Hi all!

We are BRAND NEW not just to DCL but to cruising at all. We've looking to book our first cruise on the Fantasy, Eastern Caribbean Mar 2016.

I have a Deck 10 stateroom on hold for 3 days, but am now wondering if we should opt for Deck 9 for less noise.

Any experiences with Deck 10 on the Fantasy that you all could share?

If I were you, I'd move to Deck 9. Being between cabin rooms definitely helps muffle noise. Being below the pool area/Cabanas, you will hear movement very early in the morning.

I was in a Deck 10 room in 2012. I didn't find it noisy but I'm used to a certain amount of noise.

I can't tell if you have a balcony room - but if you do, deck 11 sticks out further than deck 10 - giving you a bit of an overhang. Some people don't like it because they see it when looking out - I found that I appreciated the extra shade it provided on the balcony

We were in 10650 last summer. Loved it so much, we booked it again for this summer. Not too noisy at all, and being only 1 deck below cabanas and the pool was really convenient.

Thanks all for the input!!

10650... am I correct that from this side of the ship you get views of caraway cay when in port?

We were in 10600 on the Fantasy two years ago. We didn't care for the overhang on the balcony - interfered with pictures somewhat and we did notice the noise above us as well. The noise was mostly the scraping of chairs early in the morning. It woke us up a few times, but it wasn't all that bad. Given a choice, I would select deck 9 in the future, but if there wasn't a cabin available we would absolutely sail on deck 10 again. As others noted it's very convenient to Cabanas, pool area, etc.

How did you find the overhang out on the balcony?

So if you look through the gallery, you'll see the overhang. I'll be honest. It was the single-most worrisome thing for me before we got on (especially since we changed rooms from the extended verandah on 4A). You will not see fireworks on pirate night, but honestly, it was so peaceful in the shade and one other benefit was no one could look down on you. It was much more private than the other decks where the people above you could see when you were leaning on the balcony. The overhang became a non-issue for us really quick and being like 20 steps below the floor above where most of our time on the cruise was spent was so convenient.

So... looks like there is no availability on Deck 9, so IF we opt to move off Deck 10, looks like it would be Deck 8.

Is there any difference between category 4A and 4B, besides 4A being on Decks 9-10 and 4B being on Deck 8?? Looks like same stateroom layout, square footage, etc...?

Anyone out there done both Deck 8 and 10, and do you have a preference?

I cruised last June in stateroom 10604. Loved the room mid ship. I must say that the over head noise was noticeable although not too bothersome.. If you are looking for quiet I'd go to deck 9.

We've been on both decks 9 and 10 on the new ships. Have decided that we will henceforth go for deck 9 exactly for the reason of the noise from moving around the deck chairs early in the morning and late at night. Additionally, we didn't care for the large overhang shading the balcony.

I've stayed in 10118. I like the location and didn't notice any noise. I'd stay on 10 again without any worries.

OK, I'll probably be odd man out here, but we recently did a B2B on the Fantasy. First cruise on deck 10 (10612) and second leg on deck 9 (9098).

The room on deck 10 was located underneath the area that's the entrance to the Arrrcade & Cabanas on the starboard side. While, there were occasional running feet, we didn't experience the scraping chairs in the morning. The only noise "issue" was the Pirate party after the fireworks. We could hear (well, really "feel") the bass in the music, but it only lasted about 1/2 hour.

Now, on deck 9, we were more midship, port side. And had connecting rooms on both sides. That is, to one side there were 3 rooms that connected and on the other side 2 rooms that connected. And the kids in both those rooms took great pleasure in running laps around/through all their connecting rooms/balconies (not to mention jumping off the upper bed to the floor). And there was a large group (I'm hoping it was the same group, and not different ones) above us (on deck 10) who seemed to think the only way to approach their rooms was by running foot races in the passageway above us.

It was definitely much noisier (for us) on deck 9 than 10. But I think (hope?) that this was an aberration. I would think that a room on a deck with staterooms above and below is typically quieter than the one below the pool.

I've done the fantasy & dream room 10098. I did notice the moving of chairs from above, but I don't recall it lasting very long at all and it didn't wake me up, it happened once I was already up. I prefer being just a few stairs away from the beverage station and cabanas. For me that out weighed any noise on the fantasy, which is why I was good with the same room on the dream a year later.

10514 and 10512 were terrible if you like to sleep past 7 or 7:30. That's when people who don't know how to properly lift weights start dropping them on the floor, as well as start letting doors slam between rooms. Add to that the people who lumber on the treadmill in lead boots and it makes for very early mornings. Here's the review I posted:

The room was in perfect condition other than an iPod radio that never worked correctly, even when replaced. The only reason this was an issue is that music was the only thing that could drown out the incessant dropping of weights by people in the gym directly overhead who think dropping weights makes them more macho. I never slept past 7:15, and I’m not an early riser by any stretch of the imagination. The constant noise of doors slamming overhead and free weights being dropped from what sounded like overhead height, followed by vibrations that seemingly shook the ship to the keel, ensured that I would not actually be sleeping in bed on vacation other than the hours of 12-7, tops. This room, and others on the hallway (confirmed with several neighbors) turned into echo chambers once the gym opened up. Top it off with the rhythmic drone of a treadmill accompanied by what sounded like a 600 pound runner wearing lead jackboots and a 200 pound backpack and it’s a recipe for insomnia. The overhang can be annoying to some, but since I spontaneously combust in the sun it didn’t bother me. The only other issue with being on this deck might be if you like to wander around stark naked while in port, because the maintenance staff does constant laps by your window as they pressure wash the ship. The guy controlling the rolling work deck *can* see in your window, confirmed by us waving to him and him waving back. Very conveniently located. Close to the gym for those who get up at 6 am to drop weights in the spa and close to the adult areas for those who fancy a run up to the Cove for beers and the DOTD. I wouldn’t recommend this room to anybody unless they’re either dead, deaf, sleep so soundly that a lumber truck driving through a nitro glycerine factory wouldn’t wake them up or love to get up to work out before the sun comes up. Perhaps these rooms should be changed to a Cat 4ex. The ex appellation would be for “exercising". That way the people in these rooms wouldn’t have to worry about waking guests up, since they’d be the ones throwing bricks at the floor.

If you can get a room under Senses Spa I can tell you there is no noise, we have stayed in 10526 on the Fantasy and 10524 on the Dream. Here's a couple pictures on the Fantasy while we were leaving Jamaica.

I skipped the gym on the Fantasy, but I find it tough to believe that they actually have weights that someone would actually care to drop. Or you would think the staff would be concerned for safety of other guests. My last trip on the Magic they had dumbbells up to 100#,and that was about it for weights. Were people trying to do clean and jerks? snatch? I can certainly see someone involved with olympic lifting needing to bail, but without bumper plates, much less an oly bar what exactly are they lifting? Same with powerlifters and the deadlift, are they using the 100# dumbbells and dropping? Even then it's only 200#.

Could be the noise you heard were people slamming the medicine balls. :confused3
