I've heard it may be used in the near future to replace Illuminations but that was one of those heard one time and not much again rumors.

little projectors that can shine on things and lights to turn them into fluid pixel screens. I think they even called them "the pixels" in the faa application. Intel did a demo of one way to do this not that long ago (just before disney started to file for faa approval). I woujdlnt' be shocked if they worked together for that demo or it really inspired someone that it was possible to do this wacky drone idea they had but could never get approved to move forward with.

I hope they use them for more than just the night shows. it would be entertaining if time to time a few just roam around the water in different parks offering some live lighting. kind of like the fountain in epcot that does a show periodically. I'd like to see that when the boat stops running in MK.

it could really make the electric water pageant interesting as well.

I am the only person not enthused about this. The SOUND of a single drone is the most annoying thing ever...likea lawn mower buzzing overhead. Imagine hundreds at once...????????? Migraine city.

I doubt that would be an issue with whatever Disney decides to do with them.

How do we know there will be hundreds of them anyways? There could be only 1 or there could be 50. We don't know their exact plans yet.

I think a pretty simple use could be to recreate the end of Tangled with the floating lanterns. Could be a good fit for Disney springs.

Since the FAA approval seemed to be an important part of the story, I think I would start the guesswork in the parks that were covered under the no fly zone since Disney had the ability to "fly" over some other areas already. The no fly zone completely covered the Magic Kingdom and Epcot.

Animal Kingdom, DHS and Disney Springs were not within the zone. (This would explain why we get so many good photos of Avatarland construction and we see helicopter tours in those areas.) They would be able to begin any planning for shows here whenever they wanted ...... and today's announcement that a show will begin at DS, clearly been in planning without FAA approval because it is okay there.

Very cool possibilities.

Just 1 of those things is obnoxious sounding. But then again I know plenty of people who won't/can't watch fireworks due to the noise, so those of us who can't stand the lawn-mowers in the sky will just have to suck it up or not watch.
