Disney has something HUGE happening! It's OFFICIAL...post #1

I think he's feverish--better check ;)
I like the way you think! I'd try the same thing!:thumbsup2

If the bday promotion is going on I would think you could get both---don't you get the birthday prize at a park?

That would be great...I think you could get a free 1 day park ticket, a gift card for the value of a ticket, or some king of gift...but I don't think it starts till March, ...I can't find the details on it now. It would be great id I could get the gift card, though..that plus the $200 gift card mentioned in a pp would give us quite a few CS meals:woohoo:

my biggest problem is that we really can't afford to go till later in the year, if at all, but this is such a great offer, if it is true.

I don't think the bday card is good for food: (from the disney website)

A birthday fun card in an amount equal to the price of a 1-day Magic Your Way base ticket* for you to use on your birthday for merchandise, recreation or fun activities at select participating locations at Walt Disney World® Resort; or
A special birthday FASTPASS® badge+ for certain attractions at the Theme Park you visit on your birthday; or
A 1-day Magic Your Way base ticket for you to use any time until your next birthday.

I haven't ever been to Disney with my two kiddos ages 12 and 10 or my husband, but this may be the deal that does it. Is there anyone that can give me a barebones ballpark figure of how much a cheap, cheap, cheap trip would cost for a family of 4 for a week or so? Or could you direct me to a person to talk to? I am overwhelmed by all of the aconyms and am not sure of where to begin. I have been a subscriber to Mousesavers for two years now and have really just been waiting in the wings.:) hoping that something might pop up. I live in Ohio and know that airfare and all that will have to be booked seperate...I just get "deer in the headlights" thinking about all of the things you guys put in your posts...passes, hoppers, dining passes, drinks, characters, :headache: . Anyone with a lil bit of patience?

Wow...this really has me thinking. We really can't afford it until later in the year, but we could really save a lot of $$ with that deal. I'll have to bug DH and see what happens. I priced it out and we can do a full week with this deal in Feb (and DS would only miss 4 days of school) VS 4nts in Dec.... But we would have to put it on the CC if we did it in Feb, vs saving till Dec.
Sure, but you could have that CC charge paid off by December using your old plan.
ETA: The dates I picked for Feb are over my B-Day...I wonder if I can get the gift card for that with this deal too....I don't think the 2009 B Day thing starts till March, though.
The birthday deal starts 1/1/09, so I don't know why you wouldn't be able to use it. The birthday deal is not tied to staying in a resort. You basically just show your ID at a park's will call window and you're set.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. When they did same offer this back in 2003, we had absolutely NO plans to go to Disney. Daughter was starting college in the fall, but we decided it was too good a deal to pass up. We didn't know for sure how we'd pay for it and college, but we said we should go. So I booked in May and we kept it quiet until August.

You can always price out a trip on www.disneyworld.com

I'd be more than willing to help you. We can do it through PMs though, so we don't take up space here.

I'll PM (private message) you. :teeth:

Does anyone think it will be better than what they are offering for AP holders for the beginning of the year?

On that program rooms are about 40% of rack rate.So a moderate room that is usually 149.00 a night is 89.00.

The discounts are comparable. 40% off (AP) to 42% off (this offer: must book 4 days to get 3 free), the big differences are the dates, the $200 gift card and the possibility that you may need to book this as a package... if you have an AP, although you can save the passes for the future, you might not want to dish out the extra $$$ for something you're not using now.

I wasn't really planning on going until 2010 or 2011 but now with this possible "deal" I may have to go next year. My son will be 1 in May. I may have to do some really good talking tonite to convince DH to go. We've never travelled with little children before (I took my 12 yr old cousin once) so we aren't sure how we are going to handle the whole plane thing and all the parks with someone so little. Oh well, I guess we'll have to learn along the way. :rotfl:

Ok, so I'm already plotting!

DH and I have been saving to take my parents on a vacation, and we could totally afford it already if this rumor comes true!!

I've already talked to DH, and I think we're going to do a reservation under his name, on his card and another reservation under my name, on my card. (We're newlyweds, and I haven't been able to change my name yet.)

SO excited!!! :yay: :yay: :yay:

I am sure someone has done the math and can help me out. It seems nice, but not like a spectacular deal if you are booking for the second half of the booking period. The ticket difference is so nominal once you start adding on days so that doesn't factor in for me. The real savings is the hotel room. It is like getting a 43% discount off of rack rate.

What am I missing?

Can you book room only and get the $200? We will probably be having APs.

I think it is a good deal if you can do room only.

My wife and I had joked about going the last week of March since it would hit both of our birthdays (and get us each a gift card to spend.) Now throw in an additional 200 gift card and it gets to be a little less of a joke... hmmm

No one even knows if this is the deal until it is officially announced this afternoon.

Yup, I realize that. I guess I should have asked if historically, was it required to buy tickets also.

from all the unofficial information out there that I have read so far..it is not available for room only...it is a package discount only.

My take is that if it ends up being just the room/pass disccount, that it would be a GREAT deal for folks who are already booked and/or planning for that time anyway. Clearly it would be a nice savings on money that was already spent.
However, without free dining (or some other super secret perk;) ), it isn't a good enough deal to get me to book an additional, unplanned vacation for 2009 or pull in my Free Dining Sept 09 trip.

I have to admit, this sounds like it will be a good deal for those that take planned, week long vacations (speculating of course)...too bad they don't have something available for those of us who book smaller vacations at a time.

I'm afraid that the only time my teacher spouse and two kids could get off to do this deal are the Christmas and Spring Breaks - and the cost of airfare during those periods outweighs all potential savings in room/passes :guilty:
