Disney in your Classroom

I teach college and gave them something similiar to this in my math for Elementary Teachers class. I also included a google maps aspect where they had to approximate the area MK, DL, Hongkong DL or Toykyo DL and Space Mountain. Can't wait to see the results.

My students gave their presentations this week. - most were very good.
They were a family of four, and had $3000 for 5 nights - I did not have them include transportation.

It was interesting to see "non-Disney" people plan...one "family" thought they could do all 4 parks in 2 days and would just spend the rest of the time at the resort (I'm sure the kids would go for that Another family thought they could all share a meal at CRT to make it affordable.

Many researched very well and took advantage of free dining or the gift card.

All families were surprised to find out how much Disney information was out there, how much work it too to plan the trip, and that they could afford it. Most were shocked at the ticket prices but aren't we all???

I'm a crazy Disney teacher too! I'm the three year old teacher at a 3's through 12 grade private school. My classroom is jungle themed because I also love parrots. I should have some Jungle Ride posters up! But I love to buy Disney pins and wear them on my lanyard. I change them out depending on what color or letter or shape we are learning that week. Last summer at DLR I found a Mickey head shaped pin filled with hearts and I'm wearing it for learning heart shape this week. The kids love to look at my pins.

When it is someone's birthday I wear one of those big buttons they pass out in the parks that says "I'm Celebrating!" and has Mickey balloons on it. And of course I wear my Mickey watch and Mickey earrings everyday.

Oh, in the classroom I do use those Home Depot Mickey paint chips to learn about colors and different shades of colors.

Parents know to come to me for advice about visiting DLR, like what is the best time to visit Disneyland to avoid crowds.

You're welcome. I also put up a small banner across the top of his or her cubby that says "Happy Birthday".

Here's a thread for all of you teachers and homeschoolers that try to incorporate your love of Disney into the classroom.

I'll get things started. First of all.. here are some shots of some new things I put up in my classroom this year. I teach 3rd grade in Indianapolis.

Here is my 'helper' board:

After I put it up, I realized I should've titled it "Handy Helpers" after the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse hands. Then I realized I teach 3rd graders, and they might be offended by the preschool reference!

Steal away!!! For the hands, I just 'Google Imaged' Mickey Mouse hands (I had no idea how many vulgar versions of Mickey hands there are in the world!) I copied and pasted the hand into a Word document, enlarged it to the size I wanted. Then I ran multiple copies of it, laminated, and cut! I put small Velcro dots on the back so that they could just pull off of the job and be switched from week to week. I also used a Vis A Vis (wet erase) marker to put my kids' names on there, so I could just wipe it off and put new names on it next year!

Steal away!!! For the hands, I just 'Google Imaged' Mickey Mouse hands (I had no idea how many vulgar versions of Mickey hands there are in the world!) I copied and pasted the hand into a Word document, enlarged it to the size I wanted. Then I ran multiple copies of it, laminated, and cut! I put small Velcro dots on the back so that they could just pull off of the job and be switched from week to week. I also used a Vis A Vis (wet erase) marker to put my kids' names on there, so I could just wipe it off and put new names on it next year!

I am a Disney fanatic teacher too... a librarian! In just 9 days myself and three other adivisors will escort 24... 7th and 8th graders to WDW on the fieldtrip of a lifetime! We literally have classes in the theme parks, at Kennedy Space Center and at Sea World! To prepare for the trip our students were required to research five Disney/Kennedy/SeaWorld topics and create a Disney Float out of a shoebox and we also tie dyed our own Mickey Head t-shirts (using the directions here on the Dis)... and when we return the students will be required to create a memory book so they can remember this experience forever!
