Yeah... nope. I'm done with eBay. I can't risk my PP account. I do enough buying and selling online that I won't risk it. I'll keep on with my Swag to Target to Disney (in low quantities) as long as I can, but that's it.

I'm not shocked. PayPal has always done horrible things. There was a big brouhaha awhile back when someone was raining money for charity and PayPal held a bunch of their money hostage. A friend of mine, a few years back, had a shop and a wholesale account set up with a toy company. She offered to allow a bunch of local moms in our mom's group to use her account buy toys. She bought them and we all paid her back with PayPal. At the end of the day it was thousands of dollars. PayPal froze her account for a month because of "suspicious activity." Basically they didn't let her touch the money while they "investigated." It was awful.

I did a search on ebay stores earlier today, and these were the ones that are large enough that I would be comfortable shopping from

DH and I had a big fight the other night, and I told him I was putting off our WDW trip indefinitely, since he doesn't appreciate my planning, and I was tired of him complaining about everything I had in mind. I think he is still in shock, but now I am trying to find an alternative for all my Target cards.

For those of you with Sears cards, what will you be getting instead of ebay gc's? I am so glad I put off my trip to the nearest Kmart!

Yep I'd say so. But somehow they get around it. Plus any GC balance "tied" to a PP account say goodbye to. Also shady.

Exactly. Once you investigate you will read horror stories of people shut down by paypal just like that. Some with upwards or tens of thousands of dollars tied up for 180 days! Like they can't pay bills, etc. So in that sense I consider myself lucky. I always knew the degree of risk in the churning process but it still sucks. I would have rather been banned from Target!!

Just to clarify, the people that had thousands of dollars tied up for 180 days, that was just money they had in their PP account from selling on ebay, correct? PP didn't freeze the checking account that was used to open or linked to the PP account.?

Thank you and @lorijohnhill for posting your stories. Now that I know it isn't allowed I am going to exit this process and just stick with the Target discount (5% off on Disney cards) for now. I will keep checking in for sure because you never know what is going to work next. Will probably look at getting a better point paying CC also, just to have more options available. Kmart sells Disney cards so anyone who has sears cards could just cash out at this point.

If I recall correctly there was talk in the past of Amazon accepting GC to GC transactions at one point. Anyone know if this is still the case? I know there's no benefit like ebucks through Amazon, but I'm just curious.

I was trying to remember this as well... $600 is more gas money than I can reasonably use, but I can split things up if Gamestop has Southwest. I can do even better if we can use Amazon to buy other cards. I don't really have cash to use to replace cards with (for instance get Applebee's GC then use that cash for Disney). We, don't eat out often, as that is not in our budget.

For now, I'm going back to cashing Swagbucks out for Target. I can always use Target if the Disney angle dries up there.

Not gift cards but I used mine for Lands End and Sears marketplace (bookcase, GoPro like camera).

Correct. The story I read was someone who relied on an ebay business and had a large sum of EBay profit in PP account. They never touched my checking account tied to PP nor do I think they can. Thank god.

Worse case scenario you could sell the GS giftcards to Raise,etc. you'll take a hit but at least walk away. I am prob going to do that with my Ebay gc's.

Only if I can get a new PP account going without being shut down right away which is much harder than it sounds. You can't use EBay GC's or Ebucks without one. I CAN buy GC's using a credit card (only one not associated with banned PP account) but that's about it and those EBucks I earned are useless. It's a total nightmare.

Part of the issue is that the GCs are eBay, not PP, so PP has no "responsibility" for them. They don't care that you can't use them on eBay without a PP account.

Welp, I'm another that cannot risk my PP account. I earn about half my income online from a company that only pays via PP. I have about $385 in Ebay GCs (that I just converted at BB yesterday Should have went for the Disney cards instead) that I guess I will use for the BP cards while they still have them at a discount. My ebucks are another story. I'll have $485 after I buy the gas cards, and I don't really want that much of my funds in gas or restaurant cards. GS is a no-go for us, so I guess its either try my luck with our one and only Kmart or individual sellers.

I got locked out trying PPDG during last week's promo. I called PP and they said nothing was wrong. They verified my identity with questions about my past and then transferred me to eBay to see if the problem was there. The guy at eBay seemed very caring and interested in getting this fixed for me. He called me back later and had me try again and it still wouldn't go through. He was going to work with his co-workers, managers, and PayPal to try find out why PPDG was such a problem. He was supposed to call me back the next day and never did. I was out of town by that point, so tried one last time, but used my phone. It didn't go through and I later got an email that my account had suspicious activity, which I had gotten previously in the past few months, so I didn't think anything of it. When I was finally able to log in on a desktop I found that they wanted me to send in a utility bill to prove my address and describe about 10 recent purchase, all of which were gift card purchases. I sent those in. Today I received a message that they updated the status and needed me to log in to give more info. 9 minutes later came the "appeal denied" message. I hadn't even seen the first message yet. It was just done. So, I called to find out what was going on.


eta: Another interesting tidbit is that after I gave up trying to get BB through PPDG last week, I went ahead and ordered the GS from GCM. $500 on my mom's acct and $100 on my daughter's acct. My mom received a call from PayPal asking if she had placed an order for $500 + whatever the shipping was. She said yes, and that was that. I hope. I'm afraid to log into her acct to find out if she has been blocked as well.


eta: I'm wrong, it wasn't the promo day, it was the 16th. I was trying to purchase a $50 Claim Jumper gift card for my husband for Father's Day. And I was trying to pay for it with a credit card.

I was also locked out yesterday, I uploaded my DL and my account was returned to normal today. I never purchase more than $500 in GC at a time. I have several payments in my Paypal from clients and some other purchases on Ebay so my PP acct isn't only buying GCs on Ebay.

So sorry for those of you who have been shut down by PayPal.

I, too, want to be done with PayPal/eBay and get out, but I have a handful of eBay GCs I need to spend first.

Isn't there some sort of recourse you could pursue for eBay not allowing you to spend your gift cards, as PP shut down your account, and eBay does not allow you to spend GCs except through PP?

Also, and I know it's already been noted, but Page 1000?!? You guys are some of my favs on the Dis.

First, so sorry you both had this happen to you, it's really awful and totally unfair! Hopefully you at the very least, get your money out and don't lose any. Doesn't really make any sense. Especially the part about not being able to use gc for gc purchase. Giftcards are money. And as another poster said, how do they know where you got anything you paid with, whether it was your money or cc or gc's. Plus, when I was trying to get thru PPDG the other week, well even other times, too, I told them I was trying to purchase BB(or GS) gc's with my Ebay gc's and they never said it wasn't allowed and offered to help me put them thru. So it's obviously not a rule that it's not allowed. Again, so sorry, this really stinks!

That sucks. Sounds like our accounts are very similar so I have no idea why I "passed" and you didn't. I did not call them, I wonder if that was a trigger? That'd be stupid though. Not taking time to call should be more of a suspicious action.

Kidsfirsttrip and lorijohn, I am so sorry for what happened to you both. This whole process is nerve wracking. I have had some trouble with not receiving gift cards from PPDG and even target egift cards. Both came through eventually, but I am going to be out too now. I didn't even use PayPal much before I started churning, but still would like to have the option for the future. Right now I have $400 in BB that I was going to convert to eBay, but I think I will just get Disney instead. Also, a little over $100 in ebucks - will get a physical gift card of some type with that.
