Disney Fantasy -- Mechanical Problems

But regardless, the engines are their responsibility, not mine. Payment for the cruise is my responsibility. The ship is their responsibility. If their ship has problems, the customer should not bear that cost- in any way. And I know about the contract.
Ever have a battery go dead with out warning? Headlight burnout? Ever take a vehicle to a mechanic for something other then an oil change?

Heck, my wife's Audi with 20K miles on it had the check engine light all of a sudden come on and started misfiring. Two weeks later she had a new engine in it. Car had all scheduled maintenance on it performed at the Audi dealer, so stuff can happen with no notice and all proper maintenance.

So if you're at the Magic Kingdom and Space Mountain, (or any attraction you happen to like), goes down all day do you ask for some sort of compensation?

I've had two daughters that used to be cast members at WDW and worked in Guest Relations. I can tell you that they have had angry guests demand that their park tickets for the day be refunded because some ride was broken that day, even though they spent the whole day in the park doing other attractions. One of those guests turned out to be someone I worked with and didn't realize that it was my daughter they were complaining to.

I have been vocal on this board about my feelings toward DCL lately, a combination of higher prices with declining perks plus feeling like the adult venues are same old same old. I was on this cruise, because we'd booked last year onboard with a DCL loving couple who are friends. We were of course disappointed at missing CC (my first time in 15 DCL cruises to miss it). We all felt that the information provided by the crew was adequate and that they went out of the way to try to make up for missing CC, via extra activities, free drinks Friday night, and pretzels Friday. So funny to us that we asked about the pretzels Thursday just to make sure it was true that they had been eliminated except for purchase at O'Gills. We were told no pretzels, but Friday they appeared for free at the pizza place by the pools. Mickey head plain and cheese stuffed oversized ones. And not the ones served at O'Gills. So they were on the ship the whole time it seems.
We felt the $200 per stateroom was very nice offer since there was totally no obligation on DCL's part as was the discount on another cruise, although we thought the 20% off was only a mediocre offer since fares have increased 10% over last years, so we basically be paying the same as last year if we rebooked onboard and have no onboard credit to boot. But again, totally no obligation on DCL's part, just a show of goodwill.
It turned out as we cruised north on Friday we entered a cold front and the day turned cloudy and cold and windy. It wouldn't have been a good day at CC if we had docked there.

On the plus side, service was much improved over our last two cruises, and officers more accessible.
The negative, the adult pool was not very adult only with the constant stream of children coming through the area. It's gotten worse over our last few cruises.
We were in an inside stateroom on deck 8 aft and the vibration and ratting in the room was horrible, from the start of the cruise to the end. Engineering came several times, but couldn't do much except state that rattling in the ceiling was due to work being done in the ventilation area above us. The noise from the ceiling was finally resolved but the constant rattling and vibration never ended.
I didn't mean to turn this into a review, but we felt that DCL went above and beyond to ease the situation with the mechanical failure.

There was a tug boat on hand to assist on our return to Port Canveral, we got up at 6am and went up on deck 13 forward to watch. It was not needed to dock. The crew on the bridge expertly glided the ship up to the pier.

That would be a port requirement. DCL didn't get a choice on that one. Most ports have a similar policy as a safety net just in case in certain situations and weather conditions.

Off topi, I know, but I have to say it having owned two Audis myself. You got notice that something would go wrong with the car when you signed the paperwork at the dealership and drove the car off the lot. With Audis it's a given that something will break. Always does. Our problems were electrical and various hardware issues. Loved the cars, but they didn't inspire a lot of confidence. :scared:

And during that time. You were given a vehicle to drive. So you weren't out anything. Just an FYI

She had to miss a job, spent 90 minutes waiting for a tow truck and had a lesser model car for that time.

Kids walking through the ADULT section!

THE HORROR OH THE HORROR!

If they had just been walking through it wouldn't have been an issue...
It IS an ADULT ONLY area regardless of whether *you* think it's okay to truck *your* kids through it because *you're* too lazy to take a different route that might require a few extra steps.
*you* is a general you, not referring to anyone specifically.
But that's the thing, more often than not they aren't just walking through and on top of that they are quiet about it either!!

So what would be required is going down one deck and then back up to the same deck! Just to avoid a 10 second walk through the Adult section!

but the point is *you* (general you) are taking kids into a section in which they DO NOT belong whether it is 10 seconds or 10 minutes. They do not belong in there at all period! But that's not what this thread is supposed to be about. Can we get back to the original topic please.

RCL may not have caused the weather but they knew they were sailing into hurricane force winds, those were forecasted on Friday.

The people on the Fantasy received what they paid for, a full cruise. By providing compensation for something they didn't need to, DCL did take the high road but I don't think you will ever admit that.

I am still not sure what you mean. I do not think I am wrong or I wouldn't have posted my opinion. I love Disney too, but I really think they missed the boat on this one. I think they nickel and d imed their customers. And they seem to be doing a lot of that lately. You do not have to agree with me. I respect that you have a different opinion. But I do completely disagree with you. I am telling you how I would feel walking off the ship: not great about Disney as a company. (As opposed to the RC example. I would be thinking what a great company).

Okay after researching and reading many reports, If I had just gotten off of that Royal Caribbean ship, I can PROMISE you I would NOT be thinking what a GREAT company!!! and I would NOT be sailing with them again!! They knew about this storm. It was not a surprise but they chose to move forward!! They truly put lives in jeopardy. The Coast Guard became aware of how severe the situation was aboard the ship, not because Royal notified them but they saw messages, postings, tweets, etc from concerned passengers on board the ship!!! Was the ship in danger of sinking? I'm am guessing, probably not. But again, this came down to the almighty dollar ! RC didn't want to be out the money if the could avoid it, so the chanced it. But they lost!! And the passengers on board paid big time!!! What they gave them IMO is not that great a compensation for what they went through. They HAD to give them their fare back...they didn't get their trip. Their bonus compensation was 50% of WHAT THEY PAID (for that cruise) towards a future one. Not that great in my book for what they put them through. No way would I ever bother with them again!!! That's not quality customer service.

Okay, now we are debating Adult areas, so I'm gonna go ahead and close this thread. Sorry to ruin the entertainment factor guys! :ssst:
