Disney: Fact or Fiction?

Hi everyone! Please feel free to post your own fact or fiction stories about Disney as well, but I have a question I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is a myth or the truth? I don't want to spread fear and angst amongst the Dis community, but I'm really hoping that this is untrue. I can't remember where I heard this, but someone told me that a person riding Space Mountain put their arms up in the air (you know, like many people do when riding rollercoasters), and their arms were severed off by the scaffolding that holds up the tracks (because the coaster is built in such a compact space). I know this sounds ridiculous, but my DH always puts his arms up in the air on rollercoasters, and before we ride Space Mountain, I always whisper to him to keep his hands down. I feel so silly about it, but I'm too scared to try it now. Did this really happen, or can I let my DH ride Space Mountain with arms flying from now on? Thanks!! :flower3:

Fiction.

They seem very concerned about safety, I would think if this were true (though sounds like it isn't) there would be a warning before the ride to keep your hands down.

Total Fiction!

There is plenty of room. They tell you not to - and of course I always do - but build these things for safety - there is plenty of rooms to raise your hands.

That is total fiction. If that ever happened, the ride would have been shut down and probably revamped entirely. The seats wouldn't have been the same then as they are now.

Interesting topic, though. There are so many "urban legends" about Disney World and Disneyland. Walt's head frozen, his entire body frozen and stored in one of the castles.

What other ones are out there?

With the amount of people who like to put their hands up on roller coasters, I can't even imagine how this could be true. Could you imagine how many times a day they would have to shut down Space Mountain to clean up the blood and severed arms? The waits, both standby and fastpass, would be ridiculous! :lmao:

Here is one:

One of the last phrases Walt Disney wrote before his death was Kurt Russell, T or F?

I'll post the answer later if someone does not.

True! I believe there is also one area where you have to duck your head down a little bit too!:rotfl:

I did just watch 2 episodes of Disney Fact or Fiction on Comcast On-Demand. They were:
1. There is a basketball court in the Matterhorn and
2. There is a city of tunnels under WDW.

Sorry if these are lame - I didn't know the answers before I saw the show. I'll post the answers a little later.

One I have heard is that the word $-e-x (can I write that here?) is written in the clouds in one of the scenes of The Lion King.

According to Kurt Russel on an episode of Jimmy Kimmel this one is true. Is that the answer you were going to give?

Actually its not a full basketball court in the Matterhorn. Its more like 1/3 of a court witha hoop set up at one end..

On the Pirates of the Carribean ride in DL there is one real human skull in the scenes -- the rest are manufactured , the real one is in the headboard of a bed.

Oh my goodness, I do duck my head down the entire time, because I'm afraid of the scaffolding and that rumor I heard. Uggghhh, I know I'm completely stupid. (and I'm only 5 feet tall so it's especially ridiculous of me). Thank you for putting this completely silly fear to rest. What was especially stupid is that I even thought there was a remote chance that any of this could happen on Space Mountain, and I still went on it many times. I guess I must have known that it really could not be true.

To answer ses1230, I believe there is a city of tunnels under WDW, but I don't know about the other one.

And, I did see the word written in the clouds of the Lion King when it was first released on VHS. Really, I don't think you would notice it unless you freeze framed it or played it in very slow motion (of course, we were freshmen in college at that time, so we did). I think it was written in the stars/clouds.

Fact or Fiction: On the Haunted Mansion attraction the cast members routinely dig up the dirt on the grave of Master Gracey so that it appears fresh and place a red rose on it conspicuously.

Oh Oh Oh.. I have one.. I saw this on TV forever ago but have never found the mural.
In the Grand Floridian there is a mural that kind of looks like a 40's scene... In the mural there is a balcony and on the balcony is what is supposed to a Nazi soldier...

As for question 2, that's really false, depending on how the question is phrased. There is a tunnel system under MK, but not all of WDW.

And supposedly, the word is "SFX" in Lion King, the initials of a company who did some of the work on the movie, but I've seen that scene, and paused the t.v., and to me, it sure does look like $ex. JMHO, though. Other people see it differently.

Here, I've got one. The roof of Haunted Mansion is accented with giant chess pieces. All of the pieces are represented except the "knight" because it's night inside. True or false?
