We are not DVC owners but have rented from DVC rental store. We are considering going to HH next February for something different. What is the best way to get from the Savannah airport to Disney HH? Uber/shuttle/taxi? Also, is DVC HH the best in terms of what you get for the cost and do they have a shuttle to local shopping/restaurants? Thank you!

Distance wise, the Savannah airport is around 45 miles from the resort. Uber/Lyft will likely run $70 to $100 or more depending on vehicle size needed, time of day, demand, etc.

The only shuttle provided by the resort is to the beach.

If you aren't DVC owners, look into the other resorts at HHI - Marriott and others - don't just limit yourself to DVC. They're likely to be less expensive than DHHIR, just as nice or nicer, not to mention being oceanfront as well. That's the reality of HHI.

When we went to HHI we rented a car to drive from Savannah to HHI.

I'd be surprised if anyone who's been to HHI DVC resort would recommend not needing a car. The only onsite dining is QS, out side, and if I remember, its closes at 4:00 or 5:00 in February. There's limited dining within close walking, and as one who did take out back to our room during Covid, it gets old. You want to go out. Anyone else agree or disagree about a car?

I've been to HHI many times and have always had a car. I can't imagine NOT having a car. So many of the excellent dining options are not within walking distance and don't offer a shuttle. My family and I also drives to the beach house since we bring a cooler onto the beach.

I agree with everyone else. I cannot imagine not having a car on HHI. We always drive there in our own vehicle, but if that isn't a viable option you will need to rent a car. There are a few restaurants within walking distance, and while some are quite good I wouldn't want to limit myself to them.

Agree with the others that having a car is a far better option than relying on other means to get around the island, particularly if the weather is cool and rainy which is always possible that time of year. If you do Uber in from Savannah, then you'll have that same option to get around HHI for fairly reasonable fees after you arrive. If the weather is good, then walking or biking is definitely an option, as well, and as a couple have mentioned, there are a few solid to good restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk or bike ride. During the summer, there is a free shuttle that HHI itself (not Disney) provides; however, it doesn't run during off season. As for is Disney "best for what you get for the cost" query, that's complicated. Disney has almost always been more expensive than other resorts in a straight up comparison; however, Disney banks on the fact that people want a touch of the Mouse. I've stayed at three other places besides DHHIR, and each had its pros and cons. If you want that Disney feeling, then money becomes less of an issue, and there will be plenty of onsite activities to keep you busy there. However, if you're simply looking to check out the island a bit more as a vacation destination, some place like the Marriott that sits right on the beach might be more attractive. Good luck with your decision!

You will want a car. And while Disney's HHI resort is really nice - it isn't near the beach, and there are a lot of really nice places to rent around HHI for cheaper at that time of year. Disney's resort on HHI isn't overwhelmingly Disney, I've been multiple years during the period you are going and there aren't character meet and greets or anything. The pool has a slide and there is generally one or two (paid) craft activities for kids a day, which repeat a lot. Disney runs a shuttle to their beach house, but only their beach house - at HHI's own shuttle system is pretty sparse (if running at all) at that time of year.

HHI in February isn't swimming weather and when we are there, in our mid 50s, we feel YOUNG! Our young adult son joined us and was really young. The Disney resort will have some kids - some of the other resorts won't have anyone under 40 at that time of year. Its really a place of snowbirders (mostly for Ohio, for some reason, HHI is where Ohio snowbirds). There is little for kids to do on the island except the beach and pools - which in February (it looks like your DD is about nine).

Thanks. I think we will look elsewhere to save some money. DD will be 11.

That's the same feeling we used to get when we were there the first full week of December during Shadow's meet and greets in Big Murgie's Den and stay for the following week. The difference between the 2 weeks was amazing! The first week, I was the oldest in the Den; the next week I was the youngest.
