disney hotels have doctors who will make "house" calls, right?

I think I've read something that WDW has a list of doctors that can be contacted that may come on the property. Also if you have a medical issue, let the front desk or a park CM know and if needed they will help get you somewhere if the issue requires it. Of course if it's a true emergency dial 911..

Not Disney doctors but the front desk can locate a house call physician if needed. It's not cheap but if you have to have one come it's available. There are also pharmacies available that deliver to the resorts, also for a fee.

We had to have the Concierge folks call one a couple of years ago...he showed up within the hour and stayed for two hours, until granddaughter was feeling better. I forgot how much it cost, but it was a good sum. However, at the time it was worth every penny.

I got sick on my honeymoon in 2006 and had a dr. come to my room. It was $200. They also had a pharmacy that delivered right to the resort.

Last June it was $250 to call a doctor to the room. My son had a fever, ear infection and sore throat from sinus drainage. Thank goodness for trip insurance! We did get a list from the front desk of doctor clinics that visit rooms and ones that you can travel to if needed.

Some companies that do the house calls also have a nice assortment of meds on them. If they can not get your prescription filled on the spot, they'll have it delivered to you the same day.

Really 'enjoyed' this total package service, not having to leave my room and wait somewhere for a long time but have the comfort of my "own" bed and bathroom and have the doc in the room in an hour. Got a phonecall about 15 minutes prior to that to inform me doc would be there in 15 minutes.

Ended up having them come over twice. For both consults, meds, tests and the work it ended up costing somewhere in the $300-400 range. The company I used provided me with a standardized form on which they fill out your personal info, diagnosis etc, and it states you needed the care, this spared the insurance an ER-visit what would've been considerably more expensive, please cover. Can't speak for all of you from the US as I'm not. I got all of it covered, but I always get all covered as part of a great health and travel insurance.

that pharmacy that delivers does NOT take insurance if you have prescription coverage. When we were there the clinic prescribed my dh three different meds that totaled over $3000 that we would have to pay for and get reimbursed. We took at taxi to a 24 hour Walgreens in Orlando ($80 cab ride round trip) and $6.00 copay for all three scripts.

Funny thing is when I called the delivery pharmacy they casually mentioned we would need to pay out of pocket. They went on to take all the information and give me and estimated time and then I asked how much it would be.... I just about fell over.

They would have been in for a surprise if they showed up at my door with that bill.

Ok I have to ask, my wife was a pharmacy tech at a supermarket and she can't think of a prescription that a GP doctor would prescribe for something that didn't require an Emergency Room visit that wold cost that much. :confused3

It was three prescriptions. He had what we think was H1N1 ~ he tested positive for the flu but this was in March of 09 so H1N1 was just getting started. He also had pneumonia. They gave him Tamiflu, some super strong antibiotic and one other thing I can't remember what it was. I'm telling it was highway robbery ~ I think because they knew we were captive. I knew it wasn't right.

ETA: He did go to Concentra care and they couldn't figure out how to use our prescription benefit. So sent him back with a script.

Slightly OT, but I thought I would share...

Our last trip, my 1 year old son got very sick around midnight. The shuttles to the urgent care weren't running anymore, and since he was having difficulty breathing, we called for an ambulance.
He was taken to a nearby hospital, and later transferred via ambulance to a children's hospital in downtown Orlando.
When he was discharged, we were concerned about how much it would cost to get him back to the resort via cab.

My husband checked at the front desk (CSR), and they agreed to pay the cab fare. It was $60.
Very nice touch, and just goes to show you that it pays to ask!

We leave in 2 weeks, and this time we're praying for a less eventful trip!

In addition, there is CentraCare, an urgent care facility which is very close to Downtown Disney. They will send a van to pick you up free of charge and they take most insurance. The front desk of your hotel will have a brochure with the details (and I hope you don't need them!)

Wow -- I hope he got better quick.

$250 actually sounds fairly reasonable for in-room medical care, even if it has to be paid out of pocket.

We have used the ambulance to the ER and driven to centracsre.

I had to take an ambulance in 2007. The Reedy Creek EMS picked me up and brought me to the Clebration Florida ER. The ambulance ride and the cab ride back were no charge to me. It was explained to me by the front desk that the resort guests were the residents of Reedy Creek and so a part of the taxes that we pay as guests paid for the service.

It was impressive to me.

2004 I was staying at the Grand Floridian when I became so ill I decided to find a physician (horrible healthcare at that time so it was a BIG decision). I ambled to the lobby at 3 am.

Front desk could not have been more helpful. Eventually we decided on the hospital in Celebration. They offered to drive me and suggested I call when I was ready to come back - someone would pick me up. Pancreatitus was diagnosed, checked out of Celebration Health AMA and flew home the next day to spend 2 weeks in our local hospital.

I will always remember how kind the castmembers were. We got a call later in the evening - same night castmembers returned to work and checked in with us to see if we needed anything.

The front desk people will do whatever you need to help.

To the folks that had a 'house call' was the $250 the charge for the doctor, or just the 'house call' part of it? Was it $250 plus the visit? or just $250. Also, was something like that covered under insurance (I'm sure if varies) since it wasnt an 'office visit'?

Four yers ago, $200 was the total charge, including the house call. I didn't try to get insurance to pay for it, so I don't know
