What are the crowds like? when are the schools back in? the 2008 Rates have 8-3 as Value season? Im a bit confused on this? I thought that would be super busy!

We went in mid August last year and the crowds were not as bad as they are in June and July. We are going back this year in August too.

the heat will be brutal. and the crowds high, but not overcrowded.

man, im soo torn - I did a pricing online for dec (when we were originally going) and then the basic same thing, difference is about 1000$ cheaper in august...plus SOONER!!

WWYD?

We went last August, the heat was very bad, but the crowds were not too bad. We did get a lot of thunder and rain in the afternoons that would empty the parks out a great deal.

We've done mid to late august each summer since 2003. You'll have fun - just plan well. Yes it is hot and crowded, but you can still have lots of fun. Here is what we do: go to the parks early. Unless we can get there in time for opening, we try not to go to the park that has early entry. Then we stay for a few hours and by noon we head back to the hotel. We spend the afternoon at the pool, give DD a nap and bath in the room, and plan to go to a park in the evening.

We try to go to a food court or get dinner early and then head out for the evening. I've been there other times of the year, too. When it is cooler out it is easier to spend longer periods of time in the parks. But I have found that the result is that I don't end up with the same time at the hotel and when all is said and done the trip does not end up feeling as much like a vacation. Also, its not that crowded in august in comparison to other times of the year.

In the parks, we carry water bottles. I bring a swim diapers or clothers that DD can get wet so she can go in the water jets or fountains that they have. We wear crocs or tevas and dress very lightly. I like to wear a bathing suit top with a tank or something like that.

You'll have fun

I'm going in August and can't WAIT!!!

Sure, it will be hot. That's OK. We'll head back to the resort for a swim each day, have an early dinner, and be back in the parks for the evening.

We nearly always go mid-late Aug.

The crowds aren't as bad because:

Many school districts (especially those down South) start school early Aug.

The schools w/ later starts have practices such as football and band which start 2-3 weeks before school starts. Families with older children in these activities would have to be back in town.

Plus, I think many families prefer going on vacation as soon as the school year ends, not just before it begins.

Aug is very hot and humid, but is managable. Drink lots of water, wear strong sunscreen and hats. Get out of the sun mid-day. Go back for a swim!

We love August. Yep, it's hot and humid but hey it's hot and humid in NY so I'd still rather be in Disney.
Parks are open late so we go back to the resort during the mid day and chill.
Go back to the parks with a lot of time to play at night.

Ok guys, Im gonna call today, and have them quote me the week I wanna go, and then week in august, we are in texas - so hot and humid really isn't an issue except for with DH, he isn't into Disney - this will be his first trip...and that is what I most worry about..if he is miserable all is miserable...but the price is right...and he said go for it I better before he changes his mind ;)

If you are from Texas he is used to the heat but I'm not too sure about the crowds. We were there in Dec and unless you are prepared and have visited before I'm not sure how well he will take that. I think Disney will look better with less crowds. And spending less money will proably make him happier too, Enjoy

Poohbearrocks we were there this past summer. DD's bday is 8/3 so we decided to be there for her bday. We are from Texas as well and as long as it rained it was fine. Actually better than it had been back home. There was one day that was BRUTAL though, no rain. Take breaks just like you would at home when it gets really hot and you will be fine. We did not find the crowds really bad honestly. There is a link in my siggy to my TR which was 7/30 to 8/6.

I have to agree with Gina though it was more crowded than when we were there in Nov. We knew what we were doing and I had researched a lot for this trip. It was however the trip my "Disney hating" husband decided we could retire there and he fell in love with the mouse. So as long as you do it right I think it is possible to have a good trip. IE don't wing it on an Aug trip ... it is not a good idea. ;)

I like August too but I prefer the 2nd-3rd week.

I went in July last time & the crowds & heat were worse IMO.

Growing up we went the last few days of July, first week of August quite often & never had a problem with the heat but we go tot he park early & leave mid day to swim/rest/shower/etc.. and head back to the park later that day.

This year I am going the first week to the 2nd week of August because I was able to safe $30 pp on airfare (which is $150).

The heat & humidity don't bother me much either since it gets quite humid here in CT in the summer.

We are going August 1st - 10th. My DS is bring 5 of his friends with him to celebrate their High School graduation and before they all go their separate ways to college. We are going to stay 2 nights at Swan then transfer to a GV at OKW. I can't wait. We usually don't head to the parks till after dinner, when it is cooler, and we take advantage of the EMH.

DH and I always go end of August to beginning of September.
Last year we went Aug 17-23 and took the kids. It was hot but it doesn't really bother us. Crowds were very managable. We didn't get any rain that week.

Many of you say how hot and crowded it is in August, but what about the love bugs? Are they unbearable as well? We were there in mid-sept 2006 and there was a love bug invasion.

The Love Bugs come out in May and September. We were at WDW last August and didn't see any. We didn't witness any large crowds either (we were there the last week of August). Hot it definitely was! LOL!

Thanks for the input!:flower3:

thanks everyone lovin' all the advice!! so watchout - I will have a million questions im sure! :D I will be booking later today!

I think the humidity is what we thought was the worst about August. Your clothes all get soaked in the humidity and just won't dry--even in the A/C. Bring extra clothes to change into. You will not want to stay in the same clothes all day.
