My family returned from our first trip ever to Disney World Friday night  and I can officially say "I Love all things Disney". We stayed at the incredibly beautiful Poly! After 8 months of planning, reading books and of course scanning these boards on a daily basis, we arrived in Orlando Saturday evening 9/29 from Chicago. We headed off the plane, to the Magical Express bus and were at the Poly within one hour of our arrival.

We enter the delightful lobby of the Poly to be greeted with not one but two "alohas". We were next in line and all of the sudden DD vomits on my shoes! No warning, nothing, just blahhh :scared1: I could not believe it! So DH heads off to the bathroom with her while I try to get us checked in. At this point, I could care less where my room was, I just wanted to clean off my child and my shoes! Within minutes, a CM was there to clean up DD's welcome treat on the floor and another CM was checking me in asap! I was tearing up with every word I spoke. This nice lady, another guest, came up to me and hugged me and said she would trade me her teens for my sick child! :goodvibes She made me smile.

We got checked in and headed to our room. Figi, third floor facing the Wedding Pavilion. It was breathtaking! DH and I thought maybe the plane ride (her first), or maybe the OJ on the plane was the culprit, but no such luck. Our first night a long one! I will spare you the gorey details. Mousekeeping was quick at bringing us extra towels and helping clean up at 2 a.m.

The next morning, Sunday, a manager called to see if they could be of any help? I was impressed to say the least!! I explained that our carpet was in need of shampooing :sad1: and our bed linens needed to be changed. She was more than helpful and explained that when we felt "safe" to leave the room, they would get the room cleaned up like new! That is exactly what they did too! They also left us many towel animals! By Sunday night DD was better. I wanted to keep her away from people as much as possible so we did not pass along her bug to any other guests so we browsed the grounds, ate in our room and after 24 hours she was good as new. I cannot say enough nice things about the Poly staff after our first dreadful night but after that it was all good!

In summary...

The Poly- Beautiful! Relaxing! Not too big. We love to walk so we walked around a lot. The transportation options to MK and Epcot were excellent and swift. We barely waited for a boat or Monorail. If we did wait we enjoyed the views. The CM's were the best. We heard Aloha so much we were saying it all the time as well! The pool was great. Never too crowded early or late. The fireworks and EWP were priceless from our beach! I almost cried the first time we watched it was so magical pixiedust: We will go back!

Magical Express- A great option. I loved not having to touch my luggage after we initially checked it at at the airport. Just pack some necessary essentials in a carry on for the first 3 hours and you will be okay. The change of clothes were priceless in our case!

Mousekeeping- Excellent from the first day to the last. We asked for early cleaning and got it every day as well as towel animals!

Dining plan- Well worth it in our case! We were scrambling to use it up at the end! Still needs some fine tuning at the resorts as far as info, but at the parks the menue options were clearly marked. When in doubt, we asked! I was alittle annoyed that an Uncrustable was not a snack. At least, that is what I was told. DD likes those on the run. The reusable cups were the best from morning to night!

Crystal Palace Dinner- Food was decent but characters were great and made it well worth it! Our server was wonderful!

Cindy's Royal Table Breakfast and Storybook Princess Breakfast in Norway- Food was good at both. Service was great at both and the princesses were amazing! Should have only done one or the other, but it was our first time. Live and learn.

Kona Dinner- Excellent! From the appetizer to dessert with coffee. This place is a must do! Service was great too!

Chef Mickey's Dinner- This is also a must do! The ultimate Disney experience! The characters were awesome and the food was pretty tasty for a buffet. Again, great service.

O'Hana's Breakfast- We had to do it! Breakfast was pretty good. Service a little slow and characters take a long time but were priceless when they did arrive at our table! Especially that stinker Stitch!

1900 Park Faire Dinner- Food was excellent for a buffet! The best by far! The Step Mother and Step Sisters were priceless! They are worth going to see alone! DD dressed as Cinderella and they were trying to convince her to be their maid! It was great. This dinner I would do again! We were seated right away and again we got great service.

MNSSHP- Awesome! Even in the rain. From start to finish, this ws a great night. The chracters were out in full force. We even saw those crazy step sisters again. The ride lines were quick. The parade was incredible and the fireworks left me speechless! I loved the music too! To think we were not even going to do it until DH and I decidied the day prior! This is a MUST DO! :thumbsup2

Bibbity Bobbidi Boutique- A must do for all little girls. We did the hair and make up and brought a dress from the Disney store here at home. DD will never forget that whole experience! princess:

Complaints- None really. The weather was a little annoying at times, but not bad enough to alter any plans. We still had plenty of pool time! I wish there was a little more info on the dining plan available. But I can't say anything negative!

Also, photopass is GREAT! Use it as much as possible and then you can buy the CD and you own the pics! We had DD pics taken at the Photo place on Main Street and they are priceless! I will be able to use the pics for Christmas gifts and so forth! No need to get a family pic this year for the holiday card either!

To say the least, we are hooked on Disney. The minute we hit the ground in Chicago, DD asked when we are going back. I know my review is long but I had so much to share! We truly had the vacation of the lifetime. We waited for DD to be 6 and this was the perfect age for her to see Disney for the first time. She will remember it forever! We are now planning a 2008 holiday trip to the Poly.

Thanks for the great review. So glad you had a great time. Although it won't be our first time at WDW, we will be at the Poly for the first time in about 10 days. I love reading reviews like yours about great stays at the Poly. Glad to hear your daughter bonced back so quick. Hope you have many more wonderful stays at WDW in the future.:)

Loved your review! We will be arriving at the Poly on Nov. 2nd for our first stay there and can't wait. Just hope it's warm enough to swim when we are there.

Thank you for the great review! It sounds that the trip turned out to be very magical.:wizard:

tinker: We will be at the Poly Oct 26 and I am hoping our first trip with the kids will be just as wonderful.

What a wonderful TR!! Thanks so much!! So glad your DD was not sick long and could enjoy her vacation.

Chicago is my hometown, so was excited as soon as I read you arrived from Chicago :) We stayed at Poly our first visit (and many more) and I am convinced it adds some extra magic - like being a million miles away from everyday life.

You had a great location in Figi!! Did you have any room requests or was it Tink's dust? :)

A favorite park? Would you do the dining plan again? Seems like so much food that we have not tried it yet.

Welcome back and so happy you had such a wonderful first visit! Will be returning the Poly in for 4 ngts in Dec for the 1st time in 20 years - can hardly wait!!

:) I am so glad you had a nice time, and I am happy that your DD had a speedy recovery.!!

No. We did not have any specific room request except we wanted a 3rd floor room. Since I had never been there before I figured I would let the Tiki Gods decide!

The first few nights it was real nice and quiet near our longhouse location because there is no luau on Sun or Monday but Tuesday there was a significant difference in people on the path and the beach. Not a big deal to me because I like to people watch. The noise was not bad either. One night DH saw this toddler run by and a few seconds later we heard a Mom screaming. It was dark and I am sure she was scared to death with the water so close. DH yelled to her that he went that way and she found him. That was the only disturbance!

so glad to hear such a nice review. We'll be staying there in December and I am giddy with excitement!

Thanks for taking the time to tell us about your trip!

I, too, had a little one throw up all night (AllStars Resort). I tried to take him to Sea World the next day...HUGE mistake! We spent the ENTIRE day in the Infirmary. At least my hubby and friends had fun! OOHH...my son threw up ALL over people at the Shamu show! I only pray that others did not get sick from that. It was a truly irresponsible thing for me to do (take him when he wasn't feeling good).

Thanks for you're amazing review. I enjoyed reading it and it sounds like you and you're family had a wonderfull at the Polynesian. :thumbsup2

I don't know what dates you were there, but we may have been neighbors. We had third floor Fiji facing the cove too-wonderful. Miss it so much. The weather was lousy when we were there too. 9/28-10/2. Still at the Poly & still at Disney!!:goodvibes

Glad to hear most of your trip was great and that your dd is feeling better. Refreshing to read that Disney was on top of things for you at the resort. That was awesome. We love the Polynesian too, its our favorite resort.

What a great review. We will be there for our first time at the end of Nov. We are getting really excited!!!

Thanks for an awesome review! We will be staying at the Poly and it makes me feel great to hear about how well you and your daughter were cared for.:thumbsup2

Thanks for the wonderful and thorough review! :thumbsup2 So sorry to hear your DD got sick but I'm very impressed with how the CMs at the Poly (and that sympathetic guest) handled it.

We were there 9/29 - 10/5. It was fairly "quiet" around the resort up until Friday and then it was nuts! Yes Captain Cooks get's a little crowded at times but we learned very quickly how to time meals and the touch screen was actually really user friendly. Once we learned how to modify and so forth it was a breeze.

On morning's we did have breakfast at the resort , I actually went and got our food and brought it back to the room for us to eat so DD could take her time getting ready and just chill out a little in the morning and DH and I could enjoy our coffee and read our paper on the balcony. They have covers for the food trays and the CM's gave me a paper bag with a handle to carry back to the room. This really helped us not have to deal with the a.m. crowds for breakfast.

I did bring snacks and cereal cups from home and we did not touch any of it! I will never bring food and water again if I do the dining plan. It was a waste of money and suitcase space! You get plenty of food on the plan and if you get the resuable cups, just get a grab and go water or soda!

The Poly gift shops are excellent. We spent a lot of time browsing and shopping ;)

I honestly don't think in my exploration of the resort that there is a bad room location at the Poly. When we go back I won't make any room requests other than a third floor room again.

I'm so glad you had a great time - isn't it wonderful how kids bounce back from being sick. I'm glad she still got to enjoy Disney. We are leaving for the Poly on Saturday for a seven day stay. I can't wait.

Great trip report. Glad your DD soon felt better and Disney looked after you. Good to read your positives on the Poly, we will be staying there 28th Dec till 5th Jan :cool1:
