Disney+ in Villas

One thing I’ve found strange since joining DVC, is the absence of Disney+ capabilities in the rooms. Not that I believe it should be offered for guests, but what about the ability to login to those accounts from the room TV?

I was able to cast from my iPad to the TV at Riviera in December. Just had to log in and get a code from the TV. Watched Ratatouille since DH had never seen it. Halfway through Remy he makes us all laugh when he said “Oh, WE ARE THE RAT”.

I know Disney wants us out of the room, but with little ones it would be super helpful. My kids need to wind down a bit after the excitement of the parks, and there’s not a lot on regular tv for the under 10 age group at 8 at night. Disney Jr is always an option, but sometimes you want something other than Bluey or Spidey. I think we’ll bring our firestick next summer 👍🏻

the televisions in Riviera have streaming capability, if you have Disney + on a device from which you can stream it. No other DVC resorts currently have this capability built into the TVs. Otherwise you need a streaming device like a firestick or Roku that can connect to the rooms' wifi.

I guess the DVD library is still technically a DVC perk, LOL.

yeah, that’s what made me think about streaming access. My kids wanted to watch a movie last week at BLT. I checked out one from the community center (after a lengthy wait) and was trying to play it in the room. The only issue was there was no way to select a different input on the TV, so we couldn’t even watch it. The remote was universal and didn’t have an input option.

on the Samsung televisions, there may be a button underneath the front of the TV or a toggle on the right lower back, depending on the model, that you can use to change the source input. If they have disabled it you won't be able to (some hotels disable TV settings but most WDW resorts don't disable all of them). some of the resorts have the original Samsung remote and some use universal remotes that have limited settings.

If you're going to stream via a Roku or firestick, you will still need to change the source input to HDMI unless you are at Riviera.

Yeah, that’s a good point. The tv we had did not have any buttons you could toggle. I have similar Samsung’s at home, so I guess I could bring my remote to change H-D input, along with a firestick.

I think that was a joke. OMG, there really still is a DVD library???

Lol. Oh yes, there is still a DVD library in the community hall. You can check them out just like at blockbuster.
Oh, how I miss blockbuster 🤣

I’m so glad you brought up this topic bc I had the SAME thought on our trip 2 weeks ago. I really enjoyed Harmonious, and it made me want to watch Coco again during a rainy night at WDW. But alas, no Disney+. I thought it was so bizarre that I decided to Google it. I saw an article from a few years ago that mentioned Disney planning to roll out Disney+ throughout their resorts (I just figure it would be smart from a marketing perspective too - get folks hooked who don’t have it yet). It said the new tower at Coronado has it I believe? Or has the ability? Perhaps Covid derailed those plans since they might wait until they need to update TVs for other resorts/rooms.

Just remember that firesticks need a USB Power supply, and not all TVs have a USB outlet next to the HDMI port. To be safe, I'd bring an extension cord and a charger cube.
Maybe it’s not all of them, but my Fire TV Stick has an AC power cord. Just plugged it into a wall socket and connected it to an HDMI port on the TV.

Exactly this. Plus, if I took a firestick, etc I'm sure I'd forget it. Why not include D+ - what a great way to market it? I mean, I assume most WDW visitors already have it - but still.
