disney hotels have doctors who will make "house" calls, right?

To the folks that had a 'house call' was the $250 the charge for the doctor, or just the 'house call' part of it? Was it $250 plus the visit? or just $250. Also, was something like that covered under insurance (I'm sure if varies) since it wasnt an 'office visit'?

I had to have a doctor last September and the call out fee was $140, the cost for him coming to me was $20 extra. On top of that I then had antibiotics which he gave to me in room. I believe he was from Centra care and I was given the number by concierge, the doctor was very polite, quick to get to me (15 mins) and had a lovely bed-side manner.

1) There are several outfits in Orlando that do room calls.
2) But, they are expensive.
3) In fact, they pay a Concierge $50-$75 for recommending them.

We actually went to a clinic inside Epcot on our last visit and got a quick exam for our son, who had a weird cough. The only thing we had to pay for was the medicine.

I had to take my son to the doctor just last week while staying at AKL. I asked concierge and they gave me the address for Centra Care and told me there are doctors that would come to the hotel but they are very expensive. Well, CentraCare charged $299 just for the visit. Another 20 for the meds. I thought to myself that if Centra Care charges that much I couldn't imagine what a doctor to the hotel would charge. Now I read here that it is probably the same or cheaper. Wish I would have called a doctor directly first. Now I know better for next time.

2) depends on how you compare and what value you put on different services, pros and cons
3) I personally do not care one bit, it was totally worth it for the pros it got me. Actually had to push the concierge CM before getting this info. First offered; hospital, call yourself 911 and get an ambulance ride there (ehm, seriously!?). Next up; centra care. I pushed it a bit more, asking if there wasn't anything alike a GP-service, knowing that was all I'ld probably be needing anyway and am not 'into' doing any more ER-visits than I already have to. Voilà; there came the house-call options.

It will vary from individual to individual which medical service will fit their needs, wants, insurance and financial situation. IMHO there is no one right or wrong in this. If something works for a family; great for them! :thumbsup2 Do not change it, stick to what works for you!! For me the house-call service is the only way I will go whenever I can.

Total charge. he did have some antibiotics with him as well but we needed to get some children's motrin so we opted out.

Last trip I called private Md and got two RX's called in. Daughter said she drove just outside of gates and a pharmacy was RIGHT THERE. Now I would like saaaay nurses(am one) to be able to dispense muscle relaxers, pain meds, creams for soreness bandages, neosporin etc. and maybe baby benadryl for cranky babies/toddlers.:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

Don't know if you still need this information, but I was referred to "Physician Room Service" at 407-238-2000. They only charged $249 and that included everything but the medication which was only $17 and the doctor had it with him. It took less than an hour for him to get to the room and I was very impressed with the quality of the service.

In addition, there is CentraCare, an urgent care facility which is very close to Downtown Disney. They will send a van to pick you up free of charge and they take most insurance. The front desk of your hotel will have a brochure with the details (and I hope you don't need them!)

We used this for DD in 2008. Great transportation. Long wait at the center. Incompetent doctor. Didn't even recognize scarlet fever. Over $300.

I had one come see me in 2005 b/c I was very sick. The charge as around $280 plus medicine. She dignosed me with strep throat (WAY wrong) and gave me a zpack which was another $60 (and made my real illness much worse according to ER docs). I asked for a shot but b/c she was a nurse practicioner (which she nor the dispatcher I called to set up the appointment had not discoled to me up until this point when I asked about the shot) she could not give one in our room, said she could send out a real doctor and the shot would run me an injection fee and the actual medicine around another $180. She also prescibed me a throat rinse/gargle for my strep that was delivered by turner drugs (and again further complicated my recovery). They also told me they accepted my insurance and I could file it for reimbursement out of network expense when I got home, again wrong. Insurance didn't cover a dime.

It was a huge waste of money and didn't work out well for me at all. I got the doctor facility recommendation out of the UG. I will never have a Dr come to the room to visit me again. I will drag myself to urgent care or the ER in the future. The resorts offer a free shuttle to some Urgent Cares centers in the area.
