Disney FILES Magazine

I didn't mind the new magazine format, but I think the new name is really lacking in appeal. Anything with the word "FILES" in it sounds too much like work to me. If I am going to get a vacation magazine I want it to sound like one.

I liked the old name........

The jury's still out here - I haven't had time to read it all, just quickly perused it yesterday. One of my kids did comment though that he liked the name "Vacation Magic" way better, and the other kids quickly agreed. I have to say, I liked VM just fine as it was, so not sure why there was a need to change it - did they mention the "why" in the magazine? If it's only a change of name, that's okay I guess, but I do hope the focus remains DVC, not general Disney; as someone else pointed out - we can get general Disney info anywhere, and this is a magazine for DVC members so it should reflect that.

I finally read it last night, and I didn't think it was anymore blatant in its pedaling of the Disney product than the old VM was. In fact, I thought it was a bit better than the last form of VM, but not as good as the old one from a few years ago.

As for the bumper sticker....I threw it out! It looked cheap and unimaginative (From Disney????) and wasn't anything I wanted to even put in with my DVC "keeping" file, so it went in the round file instead!

If Disney felt they HAD to change the name...why didnt they poll DVC members for OUR input??? Just a thought....
There are polls here all the time:)

They have got to be kidding us with that bumper sticker. They actually had people work to come up with that thing?

I can only imagine how much it cost to mail that out to every member and how many members took one look at it and tossed it. Or never even noticed it in the envelope in the first place. What a great way to spend our dues. :sad2:

For someone like me who is eager for all the information I can get about GCV, and who plans to buy an add on ASAP, the new Magazine is just giving members news they really want.

I suppose for those who are not interested in any more add ons, it seems like our money is being used to sell new memberships and add ons.

Like so many things, it depends how you look at it. :confused3

the older magazine would give alot more details on GCV, Hawaii and AKV - which is still being build.

not just what a half page for each resort.

they would have before given you an architecture design of how the building would be - including the recreation areas. not the inside part -that comes later - but all the little stuff that use to make Disney resorts so much fun. Ex:
where the ideals came from and how it relates back to the resort they are building.

plus it would mention what they are doing with the older resorts. telling about which building they are working on at OKW. what floors on bcv, bwv - '

how the progress on AKV is going and when they expect to finish Jambo house. where they are on kidani.

little things like this I miss - made you feel you were part of Disney - not just any old guest.

Yea won't surprise me to find the Disney files in the WDW resort room - and we would be paying because it is advertising for DVC.

Pat, I agree that we are probably going to see Disney Files in the villas, but I would hope it wouldn't be dues paying for it, since it is advertising, and our dues don't go for that in the budget.

believe me you are paying for the marketing of DVC - it is generally in the basic price when you join.

the dues pay for the magazine - the extra copies to be used in the rooms is not a big price at all.

it is the putting together and publishing the first copy of the magazine which is so expensive -that we are definitely paying for with our dues.

I just read it and it didn't really appear to be any different then the Vacation Magic's I have read before.

I just wish it would have come out sooner because they state things that are going on for the holidays, DVC MVMCP discounts (which a couple have passed already).

As a "baby" DVCer, I didn't even realize I was missing something! (Obviously, no mag here yet :sad2: )

We got ours a couple of days ago. I like it--I don't see much difference between it and the old Vacation Magic. It's still much better than the little AP-holder magazine.

Yes, I agree with your assessment! I think you hit the nail on the head: "Vacation Magic" sounded, well, magical :wizard: ! Whereas "Files" does indeed sound like work.

I haven't read it yet, but I must say that I wasn't impressed by the look of the magazine - very cheap. Same goes for the bumper sticker.

I really liked the way they had restyled the member website, but this doesn't mesh with that at all!

Add me to the group who thinks this magazine is a real downgrade for DVC members. My favorite section of Vacation Magic was stories on the individual resorts and content that was specific to the DVC resorts. Boo and hiss on another blatant sales piece masquerading as member info.
