The plan is to book a Disney vacation packge for 6 - 13 SEP 10 for the CBR. We plan on driving from IN to FL. Flying is too much of a hassle, no thank you!

In any case I know disney offers insurance any info on what it coveres? does not cover? Any better insurance for your $$ out there?

My concerns would be the following:
- hurricane season (I'm going in it)
- cancellation of entire trip (99% we are going; you just never know)

Anything else I should be looking for? in?
Thanks

1. See insuremytrip.com for a variety of options - you are going to want to make sure WHATEVER policy you buy covers ALL your possible reasons for cancelling
2. If you delay your vacation - vs. cancel it - WDTC/CRO generally allow you to transfer your entire payment with no penalty
3. Disney's penalty for a package cancelled between six and 44 days in advance is $100; for a package cancelled fewer than six days in advance it's $200; compare those prices to the total cost of any policy you purchase
4. Disney's penalty for a room-only reservation cancelled six or more days in advance is $0; fewer than six days, it's the one night's deposit you paid - again, compare to the total cost of any travel insurance plan
5. Consumer Reports recommends NOT getting travel insurance, that it's a waste of money and generally doesn't cover what you need/expect it to cover.

Do you absolutely have to have a Disney package? If you book a room only, you can cancel up to 5 days before your vacation starts.

Where I find the travel insurance helpful is when I'm booking air and going out of the country.

You can compare coverages with different companies at www.insuremytrip.com. The policies will identify what is covered. Read them carefully.

Remember, insurance only covers the non-reimburseable parts of your vacation. For a Disney vacation, that at most would be a nights stay and possibly your airfare (change fee).

Most insurance is not a "cancel for any reason" and you'll need to read the fine print to see what is covered and not (most are medical/accident related - with some with job loss).

In the event of a hurricane (they don't hit Orlando very often - maybe some TS winds and rain, but about it), most likely you'll know a day or so in advance of your trip, you could reschedule your plane tickets and hotel at no charge as most likely the area will be under a state of emergency for the hurricane. If the hurricane happens while you're there you'll be rescheduled on a different flight if applicable and at most you'd be out an additional hotel night stay.

If you're deadset on insurance, ask for a copy of the policy/contract from Disney and compare it to the coverages listed on insuremytrip.com (a great resource to compare many different coverages).

And since the OP is driving, trip insurance seems like a particular waste of money.
