Disney In September

Hello fellow Disney fanatics!

I have been to Disney World many, many times during different seasons. I have yet to go in September and I'm trying to book a trip during the month of September . I was wondering if anyone has any feedback in regards to crowds, park hours and the most needed information....weather. I was in Disney, one year in October, and was caught in tornado season which made for an uneventful trip ...much of which I am trying to avoid this time. Any information you have is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

September park hours were released yesterday (at least partially). Check here on the DIS or on the official WDW website for the hours.

September crowds are among the lightest of the year at WDW.

We go in September every year. The parks are pretty empty but word to the wise...because of the free dining offers...the restaurants are PACKED. Make sure to make ADRs if you are going in September. It tends to be very hot in September and we get rain most late afternoon for at least a little while. But not having to wait in line for long (or at all) is the draw for us.

We just went this past September, and I do have some things that made September rough:


1. The parks weren't all that busy BUT because they weren't a lot of the Fast Pass terminals weren't open. However much I didn't "need" the fast pass with short lines, it would have helped tremendously with two small kids to have a set time to come back to the more popular rides!

2. I think they limp some of the rides along until Labor Day and then close them for "refurbishments". We missed out on a lot of rides that were being worked on. My DD was unhappy that the rocking roll roller coaster was closed.

3. The busses were INCREDIBLY slow. It is probably because they cut back on the number of busses when the numbers in the parks go down. We actually missed our Magical Express shuttle because it took us an hour and a half to get back to our resort from Down Town Disney.

4. Free dining does PACK the restaurants. We had advance dining reservations and still waited 30+ minutes for every seating, and it took a long time at each meal since the restaurants were full to capacity (and then some).

5. It is hurricane season, so buy the insurance! And rain is very common. We missed a few parades because it was raining. We got thoroughly SOAKED a few times too.

6. It is REALLY REALLY REALLY hot! I had no idea how much heat just saps you of your will to move!!! I can't count the number of times I would have paid to just lay down!

I went in May in 99 and if I am going to pull the kids out of school anyway like I did this September, I think we will opt for May next time!

I agree it is HOT!!!!!!!!!! And it rains...ALOT!! We were actually walking in water up to our ankles in MK!! Crazy!! It rained everyday and usually it messed up our night time plans (Spectro, MNSSHP, Wishes, Etc).

The restaurants were packed (even the counter service places). I agree you definitely need to make ADRs. The parks didn't seem too bad.

On the plus side there were no love bugs when we were there!

HOT, HOT, HOT, HOT, Rain storms daily but the crowds were pretty low. We enjoy September and would go again.

It is hot and it rains every day, but the parks are slow.
With free dining the resturants are packed, but you can take advantage of reservations well in advance and you should have no problems!
I never hesitate about going in September...

We went the last week of September 2006 and had a great time. I think there was only one or two attractions that were closed down and it wasn't a major one. It was warm and humid but we only had one day of rain and then it was only for 20-30 minutes. I know that isn't the norm but we thought it was great. We are going back September 2009.

As the others have said, September can be hot and rainy. We went September 29-October 7 last year, and it rained nearly every day (but often only once or twice a day, for a short period of time). Only had one torrential downpour, and one day when it rained off and on all day long. It was very hot, too.

We went back in 2005 and happened to be there when Hurricane Wilma went through. It wasn't bad at all - we got the "edges" of the hurricane and the parks were only closed for 1/2 day. It really helped keep the crowds down, and there was an added benefit - the weather (after the hurricane went through) was great! Not humid, pleasantly warm, and no rain!

As far as trip insurance goes, I would get it only if you do a WDW package. We did all of our pieces separately (park tickets, hotel, airline arrangements) and didn't feed the need to spend extra money for trip insurance because just our flight would have been affected by the hurricane - that's the only thing we prepaid.

We went last Sept. and had a few hit or miss rain showers... the one I remember, i was on the bus heading back to the resort, by the time we got there it was sunny again... It was hot but not like July and Aug. the last day the love bugs showed up, we were happy to leave them behind... so this year, we are going a few days earlier to be sure we miss them again!
We had love bugs in May and it was enough of them for a while!
i had my kids telling me " Mommy look the bugs are giving each other rides" lol

I remember a little rain just enough to cool us down The crowds were low and we had made our ADR's ahead of time. We will be going back again this year I took my DD's out of school only missing 3 days each. But this year it will only be Me my DH and DD(13) My DD (16) said she does not want to miss school What ??? I don't understand it how could she not want to go ????? I will not force her but will miss her soooo much

We have been there twice in September. In 2006, the parks were empty and there was no wait for the rides. I have tons of pics where it is hard to believe the park was even open! We went back last Sept and what a difference. Still empty compared to other times of the year, but that free dining really brought much more people to the park. The food lines were crazy. We didn't have to wait for our ADR's but the restaurants were packed, as were the stores. there was about 5-15 min wait for rides.
