Hello everyone!!
My husband and I are having trouble deciding which cruise. We have been on Carnival 6 times and love it, but I am a big Disney fan so we are thinking of going on a Disney Cruise next year in September.
I am wondering if the 4 day cruise will be mostly families. I don't mind kids, but I am hoping that the adult bars and lounges would be full too.
Has anyone been on Carnival and Disney without kids? Do you think we should stick with CCL for now, and save DCL for when we have kids in a few years?

Thanks for your help!!

Hi KellyC...My Dw and I will be taking our 3rd Disney Cruise in October. All w/o our kids ( they are older ). WE love DCL. Don't get me wrong there will be kids around, but you have the adult only pools area, spa, nite clubs, and the late dinner seatings have few small children in attendance.
Our 1st cruise we were seated with 2 other couples, 1 on their honeymoon and another you did not have children but were Disney lovers. My DW and I fall into that same category. Our 2nd cruise was for our 25th anniversary and had good friends with us
(again no kids ).
I think you would be very surprise how many couples travel DCL that either are childless or come w/o the kids. I can not compare since we have not cruised on any other line, but I believe you will have a great time if you choose Disney.

We did the 4 day first. I thought this is not long enough and we did the 7 day last January. I have now decided that 7 days is not long enough...lol ( I'm hard to please ). We are doing our $ 99.00 3 day special in October.

Welcom to the Dis Kelly!!!

We first sailed DCL with our kids and my whole family. We missed out on so much, DH & I went back alone...and we had a wonderful time. You can check out my trip report on the trip reports board. It was the 4th of July cruise this summer(my report is probably a few pages down now). We had a blast,a nd Im sure you would too.

We considered making our next cruise adults only but DD & DS wouldn't hear about it!

Thanks everyone!!
I am sure we will love it. In fact, I am now re-considering the 7 day cruise. It seems like it would be more relaxed, romantic, etc. Any thoughts on which would be better? Also - does anyone know if Disney often gives upgrades? If we go for the 7-day, we can only afford an inside cabin!

Two adults here (mid-30's, no kids). We love DCL!. Have done the 4 day twice and the 7 day once with back-to-back 7 day cruises coming up next month.
There is no casino on board, but there are places at the ports to gamble if you are so inclined. We're not.
We have also sailed Princess twice and have a Holland America cruise booked for January.

Don't count on 1 , if it comes it will be all that much better. Go for what you can afford.

My hubby and I have no children (unless you count the kind with hooves, feathers, or fur), and we LOVE DCL!!! We have done 26 cruises so far, with 9 more booked through the end of 2003. It's probably not the right cruise line for you if you totally can't stand being around kids, but that is a hazard of any cruise line...we actually think that Disney is better for adults than RCCL because RCCL did not have any enforced adults only areas. On Disney, we can always escape to the pool or clubs. Many of the adult events, such as the 70s party, are totally packed and are an absolute riot! Also, the spa is a hgreat escape (I highly recommend the surial). Disney even tries to seat you with other adults at dinner, although that is not always possible around holidays or other times when the kid population is high. But in the times we have been seated with young ones, we have actually had a blast. We've been very lucky to be with well mannered and well spoken youngsters and have enjoyed hearing about the cruise from their perspective. Give DCL a try...you won't be dissapointed!

Kelly,

Welcome. My DH and I have cruised three times without our son. He is actually older and no longer chooses to vacation with Mom and Dad (too uncool) and he really is not a Disney person. I think that he was switched at birth (just kidding). How could I, a Disney fanatic, have a child who doesn't like Disney? Oh well, he just doesn't know what he is missing.

I second Barb's thoughts. While we have not cruised with DCL 26 times nor even close, we have cruised 3 times on the Magic. Our first cruise was a 4 day in Sept 99 before the Magic started the 7 day cruises. This was an absolute perfect time barring there are no hurricanes brewing. Even if there are, Disney takes every precaution to keep its guests safe and will re-route if necessary. This happened to us on our 2nd cruise which was in October. I personally prefer the fall, school is back in session and there seems to be less kids, but as Barb said the adult only areas are great if you really don't feel like being around kids on a particular day. Even if the kid's are around they are a blast to watch. Our last cruise was in May and it was definately the most crowded and this cruise had lots and lots and lots of kids. But it is Disney after all and we are all kids at heart. I can't comment about Carnival since we have never cruised with them, but I think that you will thoroughly enjoy all DCL has to offer.

Have a great time.

Hi Kelly,

Just returned from the Western Magic (8/31) with my DH, this was our third Disney Cruise and our 7th Cruise. I have to tell
you we did the 4nites and then the 7nites. We had the time of our lives. We loved every moment together and the treatment
was wonderful. Try the rainforest one night(later evening the best). It is so relaxing and no children. The kids are kept very
busy on all the cruises. I did have some run in's with the teens
on board this trip though. Very rude! Had to calm the hubby down a couple of times on Castaway Cay, they were horrible
running around at one point.
Met some wonderful friends from the DCL board and have many memories.
I do believe you have to put some things out of your mind to make a magical cruise come true.
To conclude we are booked on the 9/6/03 Eastern Cruise and just can't wait. Our cruise ended with a three nighter at Wilderness Lodge Conceirge level 7th floor. Now that was the way to end a delightful vacation. Top notch treatment and a beautiful resort. It is home to us (eight trips there) and will return again in March 03. Kelly, I believe you would have a great time and a magical journey.
