disney, in reality or not

Was this Dr. referred by the seminary school? If so, your son might report him to the school.

this psychologist was one of two that the semenary uses, we chose him because he was the one closest to the seminary and had been used by other applicants, we did voice our opinion to the vocation director that we felt that the psychologist's results were incorrect, i stated my whole family were big disney fans so we must all not be in reality, he said that what he knows of my son it would not seem like he is not in reality, but the board looks at the applicants on paper not in person, so the psychologist 's report will represent my son, hopefully the second one will turn out in his favor and will also be presented to the board

i showed all these wonderful posts to my son and he was greatly appreciative of all the support he was getting from his fellow dis boarders, thanks for your responses

"If growing up means it would be...beneath my dignity to climb a tree...I won't grow up, no won't grow up...NOT ME!"

We obviously don't know all the history that led your son to chose this seminary, but based on the fact that this so called professional is one that the school has chosen to be affiliated with, maybe your son should look for another seminary. Your son obviously comes from a strong family background, and enjoying vacations together, no matter where, is a positive thing!! It's the psych who is out of touch - not your son. Is the seminary also out of touch? It seems like more and more of them have bought into the philosophy that anything associated with mainstream American lifestyle is not politically correct, or religiously correct.

Truly amazing that such idiots exist. I have little time or patience for these people. They abuse the power they have and ruin so many peoples lives with their own biased minds.

Tigger53...tell your son the world is unfair and unjust but not to let idiots like this get to him. He sounds like a wonderful individual and you should be proud of him and the fact he is prepared to stand up for himself.

Good luck to you all with the second opinion.
Keep us updated.

My guess, and it's only that, is maybe you need to switch roles and have this pschologist take a seat on the couch. Sounds to me like he is jealous that your son can go and have a good time every year, and maybe HIS father never took him to WDW.

May sound far fetched, but I would bet I'm pretty close to the truth. Because in my experience, people who really resent Disney (and those of us who enjoy it) are basically very unhappy people and never had the chance to experience the magic when they were young.

Hi I just wanted to thank everyone myself for all the support your giving me in these posts. Hopefully my meeting next week with the second pyscologist will go better than the first one did.

and Jesus replied, "Let the little children come to me"
We are called to be like children, with all the faith, hope and love they possess.
I work in an emergency room and deal with Psychologists, they are not perfect.
God Bless your son and his journey through life, and congrates on a job well done of raising him.
John

i was just thinking, maybe you should print out these posts and take them with you because they're all really good responses

I am so sorry that your son has to go through this. It is hard enough to have the daily presssures of just being a nineteen year old boy, I can recall how difficult it was to be a good person who is family centered at that age, expecially having to constintly be under the pressure and critism of peers. Hopefully this is not your son's case, but if it is, to add an adult proffession telling him that he is not in reality because he enjoys something that millions of people all over the world do, disney, a place that represents happiness and innocence, than that is down right wrong. My prayers and thoughts are with him and you at this time. Please keep us posted on what happens with the next meeting. God Bless

Perhaps your son's exposure to Disney is what lead him down the path to choose seminary school? Disney has created an environment that allows all that visit to dream & explore all the possibilities life and imagination has to offer...

I know whenever I am in EPCOT, or I look out on the caribbean blue waters when I'm on the ship it makes me feel serene, thankful and a little closer to God. That is a feeling that is very real to me.

Sounds to me if he's not "in reality", he's in very good company. Tell the shrink, or the seminary review board to try the candlelight processional sometime & not come away with a feeling of "real spirituality"...

I wish him much luck in his endeavor. If the Disney factor persists as a roadblock in his pursuits, perhaps God just has bigger plans for him!

thanks for the post Dianthus, i know what you mean about feeling spiritual when your standing on the ship and watching a beautiful sunset or just enjoying the crystal clear waters of the carribean, my son and daughter both share these sentiments with me.
