Disney Inn ????

Anybody here ever hear of a hotel on WDW property called Disney Inn. It was supposedly on the monorail line. I told the person who said they stayed there that I had never heard of this hotel, only Poly, Grand Floridian and Contemporary. They said the Contemporary had been too expensive so they stayed at the Disney Inn instead.

I only started going to WDW 10 years ago, she said she had been there just after the parks opened in the 70's.

TIA if anyone has an answer to this one.

Very interesting. She was right, but it was originally the Golf Resort, became the Disney Inn and then the U.S. Military took it over as Shades of Green.

I've never heard of Disney Inn. There's the Wilderness Lodge in that area, but that's not in the monorail area.

Well, if she said that it was on the monorail line, I can see where you would have been confused. Not your fault!

Shades of Green used to be called the Disney Inn. It is not located on the monorail, but is close to the GF and the Poly.

I stayed there a couple times in high school when it was called the Disney Golf Resort and when it was called the Disney Inn. As a matter of fact, I still have the check-in itinerary folder and paperwork printed with both of the old names and logos (Mickey swinging a golf club on the Golf Resort folder and Sleepy dwarf on the one for the Disney Inn).

I am so glad that you asked this question. I had been looking through an old Disney book that came out during WDW 's 25th celebration. It did mention the Disney Inn. I have been going since 1978 and vaguely remember it. I read it was located on a golf course and it actually had Chef Mickey's there. This definately through me for a loop. I couldn't figure out where it had been on the property. Thanks for the info!!!

I stayed there three times in the mid 80's myself. At the time there we really only 3 Disney hotel options and reservations were hard to come by. Since we were traveling with our high school swim team, our coach always chose the Golf Resort/ Disney Inn over the Poly or CR because it was quieter. The rooms were big and we squeezed an awful lot of teenage girls in there.

The Golf Resort opened in December of 1973 and originally had 125 rooms. It was located near the Palm and Magnolia golf courses between the Polynesian and the then-unbuilt Grand Floridian.

Perhaps to appeal to more than just golfers, it became the Disney Inn in February of 1986 and was remodeled to have a Snow White theme. Another 150 rooms were also added at this time.


We stayed there in the mid 1980's. It was a beautiful resort within easy walking Distance of the Poly. The rooms were huge and slept 5 guests. Our
rooms was on the first floor. We could sit on our patio and watch the golfers playing.

My children still remember the fired ice cream we had for desert at the Disney Inn.

Yes, it isn't quite on the monorail, but an easy walk to it.

We stayed there on our honeymoon in 1987. DH is a golfer, so I thought it was a good idea for his first of many disney trips. It was a nice resort and a short walk to the Poly to catch the monorail.

Oooh.... I forgot about the fried ice cream!! This was back in the day where we got dressed up for dinner every night. I have my first Maine lobster at the Garden Gallery.

I stayed there when I was 15. It wasn't on the monorail line but so close I could see why she would say that. I remember getting on the monorail at what must have been the Poly. It was a very nice hotel. I think that was in 1989 that I stayed there.

The Disney Inn was my family's resort of choice for most of the eighties.
It was nice and quiet but still an easy walk over to the Poly to hang out or ride the monorail to the Magic Kingdom.My Dad always chose the hotels we stayed at back then and he was really into golf courses.I don't recall eating any fried ice cream there but I seem to remember that they had a good breakfast buffet that we went to at least once each trip whether we were staying there or not.I think we last stayed there in 1988.We didn't go again until 1992 and it seems like it was already Shades of Green by then but I'm not sure.

We stayed there many moons ago, but it was never on the monorail line. It's now what is known as Shades of Green.

We stayed at the Disney Inn on my very first disney trip when I was 7years old. It was the best trip and I remember the snow white picture in our room. Oh the memories.
