Disney Gift Card Deals

Uh Oh. I just tested this out with a Morton's steakhouse giftcard. When I got to the Choose a Shipping Address Page, there was a note about free shipping and this:
SAVE 5% with your Target REDcard (excludes gift cards)

I am hoping that this is just a temporary policy. Fortunately I used all of my Target cards for Ebay cards, but I am a bit nervous.

I also initiated an online chat with their customer service. Since it was for a Steakhouse, and not one of the usual churning cards, I thought it would be safe.

Sean asked for my Cart # and my email address, and this is the followon convo:

Sean:Thank you for the information.
Need not worry, you can place the order and let me know, I will issue 5% discount for the "Morton's The Steakhouse $50" after the order is placed.
The discount amount will be adjusted to the order total.

Sean:I'll standby while you complete the order.

Mindy:Thank you! But I'm curious. Why didn't it give me the discount automatically?

Yikes!

Further info from my Taarget chat:

Sean:I see the 5% REDcard discount will not be applied on some specialty eGiftCards.

I asked him what qualifies as a specialty ecard, and he gave me this link. You aren't going to like this.

That doesn't explain why the web wouldn't give %5 off on other cards, but I'm not going to push my luck.

Check your Amex Cards! Just had a $25 credit when spending $100 at Staples dot com. Purchased a $100 Target e-gift card, will load onto Target dot com and get a Disney gift card card for 5% off.

You may not be able to get the Disney card. See my 2 posts above this one.

Well, seeing 4-5 new pages, I came in expecting good news. I was planning on converting my Target shipment today :sad2:

No rush to get it...worst case I go to the store/online and pay face value. I still saved $25!!! I haven't checked today but they were out of stock online yesterday.

Well, crap. I still have over 1,500 left in my vacation to convert. I shouldn't have been going so conservatively.

Hopefully just eGiftCards, not physical ones!

It looks like the physical gift cards are no longer available online. They are all showing as "in stores only". So, I see this as a closure of the loophole. You can no longer get the e-gift cards (i.e. the ones that are ONLY available online) with the 5% discount and you can no longer get the physical gift cards online. So, you now have the choice of getting the physical gift cards in the store WITH the 5% discount, but you cannot use a gift card...well, you could, but you wouldn't get the discount...the 5% discount.

I think in the long run, it is a better deal to use the gift cards in the store and forego the 5% discount. Unfortunately, this is going to cause me to reduce my RedCard spending by quite a bit. If I can't get the discount on the gift cards, then I will probably just do Rewards CC => eBay gift cards => Target gift cards => Disney gift cards (in store).

I just bought a $25 Ebay egc and microwave lightbulb for $29. Used $27 Target gc plus Target cc. Only 21 cent discount.

If it is a loophole closure, I should know by the time my last GCM order gets here. Hopefully we can still buy GCs with GCs in-store and online even if the 5% gets taken away in one route or another.

Pretty sure my aunt found the coupons at a Houston store but the store only had the variable amount Disney cards.

The ones I did were the variable amount Disney Cards (from $25-$500). I just asked for $25 on each card.

Two HEBs had coupons and two did not.

Right now she's in Capital Gymnastics Show Team. From here she moves to level 3 JO next year, I think. She doesn't compete yet. Her team does shows and parades. We also have the option to choose Xcel (sp?) next year but her coach says she should really do JO.

The JO program is extremely well established. Xcel has been around for a long time but is new to Texas. Capital is a great place!

Hi Tigger! My daughter is a level 9 in Arkansas. Texas gymnasts are sure impressive! We don't practice the hours that are "normal" in Texas, but she wouldn't mind it if she did :) She's only 14, been battling some blocks and injuries, and hopefully will have a decent competitive season this coming year.

Level 9 is awesome for a 14 year old. Lots of time to get to level 10 and get a college scholarship - if that's what she wants. I wish her lots of luck and hope she gets her body healthy.

Thank you for this strategy. I was totally lost by the loss of the 5% online. Now I just have to hope I get a chance to get multiple ebucks on ebay.

A good way to test would be to try buying a gift card in store with your red card and see if the discount still applies. If it works then it hopefully would just be an online glitch, though odd that it still works on non gift cards. If not I would guess they finally decided to close this loophole.
Just bought $50 disney giftcard in store with red card. 5% came off no problem so I'm going with online glitch for now

For those of you that can still do GS -> EBay that go through Raise, etc I would do it now. They are usually 8.5%-9% as opposed to Ebay's < 1% but I can see them being bought up and the percentage declining if this is how things are going to go.

When the "glitch" happened last time, was it just GCs that were affected?
