Disney Gift Cards

Get a Discover It card. Cash back is doubled for the 1st year. 1st quarter this year is 5% back at wholesale clubs. Buy the discounted disney cards at Sam's if you are a member or at BJ's which does not require a membership. When comparing % discount keep in mind that Sam's charges for shipping and BJ's does not. Try using a cashback portal also. Most exclude gift card purchases but I've had sporadic luck. With the doubled 1st year and the wholesaler discount this is an easy 14%. Maybe 15 or 16% if you get a portal to pay. In my experience smaller purchases spread out have a higher success rate with the portals. If you want a discover IT pm me with an email and I'll send you a referral link. Easy $50 for both of us! Also keep an eye out for Amex offers that may be useful. The $10 back on $50 spend at best buy or Lowe's comes around occasionally and that's a 20% discount.

If you shop at Kroger, and use their fuel center gas, they often usually offer 4X fuel points a few times a year, so you could buy your gift cards then. Like others said, you then take the gift cards to Guest Services onboard at some point during your cruise and have them apply the amt to your account. We have done this for years, and between Kroger, Sams, and Target, we've saved some real money. With the cruise costing as much as it does, saving 5%-8% can help offset the cost a little, or basically pay for the hotel/food costs for us pre- and post-cruise. We use disneygiftcard.com to consolidate our smaller cards into larger amount cards.

We had the same idea that you had about giving our kids "spending money" in the form of a gift card for them to use on our first cruise, and, like others said, learned that the gift shop doesn't accept payment that way. Bummer, as we had given them each a gift card in their Easter baskets. Instead of giving our kids charging privileges, which we didnt want to do, we just had them shop with one of us parents. They still picked out what they wanted, and we just handled/supervised the charging of the item to our room. We were shopping in there with them anyway, as they were still on the younger side.

Last year, I was able to get double Amex points for purchases on bestbuy.com, and then get the Best Buy Rewards points as well. Didn't get the cards for cheaper directly, but benefitted more than just putting the booking all directly on the credit card.
