Disney Genie Versus DAS?

I have limited experience with a DAS, as the only time we have ever used it was last May on a trip to WDW with my mother, who requested "one last trip," as she is suffering from some cognitive and memory issues as well as other age-related issues.

How did it go, you might ask? So well that the one last trip has evolved to a sequel Spring Break trip to Disneyland over Spring Break. :)

We used DAS, and the cast members were so kind. I told Mom we would try to get her one because she's "old," and she was okay with it, but getting too into the cognitive issues upsets her. I was able to write a note to the CM explaining the dementia, etc. and they were very kind and discreet and the passes worked great. There were no FP available at all at this time, so I guess I don't really know how they would work together.

That said, it looks like Disney Genie will give us the same thing that the DAS did? Should we still get the DAS? We honestly would have paid for the Genie either way so I don't mind paying for it. I didn't know if the DAS would work on lines that don't offer the Genie pass? She does okay in lines maybe 20 minutes or shorter, esp if we are in a cue where she can see, but beyond that she gets agitated and forgets why we are in line, etc.

https://disneyland.disney.go.com/guest-services/disability-access-service/According to the website, you can use Genie + with DAS. Since Genie + hasn't started, yet, it's only speculation as to what it will be like. They are currently updating their cognitive brochure. I think you'll get better information in about a month.
"Disney Parks is in the process of updating its Guide for Guests with Cognitive Disabilities, which provides more detailed information and tips for Guests utilizing DAS to use in planning their visit. This updated Guide will help Guests take advantage of all of the new and enhanced products and services. "

I think the main 'benefit' would be that with G+ you can get LL passes for each LL ride only ONCE per day. I'm assuming with DAS there will be either no limit or a higher limit of rides per day as many of those with cognitive disabilities do 're-rides' of certain rides as part of their special needs.

We've used DAS for years and used it in conjunction with Maxpass. It works well to have both options. The reason is that the Genie+ won't give you a lot of choice in return times for rides. The next available window can be hours away, or beyond the time you'll still be in the park (that was a major consideration for us, as our child could only handle about 4 hours in the parks for a long time). The DAS is what we would use for "must do" attractions and we would intersperse fastpasses while waiting for the DAS return windows to come up. It gives you a lot more flexibility to use both systems concurrently and if longevity in the parks is a concern, it's definitely the way to go.

I read in an article today that most rides (presumably not all rides or they wouldn't need these designation) are "DAS-eligible." The article I was reading showed that Seven Dwarfs & Space Mountain WERE both listed as "DAS-eligible." So my question is- what is NOT? Do we have to wait in those 90 minute lines to ride Rise?

I think for Rise, you still have to get a boarding pass. If you get one, then you can show them your DAS when your boarding group is called and lessen the wait.

DAS is great for those who use it right. It has no expiration time so no hurry for that 1 hour window which can be crucial when our guy needs a few moments to recollect himself . He's so patiently waiting for Nemo to resurface!

No, they did away with boarding passes for Rise last month. You couldn't get one if you wanted to. Remy is the only thing with boarding passes now.

Oh, since this is the Disneyland board not Disneyworld, I thought we were talking about Disneyland- as boarding passes are still happening at Disneyland.

At DLR, certain things don't qualify for DAS: DLRR, Main Street Vehicles, fireworks, parades, etc. Not sure what doesn't qualify at WDW.

Oh, so you are saying we could get return times but we aren't held to those times? So if she even needs to go back to the hotel and rest or whatever we could just come back that night and go through the LL? That would be so helpful if she has a bad day while we are there! We are staying at the Grand Californian to help make that kind of thing more convenient if needed!

Sorry - I stand corrected.

I think you are confusing G+ with individual LL. With G+ you can definitely ride the same ride more than once per day using the special lane. It's like MaxPass used to be.
That's not how Genie+ is working in WDW. No word yet on how it will be at DLR. I wouldn't be shocked if they went with once per ride to maintain consistency.

Yes, the DAS return time is open ended. It's not an hour window like fastpass. Instead it says "return anytime after XX:XX"

With G+ you can NOT ride the same ride more then once either. Indivisual LL is also once.

And just to clarify, the new "virtual interview" policy of obtaining DAS is not yet in place for Disneyland, correct? So in order to get it, you visit guest relations first? This will be our first time utilizing this so I'm trying to figure out the basics!

Correct. The process to get a DAS in person is so quick I'm not sure why anyone would bother doing it in advance.

No, I'm not. My understanding is that the jury is still sort of 'out' about being able to get a 2nd/multiple LL (as in former FP, NOT pay per ride LL+) pass for the same ride. 'Common wisdom' is that it's 'one and done'. There have been reports from people at WDW that it's 'one and done' and at least one other 2nd hand report I've seen of a poster's friend at WDW saying one is able to get a 2nd LL pass.
