Disney hotel magical?

Hello all,

I'm giving a persuasive speech in my public speaking class and would like to get some feed back on a question about Disney magic.

Why is a Disney vacation more magical for you and your family when staying at a Disney hotel?

Please answer only if you agree, I just need a little bit of testimony. Also if your curious I think it's more magical for many reasons, themed hotels and pools, the cast members make you feel special and welcomed. The little touches every where to make you forget the real world. Disney transportation so you don't even have to see the real world. I could go on and on but I won't.

On a quick side note... When I was telling someone about all the good things Disney has to offer, an eavesdropper later asked if I had ever worked for Disney because I had almost convinced
him that he should plan a trip to Disney. BTW the original person did make plans to go after his daugther gets married this Sept.

i believe it has a lot to do with the effect of total immersion in the fantasy that disney works so hard to create. from the time you check in, till the time you check out (as long as you don't leave property to go other places) you are totally immersed in the 'fantasy'. everyone you meet/talk to is in character, and hopefully that feeling stays with you your entire stay. that is what makes it so magical for us. in our experience, the bus drivers have been some of the most amazing 'characters' at disney, making the ride a pleasure rather than a chore. i just can't say enough nice things about staying on property. your hotel gives you a feeling of being on an exotic vacation in a fantasy land, i just don't think you can touch that at some of the off-property locations.

One thing I would like to add: as soon as we drive onto Disney property, we feel as if we are in a whole other world. The hotel themes are beautiful and no little detail seems to be overlooked. I always charge to my room so I don't need to carry creditcards, a wallet or money. While you will always come across a few people with attitudes, most of the people you meet seem happy and courteous. And, of course, when you stay at a Disney hotel you really do feel like you are in the middle of all the magic (it's a cliche I know). Hope this helps! good luck on your speech.

Interesting question I agree that the main factor as stated is the "total immersion in the fantasy ". I would like to expand on that theme. I think Disney pays alot of attention to the music that is played in the resorts. Stay at the WLV for a few days and that theme music in the background gets into your heart. You actually miss it after the trip is over. Music of shows like Fantasmic are unique and unforgrttable.

Its the Disney music in movies like Beauty and the Beast that make a movie a sucess or a failure like Treasure Planet.

There is just something about a Disney Hotel.........What???
Well, I think if varies from family to family. For ours not only is it the Theming, Cast Members or the Transportation. There is an overall warmth and home feeling that you get so quickly after you get into your "Home away from Home". For Deluxes, the overwhelming child like giddy feeling when you can see the Magic Kingdom from your balcony. A symbol of childhood that we all recognize as fun, loving and bring back memories of family or wishes of a vacation you always wanted as a kid. To finally be at a place that either makes a wish come true or reminds you of fond memories is sureal. For those who have been Fortunate enough to have been, a feeling of TRULY forgeting the Real World and reliving the child that we all have in us. Even though we are reliving our inner child we enjoy our stays with our children as if it was the first time. The Disney Resorts offer a feeling of excitement, warmth and transform us to another place. Everyone dreams of leaving their present life even if just for a few days and the Resort is where is starts. They greet you with a warm "Welcome", into a "theme" that may resemble our own homes or homes we wished we had. They may just be "Hotel" rooms to the "Non-Believer", but for us "Believers" we allow ourselves to taken away. The fact that most of the Resorts have ammenities that we all wish we had at our fingertips or do, makes us feel more relaxed. The pools, the landscaping, the views, the fun (hidden mickeys) and events that you are offered without ever having to leave your resort all ties us in. Just flipping through the tv channels reminds you where you are and allows you to get tied up in the fun things going on instead of hunting for the News, Stock Market Closings, Current events and Weather. Face it...The weather is always great whether it's sunny or raining because you are at Disney World and there is always something fun to do. For our family Money is always an issue, but for something we ALL truly love we will hunt for the best deals and make it possible to go where we enjoy our stays. Disney seems to have touched on every element to appeal to those who love reliving childhood or creating memories from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. For our family it truly starts when you pass through the Walt Disney World sign that covers the roadways in and out of Disney. It's at that point you can forget the Mortgage, Car Payment, Bills, Activities and just GET AWAY! The Resorts play a huge factor to us. To some a room is a room, but if they let themselves get carried away they might see what some of us do.
I would love for everyone to feel the way I do when I am there.
I know I can't but I wish.

I know a lot of people who disagree with me on this but here goes.... for me, the hotel I stay in has to feel special, a part of the vacation feel whether I am at Disney or somewhere else. I look for hotels/resorts that will compliment and enhance the vacation. When I am away from home I like to feel as far from the everyday as possible. Heck, when I go to my in-laws I stay at Red Roof Inn and that's not what I want to feel when I am at Disney! I have stayed at CR, Poly and BWI, all added something so special to my trip.

BTW, when I was a kid and WDW was pretty new, my parents took us there and we stayed at CR, I remember a tower room cost $100 ! Us kids thought we were in the world's most special, exclusive hotel and it was designed for kids! I think that stay hooked me on Disney magic for life. The resort was as great as MK. My DH was very ho-hum on Disney until I "forced" him to book our first family trip at the Poly, lagoon view and that hooked him!

I feel the same way. I'm the oldest person in my class and I know all these 19 and 20 somthing students will say "this woman's obsessed," but I don't care. DH and I are also always planning our next trip to WDW. I get a little pang in my tummy just reading these posts. I'm convinced it's what keeps us young!

I will agree with what everyone else has said but add something too. When we stay on a disney property it is just an extension of the parks themselves. I was always excited after we left the parks and couldn't wait to get back to the room to see what the mousekeepers did with our stuffed animals that day. They had my giant ?Minnie Mouse riding a ballon motorcycle one day. Another day, Donald, Goofy, Daisy and Stitch were witnesses to Mickey and Minnie getting married. And the list went on and on. Then just taking a stroll around the grounds to wind down after the day. It is all just so "magical". There really is no other way to describe it.

I have nothing to add but have really enjoyed reading why you all think staying "on site" is great.

Ok, so maybe I will add this:

Disney works so hard to make us all happy and immerse us in it's magic. Whether you believe it is magical or not, look into a childs eyes. That is satisfaction for me! Just being away from the hustle and bustle of every day life with no worries on property is my key. Hakuna Mattata!

Since I lived in Orlando and understand the traffic, it can be very stressful and frustrating and having EVERYTHING right at your fingertips is great. Sure, food may be more but it saves me the headaches of chosing where to go once in the car. We are already there and have variety if one of us doesn't want this or that!

EVERYTHING that everyone has said is true, but the thing that sums it all up for me is a CM was talking to my 2 year old last summer when we asked how much a particular activity would cost for him and the CM stated, "Oh, he's a guest of Mickey's. It doesn't cost him a thing!" They make Mickey real. And staying there makes you believe he's real too.

I am also a "non-traditional" college student, and wonder sometimes what those kids think of that lady with the Disney backpack, Mickey Mouse watch, WDW t-shirts, Minnie Mouse antenna ball, Tinkerbell window decal, and "Been there, done that, going back" license plate frame on her minivan.

I have to agree with what the other posters have said, it's that total immersion and attention to detail that draws us back. Our first trip was supposed to be the "trip of a lifetime" but my DH was so taken in by the magic we'll be going on trip #3 soon. It's really the only place I see him completely relaxed without a care in the world, with a gleam in his eye just like he's a kid again. We truly feel like we have left the real world behind when we are there.

I find this so hard to explain to other people at times. They wonder why we keep going back.....haven't we seen it all already? I think you have to experience it to know, and not all that visit will catch that magic.

I loved reading all these posts too, so I thought I'd add something.

Disney understands the details that create a seamless atmosphere. When you're in a Disney resort--or at a Disney park--there's (usually!) nothing that reminds you of any world other than Disney World. It's like you're in a film where you can't see the technical support (lighting, cameras, backlot, etc.)--so you feel as though you are actually IN the environment and not PRETENDING to be there.

Disney's aesthetic sense is nearly always perfect--Main Street is their prototypical total environment with everything designed to achieve a particular mood. It works beautifully. So do most of the WDW resorts. They pay very close attention to the colors, textures, architecture, objects, layouts, and proportions of everything...and this doesn't even begin to touch upon the cms. They're not even called "employees" but instead they're "cast members"...and so are you, although you don't have a script, except to enjoy yourself. In that way, being at WDW really IS like being in a film--where you get to be your relaxed self, the supporting cast does all the "work," and the environment you're in constantly exudes just the right aura. When you go off-site, the mood dissipates or disappears completely. On-site, the mood never lets up.

At our YC stay in June,we came back from the parks one night and there was balloons and a character picture for my girls signed by Mickey. They are 4 and 6 and to them it was awesome. To me it was pure magic to see their faces. this doesn't happen elsewhere.
