boards are a way to live vicariously.

TGFTDIS...Thank God for the DIS.

i live on the other side of the world and totally adore where i live and yet i too often daydream about moving to orlando and working at disney...

nuts?...... perhaps.. ;)
