Hoping someone here knows...I have friends that are renting points. They are going to get the dining plan as well, and I was wondering if they could pay for the dining plan with Disney Gift cards? I know that the owner has to pay for it, but he is going to do a three way call. Didn't know if they would accept the gift card as payment.

Thanks!

AFAIK they will. I sent my brother my GC information when I stayed with him (he owns at SSR) last June. He told me that it was no problem to pay for the dining plan with the cards.

I did this last December. We had a one night stay where we wanted the dining plan, and rather than doing the three-way call to MS, I just e-mailed the member the Disney GC number, and he booked it for us: easy, painless, and secure (I could have just sent him the money via Paypal, but got points for buying the gift card ...).

I assume it would be multiple gift cards? If so I'd let the owner know about the plan in advance. Hopefully the call can be set up so their part is taken care of and they can hang up and not have to wait out the whole payment process, because reading off a stack of gift card numbers is going to take significantly longer than processing one cc charge. If you order from the DisneyStore.com website, you can order gift cards in amounts of up to $500. Since we only had the dining plan for 1 night for 2A1C I ordered a $150 GC.

The only time you would have many GCs is if you were buying the GCs slowly over time, like the Target trick many use, just buy $50 GCs every time you shop til it builds up to a few thousand.

It use to be that Disney would only accept 3 GC per transaction. So you might what to check on that.

DVC is different than Disney Travel Company. But even DTC will accept numerous GCs as payment towards your reservation.

There has been so much discussion about the Target deal here lately I assumed that was probably why the OP's friends were using gift cards.

I would think processing one GC for payment would be no problem at all. But depending on the total amount due and how many GC's it would take to get there, it could be a bit of an imposition to ask someone else to sit through that whole process, if that's necessary. JMO

Your assumption makes complete sense.

However, if the OP's friend hasn't bought the GC's yet and just wants to do the dining plan for the GC's in order to avoid giving out their CC number to the person they're renting from (since usually most rentals are handled via PayPal), and also to still get some CC points, then ordering a single or a few large amount from the Disney store makes sense, so I thought I would put it out there since that was why we went with a large-value GC.

If you take the gift cards to a Disney Store, they will load all of them onto one gift card for you. I did it for our last trip and it was easy.
