Please help to pray for my family. I just sent DS16, off on a two week mission trip to Mexico. I know it will be a very good experience and he will grow in many ways and it is nice to help people. They are building 2 houses for needy families, and doing service at an orphanage.

It is just harder then I thought it would be to send him out of country without me. WOW!!! it is harder on DS 14 and Grandma also. (DS12 seems the best of all of us)

I guess there is a stretch of road they will be traveling down in Mexico on Sat. morning that is wild.

We have been planning this for Months and now that it is here it is SO HARD!!!!! I thought I was all okay with it and I am still glad he went, but didn't realize how hard it would be to know he is gone.

Thanks friends for allowing me to feel comfortable to come here for support.

Wow i'm sure it is hard for you and your family, but what a wonderful thing he is doing, and what a great experience it is for him!!!
I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers..let us know how he makes out!!:goodvibes :grouphug:

Prayers for you and your son. I have a 15 year old and I am not ready for that yet.
BUT.. Just think what a life changing experence he will have and the amazing difference this will have in his own life. Also think of how he may change someone elses whole life.
He must be a great kid. I know you are proud of him.

I am sure it will be a great experience for him (and for you as well, leaving your comfort zone a bit with having him so far away!). Where in Mexico is he going? I went on 2 different mission trips to Mexico while I was in college.....we were just outside of Ensenada. Praying he has a wonderful (and safe!) trip!

Thanks everyone, I knew I could count on Dis for support.

Pednurse- they too are about 45 min. out of ensenada. on the baja peninsula. The road there I hear is scarey and that is a huge piece of what is stressing me.

I am glad that we can grow through streaching ourselves, but it isn't much fun.

Thanks again-
Jo

We were at the City of Children about 1/2 hour outside of Ensenada. That road can be quite something, but this time of year the roads are at least dry. But if you've driven any of the roads through the mountains of Virginia or the Rockies, the road really isn't any different than that. I'm sure they have careful drivers. :goodvibes Praying for a safe trip for your DS and his mission team as well as peace for you!

:grouphug: :grouphug: Hugs and prayers to your son. You must be so proud of him! I'm not sure I could have done that at 16!! Here's hoping for a safe, productive trip and then safely back home to you! :flower:

Thanks guys for the support, tomorrow morning is border crossing day, I pray all goes well. I talked to him tonight and I think he is wondering what he got himself into. he said "I have only been gone 3 days and it seems like 300", I said that he was okay and that I was proud of him. He then tried to make me feel better and say, "oh it isn't because I am missing you or worried, just that the days have been long ones.".

He has never been away from home more then 2 nights in a row, and that was with his Dad. 3 or 4 times a year. He has his brothers then. I guess he has been on a youth retreat or two also for a couple of nights.

Thank you again for the support-
Jo

I will be praying for your son also.

Last summer our whole family of 5 went to Honduras on a medical mission trip and had a wonderful experience (kids were 20, 17 & 15).

This year we weren't able to go because of our oldest getting married and middle starting college (financially).

A few months ago the middle DS 18 decided he really wanted to go back, so he paid for it with his own money from his job.

He left this morning and will be gone a week. It's a little easier for me because I've been there and can picture what it's like, but I'll still miss him!

So when I'm praying for him, I'll also pray for you and your son.

My DS is Kevin, if anyone wants to add a prayer for him - it would be much appreciated!

Thanks- praise2him-
I will ad Kevin to my prayers as well. I am glad the last trip was good so he would want to go back. My DS name is Devon. I am sitting on pins and needles, the church is supposed to call us all and let us know they made it but, no word yet and they should have been there 3 hours ago.... I am sure they just got busy settling in and all and haven't called the church to report yet but, minds begin to wander. I am so thankful that we serve a God who tells us not to fear, even with that knowledge it is hard.

Thanks again to everyone who is thinking and praying for us.

Jo

Jo,

Have you heard from them yet? Will he be able to call you every so often or will they be out of touch? I hope you hear from him soon - just to know they made it there okay will make you feel better.

Our group has a satellite phone and will be calling the church once a day to report, but we won't hear from Kevin until he's back in Miami on his way home.

They did call the church this morning to report that they made it there okay and everyone is doing fine!

You and Devon are in my prayers :grouphug:

Lisa

Thanks Lisa-

I just heard from the church to say they made it. I sent a calling card for Devon but, was told that the pay phone near where they are staying has been broken for some time :( . The wife of our youth pastor set up facebook for us to have up dates but, nothing yet :( . I thought it would help but.... now I find myself checking up often with nothing. :(

Just hearing that they are okay helped but, I am a little sad that I won't hear from him until a week from today when they get back to San Diego.

I watched the movie Facing the Giants last night and it helped. They reminded me that the Bible tells us 365 times not to fear. I am trying to hold on to that. I know God is good, just hard to wait.

I will keep praying for you and Kevin as well.

Hi Jo,

I'm just checking in to see how you're doing. I've been praying for Devon and his group & you and your family every day, and I hope you're all doing well.

Our group is all healthy and doing well. They will be coming home late Saturday night.

I love that movie! (Facing the Giants) It has such a wonderful message and I cry every time I see it.

Here's a verse that may help you today:

"Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall." Psalm 55:22

Hugs & Blessings to you :grouphug:

Lisa

Thank you Lisa- for the verse, My favorite is Psalms 121 I lift my eyes to the hill and where does my help come from it comes from the Lord.

Our group hasn't been able to give updates like we hoped. The internet isn't working and the pay phone that is by the camp is down. I just have to trust that all is well and he will be home soon. They cross the border on Sunday night and will get home to Oregon on Wed. It seems like so long.

He has never been away from home more then a few days, and even then I talked on the phone to them every day. I know it is pathetic but, I really do like my kids and enjoy their company.

It helps to know that he is doing something that I am so proud of and I know he will grow so much from the experience.

I am glad Kevin and the group are doing well. I continue to pray for their trip as well. :grouphug:

Hoping Kevin got home safely last night, I have been praying for him. Our team is crossing the border today, down that long stretch of road once again. But, the goodnews is I should be able to talk to him by cell phone today. I am just hoping he remembered to charge it last night.

Thanks again for the prayers it means a lot.

Jo
