Disney Honeymoon

Hey all!

So my fiance and I are getting married March 2015 and it has always been a dream to go to Disney Florida. We decided, as long as finances allow, what better time to go than to celebrate our marriage. We have a few questions as we have never been before and hoping people that have could share some information. We are pricing with Thomson and we are surprised at the cost, we were expecting it to be a lot more expensive than it is coming up as. We are looking at going for 3 weeks if possible but may have to limit it to 2 weeks because of fiance's work. I'm currently a student teacher and most likely to be doing supply work so can be flexible with my time off etc. We are looking at getting the Disney 21 day ticket to make sure we cover ourselves the Orlando Flex Ticket. The time of year is something we are debating, originally we were looking at April but we are wondering whether to go later in the year to allow for more time for us to save to pay it off and for spending money. We wouldn't want to go any later than July if possible. What would be the time of year that you would recommend going? There really isn't too much of a price difference between April and June/July so that's not too much of an issue. Also, in terms of spending money, we understand that as this holiday would be a luxury, we need to limit our spends as much as we can. There are certain things we want to do like swimming with dolphins and get a few souvenirs here and there. Our biggest costs will be the food, now we're not particularly into expensive and fancy meals and enjoy simple baguettes/sandwiches/chips/burgers etc so will be eating on a budget with maybe one or two extra special meals as it is our honeymoon after all :)

Also, in terms of where to stay, we have priced the hotels such as All Star etc, the 'budget' hotels so to speak as a fancy hotel isn't important to us. Just spending the Honeymoon here is what is important. Would anybody recommend any other hotels or maybe villas or anything other than what we have priced? We are looking for some advice with this also as previously mentioned, we have never been so don't know what is good value for the money or the better places to stay.

Any recommendations that anybody has would be greatly appreciated, we simply don't know where to start with costs or plans!

Thanks very much!

Congrats, we got married in disney and stayed at coronado springs, we have stayed in many of the resorts and if hotels dont matter i would go with pop century over the all stars

If you are firm with wanting to go between April and July, then I would opt for May. April will still be Spring Break time in the US and June/July is getting into the hot and humid weather and the increased crowds for the American school holidays.

I know you say you aren't bothered about a fancy hotel but I would recommend pricing up a studio at Saratoga Springs or Old Key West, as these resorts will provide a slightly more grown up experience. I know you can't get away from kids at Disney World but, to me, the value resorts are really aimed at families with young children. Alternatively, Port Orleans French Quarter, a moderate resort, might be nice. It is very beautiful.

You might want to reconsider your ticket choices too. Even if you're staying for 2 weeks, while the Flex Ticket and Disney Ultimate tickets might seem the most convenient method, if you're on a budget then individual tickets for the parks that you really want to visit might be more economical. For example, you mention wanting to swim with dolphins. If you plan to visit Discovery Cove, you get entry to Sea World included as standard with your Discovery Cove ticket so it would be a waste to be paying for that in the cost of the Flex ticket too.

In terms of spending money, it will really depend on whether you're planning to rent a car as, if not, you will need to consider the cost of transport to the non-Disney parks. And, if you are renting a car, you need to budget for parking costs.

As far as food is concerned, we don't do fancy either. I would imagine that $100 per day would be more than enough for meals and drinks.

Feel free to ask any other questions you have :)

ETA: I know it can be tempting to book a package because it seems easy but consider looking at pricing things up individually too. If you are able to go at non-peak times (i.e. avoiding school holidays), flights should be relatively cheap and you could save money by booking things individually.

Thanks very much for the replies so far! :)

We will definitely check out some more hotels. We are clueless so not sure what we should be expecting from them. If we were to book it all 'DIY' so to speak, could you recommend who to look for flights with and where to look for the hotels?

If we were to book a package deal, car hire comes included. However, I don't know how confident my fiance would feel driving in America and I haven't passed my test yet.

Thanks again :)

Congratulations. DH and I honeymooned at Disney in 2010, it was our once in a life time trio. We're hoping to book trip number 4 next week!

You'll get great advice here. We stayed at Pop, we don't have kids and we thought it was great. Port Orleans is lovely too, the French Quarter is small and I think the grounds are lovely and quite romantic.

Are you having a gift list or anything, have you thought about suggesting something towards the honeymoon?

If you are going to stay onsite if you wait a week or so then Disney's offer for next year should come out and if you book a moderate hotel you'll get free quick service dining included and if you aren't going to drive eating onsite will be easier. POFQ is a lovely hotel so that might be a good choice.

Congratulations on the wedding, we married in Disney and honeymooned there and it was great.

Hiya.
I'm you... Except a year ahead haha!

We got married on 29th March this year and are disneymooning in May (only to avoid the massive price hike at Easter)

My advice is, if you can afford it, go for a moderate hotel. We're doing Coronado Springs because it looks gorgeous and is also the cheapest of the Mod resorts.

If you can, hop on board the free Quick Service DDP. We then upgraded to the regular one so we can have some nice sit down meals included, it worked out as £15 pppd. We're excited about trying out all the restaurants we've never tried before, without cash flow being an issue.

We also benefitted from the $200 disney dollar gift card, which at certain times they give away for free!

Also as it's your honeymoon, perhaps book something extra special? We opted for Discovery Cove (that once in a lifetime thing, we happen to be doing again haha)

Enjoy planning, it's the fun part!

We honeymooning at disney as well going in September we get married June so going after to miss the summer holidays. We not staying on site we stay at rosen inn at pointe Orlando & hiring a car we there for 28 nights we doing disney the first 2 weeks then doing other the parks the next 2 weeks but we more then likely do day trips back to disney.

You may actually find that a Moderate would suit you guys better than a value if you can get free dining. You get two meals and a snack per day, which really helps pay for the additional cost of a Mod.

If you're not too bothered about that then booking separately is a good way to go - Expedia have some great room only rates and you can usually get an additional 10% back if you book through a Cashback website. We always get Cashback on flights too - we've got around £300 of free Cashback doing it that way which will pay for our universal tickets :)

Congrats! We got married 2 weeks ago and are planning our honeymoon for the end of May. We're a little behind on our planning so it's good you've got a head start, especially when it comes to dining reservations! I went for my bachelorette and stayed at All Stars and it is definitely louder and more kid friendly than the moderate or deluxe resorts so I would also recommend maybe doing Port Orleans - it's a little more adult and romantic.

We have done the Deluxe dining plan in the past but after doing A LOT of math opted to forgo it this time. We decided if we eat the way we really want it wouldn't add up to the daily cost of the plan. We're basically doing a signature meal and a quick service a day, and prior to tax/tip and alcoholic beverages we're looking at about $100 to $150 a day vs the $220 a day with the plan. But this depends if there is the free dining plan, which we wouldn't be eligible for anyway because we're using the in-laws Disney vacation club points.

Also, Southwest by far has the best deals and you don't have to pay to check luggage.

You do realise you are posting in the UK trip planning forum don't you, so a lot of your advice (such as flying Southwest) wouldn't necessarily be relevant to the OP :)

Thanks so much for all of your very helpful replies! I have noticed the free quick service dining plan is on sale now with the $200 gift voucher. The price for 21 nights, with the 21 day Ultimate ticket from disneyholidays.co.uk at the Disney Caribbean Beach Resort is £3683. Would we be able to get flights for the total price under £5000? I have no idea who to search with for flights etc. Any tips?

I'd suggest Virgin as a complete package as I prefer their flights.

Otherwise I think you can get good deals on Thomson flights. Look up SunshineStacey on Hot UK Deals, she rounds up some great deals on flights and packages.

Happy planning!

I agree with Wilma-bride, May is a lovely time of year to go and also re the flex tickets; don't forget you have two fab water parks already included in the cost of your Disney tickets :)

If you are planning to stay on-site then having a car is not that much of an issue, especially if you are planning to do a lot of Disney! the Disney buses that run from hotel to Parks and to DTD are a great way to get around. We didn't have a car for the majority of our 2010 trip while staying on-site and found it ok. We hired a car for the odd day or so or got a taxi from the hotel when we ventured off-site. This may not work for some, but as we had been before and were happy spending most days at Disney exploring with our 3 yo, it worked for us :)

Hotel wise, again if on-site appeals to you then I would compare a value versus a moderate. With 'free' dining offers for 2015 it may work in your favour to go for a moderate and have 2 meals, 1 snack per day as opposed to a value with free breakfast and paying oop for food. Whatever you decide upon you'll have a great time :goodvibes
