Disney in August- HOT ??

Unless you are only going to water parks or a water front resort (ala: Vero Beach) than I would BANK YOUR POINTS!:goodvibes

Hi

I've traveled to Disney 2 times in late August. It is very hot and humid. Try to to go the parks early in the morning....head to the resort and enjoy the pool mid day and head again to the parks in the evening....it is manageable if you plan your days well. The pools are great and refreshing in August!

Enjoy!

AUGUST + DISNEY = LOVE

Bring it on baby!!!! I LOVE it hot.... I look forward to my summer trips to Disney.....but I'm a native that's been sentenced to due time in Ohio.

OK.... I just cancelled my aug. trip. After hearing all the confirmation about the heatwave, i can honestly say, i wussed out. Im afraid my 2 year old my not be able to handle it. Gonna change it to December and i guess i will take the inlaws to niagara falls or something.
Thanks for all your input.

Yeah, of course it's hot, but you can still have a great vacation. We've taken most of our WDW trips in August over the past 10 years or so. We do most of our touring in the early morning and evening, spending the middle of the day at the pool or resting in our room or catching a movie at DTD. The often-daily thunderstorms add some fun as well.

We carry water bottles (frozen overnight) and sometimes bring a mister. At most parks, there are air-conditioned attractions where you can easily cool off. Animal Kingdom is the one park where it seems very warm, but the theaters are now enclosed there, so that should help.

There are worse things than Disney in August!:lmao:

We're one of the few nutcases that loves Disney in August (well the last week any way)
1) parks are open very late. This means we go to a park in the early morning & then cool off at the pool or water park during the heat of the day.

2) less crowds than June or July. Since I have h.s. students I don't pull them out of school for a vacation.

We went last November for Jersey week and it was freezing!! We hated it because it was too cold to swim and we had to wear jackets, then it was doubly cold in the restuarants.
We're sticking with the heat.

we always go in August.. yes its hot..
and i dont love the hot weather.. but we have a great time!

Everything is so well airconditioned.. its fine..

It is quite the experience, Orlando in the summer, if you are not used to it. You have summer vacation crowds combined with very humid, hot air. It is very easy to get tired and weak and overheated.

However, it can be done and you can have a good time, but it takes a little more effort. I'll add my suggestions, along with the others, as to how you can still enjoy yourself.

1) Planning! As already suggested, planning some kind of "rest" time during the hotest hours of the day makes a huge difference. Go back to the resort pool, have a long lunch, something indoors, whatever. Do Parks early morning and evenings. Get fastpasses in the morning for when you come back that night.

2) Water, Water, Water. You cannot wait until you are thirsty, that is too late. You have to be drinking water constantly. I would bring enough for AT LEAST one bottle per hour per person. If you stay fully hydraded, it's amazing how much better you feel throughout the day.

3) clothing. Wear light, breathable, loose-fitting clothes. It helps if they dry quickly, like swimwear. This also allows you to get wet on strategically timed rides throught the day which can help a lot.

4) Hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen. This is self explanitory.

* Frozen handtowels & washcloths w/ ice cubes in the bag to keep them cool--most refreshing thing. (Reapply sunscreen afterwards)

Camelbaks are wonderful way to carry water.

We had 2 misters for a family of 4 & 2 personal fans--to minimize fighting.

Plan to hit some of the inside attractions regularly to get in the a/c & a break from the sun.

Late breakfast/early lunch at a buffet to get a break from the sun. Our rule was everyone had to drink a glass of water before they could have any other drinks or food.

I've done August twice & now go in June. It's not as humid.

Make it work for you w/ preparation & vigilance w/ water. Have fun!

I usually take my vacations in August due to my son being in school. It is very very hot. Like others have said before me, drink plenty of water, take afternoon breaks by scheduling a TS sit down meal indoors or take a noontime break at the resort pool. I also like to plan certain attractions at the very hot parts of the day, like Hall of Presidents. It is so nice and cool in there, you can't help but take a little nap. :rolleyes1

Birmingham, Atlanta, Mobile, or my personal home in Fairhope...July and August are hot hot hot. As the other posters said, go early in the day; visit air-conditioned venues as needed; retreat to a pool or water park when the heat starts to get unbearable; and return to the parks as the sun sinks slowly in the west. Certainly beats being at work, out in the weather in a bullet-proof vest, at home...or even in a l/s shirt and tie. (Don't do the vest anymore - retirement is a lovely thing.)

I was there in July a few years ago and I was miserable. I imagine that August would be about the same. Dh and I will never go from May-Sept/Oct. We went in Oct last fall and it was still too hot for me in the 80s. We're going in Jan 09, I can't wait for those cooler temps.

We went to WDW in August a couple of years ago, and we vowed...NEVER AGAIN! We were in the MK, walking out of Tomorrow Land onto MainStreet. We had one of the customary afternoon summer downpours. Once it stopped, the heat kicked right back in. We stood there and watched the water on the cement pavement begin condensation and steam was rising into the air in front of our eyes. It was the Tropical Rain Forest effect. HOT, HOT HOT, BEYOND HOT.

Nope, we'll be on the beach somewhere in August from now on. We liked WDW in Spring. Ahh, the breeze was heaven.

Good luck if you dare it. Take it slow.

That's what I was afraid of.... therefore, I canceled...

Yes, it's very hot and HUMID in August, but if you can get a room at the Beach Club, then you will definitely enjoy your stay! We stayed at BVC during our last August trip and it was a blast - we all had a great time in the pool in the afternoon and then by evening, we were ready to head out again! I'm sure this is the same as many other Disney pools, I just LOVE that sand bottom!:thumbsup2

Now granted it was our first DVC trip but we still loved the trip. Sure it was hot hot hot but it is HOT HOT HOT here in MD too. So.....we went early to the parks, out around lunch time and headed back to the resort to chill indoors or hit the pools. WE went back at night some nights. We enjoyed the trip and we are going mid July this year for 12 hot days LOL. We have been in Nov. 3 times, Jan. 3 times, May 2 times and our first trip was also in July, but IT IS WDW...........so we would rather be hot at Disney than hot at home.

I won't set foot in the state of Forida in August. Not a chance. Not in June, or July, either. Probably never again in September, (did that once and it was HOT.)

This will be the 3rd August in a row for me to travel at the end of August....Like so many other posters it is a school related issue for my nieces/nephews whom I am taking and for me it is an easier time of year for me to have off of work.:cutie:
It is hot. Yes, very hot but not unbearable and we manage like so many others do by going in the am and evening and then taking a break mid-day. Since this is a first time visit for my nephews hopefully they won't notice the heat and just be so excited that they won't care! :rotfl: :rotfl: I have gone in July too and it seems just as hot then and much busier as well.

I won't set foot in the state of Florida in August. Not a chance.

Not in June, or July,
I will not drive, I will not fly.

Going to Florida, I will not.
I will not go when its hot.

Seeing the mouse will not be
Neither will I see Hook or Smee :)

September again was too hot
Go again, I will not.

That leaves Winter time I know
I guess I'll see pixie dust instead of snow.

I won't set foot in the state of Florida in August. Not a chance.
I will go in January, with pixie dust, and I will dance.

I'm not much of a poet, but your post reminded me of Dr. Seuss.
