Disney Gift Card Issue (long)

Glad it all worked out.

Why would you buy a GC with a CC to make a deposit rather than make the deposit with the CC?

:confused3 Maybe she had intended on using it as a gift and changed her mind:confused3.

When I paid my resort balance with Disney Gift cards, I was told to be sure to keep the cards in case I had to cancel. The CM told me then that balances were always charged back to whatever was used to pay for the item. (In this case resort ressie)

I am certainly hoping there are no problems, but I have my cards just in case!

I had purchased the gift cards as a way to save for the trip when I purchased them it was long before I made the reservation and I was still in the planning stages. I had a few gift cards and like some one had said I really had no plan on where I was using them... I had one that I used in August to purchase my meals... for me it was just a nice convenient way to save my money

I am sorry to say but you are out the money. Only the GC has the money. Take this as a learning experience.

Disney always returns the money to the same medium that you paid with. This is why I never pay for any trip deposit with a GC.

BTW if you use a GC to buy something at DTD and then return the item they put the money back on your GC. They have told me to keep the GC just in case I do a return.

I used a gift card as partial payment at DTD. The clerk said they recycle old gift cards so I let them keep the card that was used up.

I don't know what would have happened if I returned the items. I assume they would have just issued a new gift card for that portion of my return.

That's not just Disney. I have used up gift cards at Costco, K-Mart, Walmart, etc. and the cashier offers to throw the card out after I use it up. :confused3 Maybe I won't be doing that any more.

OP, so glad it worked out for you!!

Well at Target, if you purchase something with a gift card and then return it, they will just refund the value to a new gift card. It doesn't have to be the same exact one...at least not at Target it doesn't have to be.

This. I've never had a store tell me I need to keep the original gift card for returns. If I return something purchased with a GC, the store just issues a new GC (or sometimes they have separate cards for "merchandise credits") for that value.
