Hello everyone, I'm a college student who is looking into internships. I know several friends who are/ have interned with disney. My problem is that i'm not sure if their internship would fit with my major. I'm a digital cinema major, or as it is better known a cinematography major. Is there a disney internship for my type of major, or does the disney internship fit with my major?

Here's the thing.

The majority of what is discussed on this board is the College Program, which does not necessarily apply to any one major in specific. College Program roles do not necessarily immerse participants in any extremely specific fields- they involve fields such as quick-service food & beverage, merchandise, Character Performer, Lifeguard, etc.

And then there are Professional Internships. These are closer to what the general collegiate population know as "internships". These are in very specific fields ranging all across the many department that Disney offers and immerses you in some very specific work. I have friends who are interns in a ton of things ranging from Engineering Services to Disney Fairy Tale Weddings to Travel Industry Sales. There are many of these, but these are very competitive, much more so than the CP, and doing the CP beforehand really helps out with a lot of the PIs. In fact, one specific field of PIs are for CP alumni only.

So is there a CP that might help you with digital cinema? Probably not. The closest I can think of is PhotoPass, and you'd be out in the parks taking photos of people and working with the equipment.

The PI might be a better chance to find some more detailed practical experience- I am not sure about opportunities in the digital cinema field but I am sure that they do have internships with production studios. Finding a field that is related to but not exactly your field may open your eyes to something that you've never known about before that you may be interested in, and it will definitely give you opportunities to network, which the PI is FANTASTIC in.

Hope I answered your question!

The problem with your question is that Professional Interns vary widely between departments.

About the only commonality you'll find is that you generally have to be enrolled in college to apply for one (unless it's one that you can have graduated in the last several months to apply)(or be on the college program and not have completed two consecutive programs).

PIs tend to be a little more specialized, and a lot more competitive. They also may not offer the same PIs every semester: for instance, I'm extending in mine, so they're not even posting mine for next semester. The only thing to do is to look on disneyinterns.com when the recruiting season is ongoing and read the specific requirements for any internships you're interested in.

There are also different summer and semester internships with different segments in California (i.e. NOT parks and resorts, rather The Studios, Consumer Products, Corporate, Interactive Media, etc). Again, you need to look at Disney Careers online to see the exact offerings, as they constantly change due to business need. The good news is that these internships do not require prior participation in the college program, the bad news is that they are in some respects even more competitive than the parks and resorts PIs.
