@Minniekins I don't have, nor have I used a redcard in the past. When you checkout, is the 5% discount deducted at the register, or do you see it on you r statement?

I think what she is saying is if the first 4 digits is the same on the Target red card and the Target gift cards, Target wouldn't be able to distinguish whether you're paying with the Target red card or the gift card, thus still giving you the 5% red card discount even though you're buying the Disney gift card with a Target gift card. I could be totally wrong but I think that's what she's getting at. Kind of how websites know you used an Amex based on the first 4 digits of your card or a MasterCard or Visa. The first 4 digits distinguishes what type of card it is. So I think what she's saying is that if it can't distinguish between the Target red card or a Target gift card, it would be difficult to take the 5% discount away from one and not the other. Not sure if that's how it really works but I believe that is what she's saying.

All I know is that somebody's got to be losing money somewhere.

@PerfessorZ I am not sure anyone is losing money. I work for a 60 store retail chain and we have a gift card kiosks in all of our stores. I am looking at a sales summary report for last week. eBay cards pay a 5% commission. By selling the card at break even, the customer still visited a store or the webpage. (Lost leader) A chance to sell you something else.

Disney gift cards pay a 7% commission. Selling those at at a 5% discount still nets a 2% commission. It is all about building foot traffic.

On average, a typical gift card mall program will net about a 10% commission.

I'm not seeing one either. Harumph. I might just use up my eBay bucks and buy a Target GC. The rest of my Target GCs are already converted to eBay, I'm holding out for a 5x day-especially since I'm not in a rush now with the whole 5% fiasco.

Yeah, I converted my Ebay bucks to Ebay GC a while back because I just didn't want to forget about them! I am thinking of just doing Target.. I was thinking of doing Ebay to Ebay if it meant I could have those e-cards easily accessible for a promo tomorrow. Might just suck it up and get the Target cards, 5% Ebates and 2% Ebay bucks is pretty good.

Login to ebates and select eBay. It shows 5% back on gift cards. It specifically says it excludes eBay gift cards though.

The bonus offer was under the 2x Cash Back category for me. Also, the very first line of the disclaimer states, "Cash Back is not available on the purchase of eBay gift cards."

Thanks! I found the 5x Ebates offer, I meant that I didn't see any Ebay bucks bonus offers. Clears that right up though, just need to decide if I want to use all of mine towards Target, or wait for an offer tomorrow.

Yes target cards are not listed on the eBay page.I want to buy Target through ebay for the extra ebates but there are around 30 giftcards featured and Target isn't one of them.

For anyone who is planning on Ghirardelli cards- they also have a 10% off chocolate/$1 off specialty sundae coupon on their website under special offers. There's no exp date. The coupon in combo with a 5% off eBay from target, the 20% sale on eBay today, and 5% ebates is a nice bit of savings on a Ghirardelli ice cream stop at DTD or DCA.
