Disney in September

We went in September 2014...I remember it was hot, not too crowded. But, the thing I remember the most were the bugs, I think they call them lovebugs...there were everywhere! It was really annoying! :)

LOVED our September trip! You can always cool off in AC and a pool. I love to go that time of year. We can't anymore because we now have kids in college but it was great when we could! :)

Never again. Went a couple days after Irma blew threw and the most of the theme parks--especially MK!-- were wall to wall people because of cancelled and rescheduled vacations. The water parks were empty though! We expected it to be hot and humid, however, one of the members of our party got a paper cut on the back of her leg at a water park and the bandaid kept falling off because she was sweating so much. The bandaid turned into a bandage and the minor cut turned into a bigger cut that would not heal or close due to the humidity. There is no telling how many places she bled and sweated all over the parks in the course of a week. Within half a day of coming home from her trip the cut dried up and started healing normally because she lived in a place with less humidity.

We've been over the summer, and didn't feel that much difference in temperture. What was annoying was the September is considered "off season" so the parks close early...super frustrating to be shoved out of a busy park at 8pm or earlier in warm evening weather. Might as well just do summer with the extended hours at that point.

We always loved Sept. but won’t take the peak hurricane risk again.

Irma cut our last trip very short. We left 2.5 days into our trip once Irma’s path was clear. Our Sunday night flight got cancelled on Wednesday. We did not want to waste our DVC points to ride it out. Chose to leave early, save the points and go back in May. Plus we had no clue when we would even be able to fly home since our flight was cancelled 4 days ahead of time. So we rented a car with car seats and drove home after just a couple days.

I will never go to WDW during peak hurricane season again.

My tip: have a plan for if a hurricane strikes. What will you do? Ride it out? Leave? We had a plan when we knew Irma was a possibility, which was helpful. We knew we would leave and not waste our DVC points to sit at the hotel. By planning ahead we were able to get a rental car with car seats and leave.

Have done September 2006-2016, yearly for 9-11 day trips.

Rarely even had rain.

HOT, HUMID and more like summer but with less people and shorter hours.

BUT the last two years the hurricane season has been whacky so no promises.

PS: Am booked for this September again. My shifting to October last two years only meant more crowds, more expensive rooms & MNSSHP tickets and same weather.

September can be hot as the surface of the sun, and it’s nowhere near as empty as it used to be(especially early in the month), but with cooling breaks and plenty of hydration, you’ll be good to go. Enjoy!

I just got back and have some advice regarding rain. Pack a light rain jacket and take it with you to the park on the days where rain is forecast. Not a poncho, a rain jacket. You can find them on Amazon. We were at Epcot on Sunday and it rained lightly for a while. It eventually stopped, but rain was forecast intermittently the rest of the day. We had ponchos but quickly realized we'd need rain protection more than once, so a poncho was not the best for us. Plus, they can be cumbersome and a pain in the rear to wear. My friend and I made a judgement call and purchased the Helly Hansen rain jackets from the Norway pavilion. This was a big purchase at $100 (luckily we only paid $80 with passholder discount). These were wonderful and made the rain much more bearable! We felt much better in those than in ponchos. Take a look at Amazon or your favorite outdoor store and come prepared, so you're not making a $80-100 judgement call during your trip!

We must have been in a different universe because the parks were heaven right before and right after Irma. There wasn't any real type of a crowd even on our last WDW park day on the 15th. Gah so many rides were walk on and we got rolling FPs a lot.

Here's MK at 1:15pm on 9/15 for example:
upload_2018-5-9_10-10-43.png I'd like to think that usually that Hub is full of people at that time of day.

We were at Universal the 16th and 17th and again no crowds at all. We did do monorail resort hopping on Monday the 18th and noticed that's when the crowds actually started showing up at MK. I can't speak for the 16th and 17th at WDW though so perhaps that's when you're talking about though.

Parks also didn't close at 8pm at least from 9/12-9/17 if talking about after Irma unless you're talking about the 7pm close for MK for MNSSHP dates.

I really feel like we're talking about a parallel universe or something unless you're speaking more than a couple of days after Irma..

We were at Universal 9/8, WDW 9/9, and 9/12-9/15, Universal 9/16-9/17 no crowds

Solid advice. We are not poncho people, so we invested in some light rain jackets. We live in a rainy climate year round, so we love having them anyway.

I'd get a pac a mac, it's basically a thin rain jacket that you can put in a small bag when not in use. I actually got one from Skechers last time I went, but you can get them cheaper on Amazon.

We have many September trips under our belts.

During the day it will still be melt-your-face-off hot most days....but you're at Disney!

It will rain at some point most days. Take a poncho each day and always cover your stroller even if it's bright and sunny when you enter a ride or attraction.

The later you go in the month, the greater the chance that you might get a bit of a break from the heat in the evenings, but not always.

After last year, if they forecast a hurricane while you're there, no a biggie. Disney did great during Irma so I wouldn't hesitate to go during hurricane season.

Have a great time! We love our September trips!

planning a trip for September. Who has experience with Disney in September?! Getting nervous ab weather. Have any tips?

Expect HOT, Humid and thunderstorms.

And did I mention that it will be HOT and humid?

There's no reason to be more nervous about the weather in September than any other time in the summer or Hurricane season. Most of the time it's no big deal. The thunderstorms usually are brief. Outdoor rides will temporarily close if there is lightning. If it's just raining, put on a poncho and flip flops and carry on with your plans.

we ONLY go in September. It's a gamble lately with the hurricanes....but ya can't beat the crowd level. It used to be a 3-4 out of 10....now its more like a a 5-6....but still better than the other peak times. I like it it because you can still enjoy the pool. It'll be hot...but not unbearable. It's also Food and Wine which is my favorite event!
