Disney Fantasy formal nights

Anyone who has been on a seven night cruise, Eastern Caribbean Fantasy, know which nights are the formal and semi formal nights

I seem to recall formal night being the 2nd night of the cruise. We chose to go to Palo that night since we were already dressed up anyway.

I was on the Fantasy a year ago. They list Formal night but sadly more people in cargo shorts than formals. Still the best pictures you can get. It was so casual I asked staff and checked the navigator.

Maybe it’s something about the longer cruises, but on our 9 night fantasy, there were lots of seriously dressed up people. We wore nice clothing, but I wouldn’t call it black tie, but I saw more than one of those.

I also find that the length of the cruise can make a difference. It wasn’t casual like that on the transatlantic either. But my 7night Fantasy was so casual. I also feel some ports attract a more casual clientele. For example, when I went out of New Orleans, so casual.

I would like a New York to New Orleans comparison from someone who has done both. Also anyone who can compare NOla to Europe sailings, I would like to hear about what they find for dress practices there in Europe compared to what they found in the US also.

It is not uncommon for luggage restrictions to limit what people are willing to pack for European cruises. I remember discussions about leaving blazers at home, let alone tuxes. In an effort to save on airfare, if you pick a European economy carrier, baggage allowance can be pricey.
Disney did have a men’s rental association once that they had on their list but that stopped back years before C-19. Maybe they still have that for Europe? Probably not.

My daughter and I bought used dresses and gave them to a church in Spain that was collecting clothing in our hotel for Ukrainians. Also gave a few other items we had washed on the ship that we planned to donate at home. Idea was more room for souvenirs. And if someone wanted to get married with something a little fancy before her guy went off to war, I hope this found her.

If you want a response about comparing NY to New Orleans you might need to ask that in a new discussion rather in the middle of this one.

That’s interesting as I did a 7 night Fantasy last June and a LOT of people were fancy. I was in a dress and sandals, nothing super fancy, and tbh I felt mostly underdressed.

We leave for an eastern soon and have done one before. Formal night is on first full sea day, semi formal night is on night 6. We have always done our own sort of thing around these nights. I love to dress for dinner every night, but since we fly in, I need to be practical and I hate to lug a bunch of luggage. Simple black dress with sparkly accessories always seems to be in the spirit of things, easy and small to pack. Everyone seems to do their own thing as well, which I think is just fine.

Just sailed a DCL Fantasy 7 night last month. Formal was on Sunday night and semi formal on Thursday. A Saturday to Saturday cruise.

How dressy are we talking? I'm trying to convince my husband to pack his tux but he doesn't want to deal with it and would rather do a sport coat.

I just got off of MSC a couple weeks ago, and felt underdressed there on a daily basis compared to Disney. The buffets were very basic and MDR’s were fine. Although I, missed that special restaurant theme flavors that Disney puts on them. MSC did not allow people to walk into the buffet ever with swimwear or even nice coverups and refused people frequently while I was in line for the buffet.

MSC dressed for dinner and the shows, like Disney had back 15 years ago when everyone dressed up or went to the buffet. But actually, now that I think of it, MSC wasn’t as formal as back in 2010 because there were several people in military formalwear even 3-4 guys in military kilts with lasers and metals even. I didn’t see one tuxedo, but back then there was a couple dozen. Back in 2010 I had half of my clothes with the tag still on them for my first Disney Cruise. Now I take my favorite perm stained clothes, put a lanyard over the top of the stain and throw them out at the end of the cruise. Leaving more room for souvenirs, and giving me the ability to have my favorite shirt and a picture before I sadly toss it out.

I’m thinking about putting out a thread for it. I just was thinking I could get away with one or two people in that big a big question out of it.

Here’s the thing tell him that you’re going to be getting family portraits because the photographers do a good job. Put them in the family Christmas card. They look amazing.
I asked the picture people to take full body shots so that you can zoom and crop out the border if you don’t want it there later. They’re using expensive cameras with nice looking backdrops you don’t get that at the JCPenney portrait studio for the price. Ask him if he wants to spend a Saturday getting pictures done around home instead of playing golf?

Sequins, tuxes, you name it, people wore it.
I have nothing but respect for people who still pack tuxedos on cruises (we used to be true formal on our cruises until we had kids and needed 2x the luggage)-- but we did this exact cruise last week on the Fantasy and I would say the median person was less dressy than suit and tie on formal night (lots of blazers) and I don't remember noticing any tuxedos... just want folks to be aware so they can use their own judgment about how upset their spouses will be if they are one of the less than 10% in tuxedos.

We have done formal nights bringing tux and gown but not for awhile. If you wear formal wear or not on a Disney cruise depends more on
1. Why- we have enough pictures stuffed in albums we never look at. So pictures aren't a reason.
2. Your own personality and self confidence. Personally it doesn't matter to me if the table beside us has a tux or shorts. But your personality may be different.
I would say many who wear a tux don't know how to do it properly. It's not properly tailored, they have the wrong shirt or collar or shoes or socks or tie or vest or belt orcolor etc. So if you are worried about being out of place...don't. Many who wear formal wear don't know what they are doing anyway and are actually more out of place than you would be wearing cruise casual. They just don't know it.
