Oh, so what you are really saying, is that yes, he is spending a lot on Parks and Resorts, but just not where you want him to spend it. You said in a previous post, that Iger is spending less on P&R than past CEO's... thats just not true. Also, in your post above, you correctly point out that Iger had to fix what Eisner screwed up, namely DCA. He's in the process of doing the same to Animal Kingdom as well. So not only is he spending/investing more in parks and resorts, he is doing it more effectively as well.
The Magic Kingdom is pretty tapped out in terms of space, so I doubt there is much added in the near future. The big thing there now is crowd control, getting people in, around, and out in a manageable manner; thus the Hub construction and the Main Street Bypass (in addition to MM+ and somewhat NFL as well). That's very important, even going towards guest satisfaction.

But you are fighting an uphill battle. Bring up all the facts you want regarding improvements, quality, happy customers, increased attendance, increased profits... yet Disney is lousy and everyone is going to realize it eventually. The facts won't do any good. For every single one there is a, "yeah, but..." or, "that one doesn't count."
It is an issue of perception. People are so invested and want things a certain way which they aren't getting, then they see everything as a negative and Disney as the enemy.
New Fantasy Land is fantastic! It has some amazing things and is perfect for the TARGET AUDIENCE. I know people that just returned from Disney that are regulars but not rabid fans. They loved new fantasy land and the family's new favorite ride? 7 Dwarves! Belle's adventure or whatever its called is great, the meet and greets are good, space is good, etc.
I don't see where any of us claimed otherwise...I know I didnt.
That's the bottom line. Disney is doing great and doing lots just not what you want, so you can't see anything good.
It sounds like MVK would defend Disney even if they sold a small bag of Dog crap for people to carry around the parks. The sad thing is I think they could pull that one off at the present moment if they did some creative marketing behind it.
The old Monkey See, Monkey dooooooooooooooooo syndrome.
The thing is the people will wake up and start to realize that Disney is not what it use to be and will eventually reject their nickel and dime polices. Its happened to every company that has become stagnant in the market place and Disney is no exception. History is on my side.
Jeepers creepers!!! Really? The proof is in the pudding. Millions of happy people, increased attendance, increased profits. But of course that doesn't matter. You're not happy so everyone else must be deluded. All those millions of people.
My gracious...it just doesn't penetrate...
Nobody is saying those things AREN'T being done...
What's being said is that they have sat on their cans for too long and those things don't bring them back up to speed.
You have to look at the aggregate...because they are being judged in the aggregate.
And magic kingdom was not a "large addition"...it essentially was a large repurposing with some addition.
This seems like flimsy CM issue propaganda...to be honest. Which always fails to realize that TWDC is a money grabbing, top heavy juggernaut...not "the maker of dreams"
I'm not trying to be difficult... Just trying to understand how you're justifying your praise. It makes for a better/more educational debate.
New Fantasy Land was a HUGE addition! Unless you don't want it to be, then it isn't.
Justify? Facts and what counts - money, increased attendance, happy customers - millions of them. But none of that matters.
Because my expectations aren't that OMG Everything has be be new every year! They need to add add add, and they need to do it now!
My expectations are a great family vacation that all members of my family can enjoy without breaking the bank. That is exactly what WDW provides me. My family of four has flown to Disney, stayed on-site for a week, and have had the Dining Plan in mid-August for less than $5,000.
They have done new stuff, they are continuing to do new stuff. I don't need everything to be different or new when we go. There are tons of things to do that we still haven't experienced even after going a few straight years. By next time we go (likely 2016 because we are in the midst of building a new house), there will be quite a few things there that are new. And we will still enjoy the great stuff that they have that isn't new.
It's easy for everyone to sit here and spend other peoples money. Fact is, Iger has a fiscal responsibility to the shareholders that invest in the company. That is his job, and he's doing it very very well, especially in the studio segment and in the parks/resort segment (which happens to consist of much more than just WDW).
But hey, everyone wants someone like Eisner because he built built built, not stopping to think about what he actually built - 2 halfday parks in Orlando that Iger has to fix (one started, the other in the future), a park in Anaheim that Iger had to fix, and a park in Paris that many believe is beyond fixing, but Iger is going to try. Hey, maybe controlled spending and not building willy nilly is a good thing. Be measured, be flexible (adjusting NFL plans for 7DMT, hard ticket events), and concentrate on keeping the company on solid ground.
I love Disney, and first and foremost I want them to be a healthy profitable company so they continue to exist and prosper. Right now I am very happy with the way things are moving. Everything is firing on all cylinders, all aspects of the business are doing well and big things are coming. Movies both live action and animated are going gangbusters - popular and profitable. Products are doing great. New acquisitions in SW, Marvel, etc. are really paying off. And big things are in the works in the Parks division Worldwide AND at WDW.
Are there things I would have liked to be different. Sure. But things are actually pretty good. No, darn great! Go Disney!
Of course, I am not a DVC owner and I only go every 2 years. Maybe that makes it easier to love Disney.
