I am so excited I didn't know they had chocolate ones!

If you really want great pineapple recipes go to the Dole plantation on the island of Oahu.... :lovestruc

It is absolutely facinating what they can make with a pineapple!

I learned how to correctly cut a fresh pineapple as well.. Alot of restaurants cut it into triangles with the point being hard as a rock!!! :confused3 That is supposed to be cut off and you will have delicious slices of sweet pineapple.

They had floats, jams, wines, you name it at the Dole store...

If you're ever in Hawaii make sure you put the Dole plantation on your itenerary..

This has been a paid advertisement.. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

FYI, it's VERY easy to make this at home. I have the official recipe, if you're interested. Takes all of 10 min to make. I store it in a pitcher in the fridge and eat it for about a week. :)

2.5 pounds frozen strawberries, thawed w/juice

2 cups heavy cream

1/4 cup sour cream

1/3 cup plain yogurt

1 tablespoon sugar, optional

fresh strawberries, for garnish.

1. Mix strawberries, cream, sour cream, and yogurt in blender until smooth

2. Add sugar, if desired

3. Chill. Stir well before serving

4. Garnish with fresh strawberries

That's IT! SUPER easy and soooo good.

NO FAT IN THIS RECIPE!!!
:rolleyes1
Wonder if you could substitute no-fat sour cream, no-fat yogurt, etc....

I acutally made it TODAY and used no-fat sour cream, worked out great! I did use the normal yogurt though...

Very, very delicious!!!!!!

I eat my grits both ways. I guess since I'm from California - I'm considered a Yankee - well at least that's what my stepmom's dad calls me. Depends on what mood I'm in. Sometimes sugar, and sometime salt and butter with some crumbled bacon in them. ..

Sounds soo good. I wish there was a Waffle House nearby.....

Don't think this is a nasty complaint :worship: or anything (because I truly LOVE the pics) BUT, wouldn't this thread last longer if we could quote someone WITHOUT having to quote the pics along with it.....?

Then it wouldn't take up so much file space? :confused3

Doesn't matter if the pictures get quoted or not. It still comes out to the same number of posts per page. The new rules are limted by pages per thread, not file space. We'll get cut off at or around 250 pages, still over 200 to go before we lose it.

This is one of my biggest peeves about this thread, people want to comment on one picture and they post the entire post of 8 pictures. But, it will never change, so we just have to accept that and deal with it. Isnt' going to keep me away, I so love food porn! :lovestruc

I completely agree......them darn Yankees gotta go put sugar on em'!!! :lmao:
For me grits are better as a savory item.......that's how I learned to eat'em as a child in the south!

:thumbsup2

My great grandfather (born in 1895), would put blood gravy on it....
But then again he put Tabasco on EVERYTHING and sopped his plate with a slice of bread (God rest his soul) :lovestruc LOL.... Ahhhhhh... memories

I guess when you were born that long ago and survived 4 wars and the Great Depression you learned to eat anything and everything. :confused3

Can you guess that I grew up in the south on a farm?
;)

I don't think we've seen these before

:rotfl: Thanks for the grits explanations. Didn't realise I was potentially insulting the south by not knowing :lmao: So thanks :)

:rolleyes1

You could, but you can't really substitute the HEAVY CREAM! :worship: I suppose you could use half and half if you wanted. The soup will be runny if you cut out the fat. The taste won't be much different, though.

Actually, if you use half and half (or even milk), you can thicken the the soup with a slurry of all purpose flour and cold water. The thickening agent will come to full thickness at a boil, but then you should cook the soup a little longer to "cook out" any raw flour taste slurry may have.

:thumbsup2

PP, pretty impressive kids food from the GF! I've gotten so used to seeing the boring old chicken chunks, grapes and flourescent mac & cheese that I assumed not much else could be found on property for the kiddos!

BTW: Well, y'all know us Texans straddle the south and the southwest, but in my family we're pretty much cool with sugary or savory grits. Course my father used to crumble his cornbread into his milk or buttermilk and eat it with a spoon. Guess what that makes him (other than gross :lmao: )? But don't get me started on people who put sugar in their cornbread (dang johnny cakes!) ;)

But don't get me started. Just tonight I told DH to scootch over...and then started wondering if that's a regional term or if everyone says that.

Hey there - I am a transplant to Austin. I am from Memphis, TN, which I consider the deep south. Home of grits, biscuits and white gravy, and sweet tea. I now live in Austin (Round Rock before), near Lakeway. I am curious what "Austin-ish" means. Bastrop? Kerrville? Manor? Georgetown, San Marcos? Marble Falls?

Speaking of sweet tea - how is it that you can only get it at Chick Fil-A in Austin? It's ridiculous!

I tend to not list it b/c it's a fairly small town and I'm very distrustful of the internet...especially since my vacation dates are listed (Hey robbers, it's a free for all! Paranoia, paranoia, everybody's comin' to get me! ;) ) So I'll tell you that it starts with a K and it's just south of Austin off I-35. I'm sure you'll get it :) DH grew up in Bertram (near Burnet), though I'm originally from Big D. But my heart's always in Austin and I miss living inside the city limits. Spend way too much in gas every weekend just to fill my endless craving for Whole Foods' Crab & Butternut Squash soup mmmmmmmm.

As for the dearth of sweet tea, lets just say that in my opinion Austin has become a great deal more homogenized since Hollywood found out about it ;) However, you might be able to find some non-chain places with sweet tea. Just off the top of my head (though this may have changed), Rudy's BBQ, Cherry Creek Catfish, Hoovers, Hills, Threadgills. I think Jason's Deli used to offer it, but some places have replaced it with Blackcurrant Iced tea.

But let's be honest...is any place a substitute for the sweet tea everyone's grandmother made? Never!!

Then again, have you had an El Chilito Chilango Margarita? I'm thinking it won't replace your sweet tea, but it might help you forget it for a while! :thumbsup2

I gotcha. I know where you live! haha I am totally with you, which is why I won't post any pictures of my house or discuss where in Austin I live. I have had exactly the same thoughts about posted vaca dates being an open invitation.

We have a friend who IS a Bertram (last name). He's from that town originally.

Sweet tea - living without it keeps me from gaining weight! Who needs the extra calories?:lmao:

Anyway, I have to apologize to everyone else for taking this thread off topic. I couldn't reach her by PM :(

Sounds like we need a Southern food meet n' greet @ The World so we can enjoy some biscuits, grits, and sweet tea together!
