Disney Gift Cards from grocery store (Giant Eagle)

For any of you have who Giant Eagles, have you been able to use the gift cards to pay for your hotel stay at Disney World? It would be real awesome to get fuel perks for my hotel costs, but I'm paranoid of purchasing the gift cards and then have some strange thing happen and Disney doesn't accept them for hotel payment.

Yes you can use them to pay for your hotel. Check out the budget board there are alot of folks over there that often know of promos to get extra points/$ when buying them.

I hav en't used Giant eagle but ones from Meijer, Kroger, Disney store an d sam's club Yes. It's great saving money to go see mickey.

On our last trip, I paid for most everything with gift cards - DDP, souvenirs, Pirate League, etc....

I have done this each of my last four trips including the one on 2 weeks. We have a local chain GIANT EAGLE that has gift cards, and each $50 in GCs you buy you get 10 cents off a gallon of gas. Sometimes they double to 20 cents. Driving an F-150 with a 30 gallon tanks this really saves, I have gotten average 2-3 free tanks of gas this way for each trip $200-300 each time.
If you cancel they need to put the money back on the cards so don't discard them until you go, or they will put the money into escrow until your next trip if you reschedule.
When I book I always do it over the phone, something new is they can only take 2 GCs a day by phone, so just call in the next day and pay more.
I have never had a problem with this, even when I had 20 $100 cards I had to use(Giant Eagle was out of the $500s).

Yes,I used Disney giftcards that I bought at Giant Eagle to pay for my first trip in 2010 when I still lived in Pittsburgh. I wish they had Giant Eagle in Florida so we could do that now. Buying giftcards to get fuel perks is a great deal

Ive not done it with Giant Eagle but we reguarly do it with cards bought from Kroger or Sams. Never a single problem.

Thank you everyone for all the responses I live in Columbus, and here Kroger is still very competitive with Giant Eagle so we get 20 cents instead of 10 all the time. This is really awesome as we plan to drive down, so maybe we can even get all of our gas paid for

Keep in mind that you won't find Giant Gas stations the entire trip down. Gas stations tend to be very Regional. Sheetz in part of the Country, 7-11s and QuickTrips in another.


I do know that in person, Disney's system can sometimes only hand 3 forms of payment. (2 gift cards, and then cash or credit for the balance.). I don't know if it's related, but I could see maybe the system they use when you call having a similar limitation....ie 2 Gift Cards, and a code to indicate the rest will be paid off later.

This is a recent change. I paid for my upcoming trip in late August and I had to call back the next day to finish. When I paid for my trip lat May in March I could use over 10 $100 cards at once.

Just remember....KEEP THE GIFT CARDS!! If you use them to make payments on your room and for whatever reason you need to cancel, Disney will refund your $$ back to the original card #'s.

We paid $6000 worth for our past sept trip..even bought extras for tipping. Pais all SW airfare with them too!

I did this last year when they had 20 cents off per gallon for every $50 in Disney gift cards. I bought $750 worth and got a free tank of gas. Yes they take them just fine... get the larger amount cards though because it can take awhile to read off, however keep in mind that if you cancel it goes back onto the gift cards and you don;t get the money back per say....I paid with 5 gift cards

We actually save the cash, run over to Giant Eagle and purchase the gift cards (thank the Mouse for the $500 cards) put it on our Disney Visa (more reward dollars) then deposit the cash into the bank and pay our Visa bill. So we get the fuel perks and the reward dollars on Disney Visa. Works great!!

Nothing. It costs $500 for $500 gift card.

Usually before the Holidays they double the points. Sometimes they have airline cards too that can help.
I used my Disney Visa too for them and got even more rewards.

I regularly shop at GE. I got gas last night and I had accumulated $1.45 in fuel perks in the last month. I am single and don't buy alot of food, most of that came from "bonuses". For example, if you bought 4 Fiber One bar boxes this week (on sale $3 instead of $4 regular), you got a 20 cent bonus. I saved over $20 on my tank of gas, I paid $2.04 a gallon.

They recently had the double points for gift cards but it was only restaurants. I bought some Subway cards.
